Banana Chocolate Chip Bread
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookie
With four locations including one in the Hamptons it was rekindling forgotten love that a stop was made at Levain Bakey on Christmas Eve, the space at 351 Amsterdam Avenue showcasing many of the same delicious items last tasted in Harlem mid-2013 and adding a few additional inspirations as well.
Still sold as the “simple mission between two great friends to create the world’s greatest Chocolate Chip Cookie,” their version with Walnuts wowing crowds for nearly twenty-five years, it is actually not far from the original Levain Bakery (which still generates lines) that Constance McDonald and Pamela Weekes opened the Upper West Side store in 2017, a small seating area proving just perfect to sit and indulge in their famous 6oz rounds or other treats.
Having already tasted the original plus several other items across two visits, and willing to do so again, it was after lengthy debate that the decision was instead made to invest nearly $20 in mostly new things, the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip and Oatmeal Raisin both repeats with the former remaining an all-time favorite thanks to its crisp exterior and still-gooey middle featuring lots of Dark Chocolate riddled by sweetened Peanut Butter Morsels.
Certainly not a place to count calories, particularly around the holidays, it was bypassing Pizza which also looked tempting that two more sweets were added, a wedge of Banana Chocolate Chip Bread moist and dense with Fruit plus chunks of Valrhona that also formed the molten core of a yeasty Roll that is virtually guaranteed to make a mess as pieces are torn off and dipped Fondue or “Bread Bowl” style.
