Making my way from the Ferry Plaza Marketplace en route back to the hotel for a shower before the conference I quickly debated joining the surprisingly short line at Roli Roti but glancing towards the water I did a very \u2018guy-like\u2019 double-take at the sight of Three Babes\u2026Bakeshop. Another Mission-based business but lacking a true brick-and-mortar \u201cThree Babes\u201d is actually a kickstarter funded concept from two young women from central California and although prices may run as high as $40 for a single pie the team\u2019s artisan work has undeniably earned a cult following and substantial accolades \u2013 the combination finding them sold out of one option while I nabbed the last slice of Chocolate Pecan just after 8:30am. Verbose in words like all-natural, organic, and sustainable that are meaningful to many but no marker for \u2018taste\u2019 it was to the $12 toll of two slices that I partook in Anna and Lenore\u2019s baked goods and although the Chocolate Pecan was indeed delicious with flavors harkening a \u2018Turtle\u2019 candy it could not hold a candle to the signature Salty Honey Walnut \u2013 the buttery crust still flaky and crisp beneath an avalanche of toasty walnuts whose soft bitters found balance in local honey flecked with bits of sea salt \u2013 a truly remarkable pie tiptoeing the line between sweet and savory while wowing in every bite.<\/p>\n

AVOID: Arriving after noon when, I\u2019ve been told, more than half of the pies are often sold out.<\/p>\n

TIP: \u2026is it just me, or would a warm slice of the Salty Honey Walnut be perfect if made a la mode with a scoop of Harvey Milk and Honey Graham from Humphry Slocombe inside? Not really a tip\u2026or is it?<\/p>\n
