HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608570285702999602\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-NQNtUHsNWw8\/TdWk9ZkjbjI\/AAAAAAAAJK0\/HHNbx49zB8A\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25282%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">I don\u2019t fancy the word \u201cfoodie\u201d \u2013 it runs afoul with my sensibilities and makes me think of kids acting like everything offal is good, people lining up for food trucks, and all those folks who worship the Food Network and \u201ccelebrity chefs.\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2013 I love food and I care about its sourcing, preparation, and presentation but to me the experience is nearly as important as the product on the table\u2026it is what makes a meal worth going out for, and it was with these thoughts in mind and a couple of caveats that the first reservation I secured when planning our trip to Paris was at Guy Savoy.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-xPJDVBWIs94\/TdWk9MIBdZI\/AAAAAAAAJKs\/yUgduMmpRRs\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25281%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608570295845436082\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-eoAZRgmvmEQ\/TdWk9_WsurI\/AAAAAAAAJK8\/HWVF7eVnQK8\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25285%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">While some may say that Chef Savoy no longer produces \u2013 and perhaps never has produced \u2013 the best food in Paris there are very few who critique the \u201cexperience\u201d of his Rue Troyon flagship \u2013 as a matter of fact, of all the upper echelon spots in the city I\u2019d heard from a number of persons that it was perhaps the most fun and considering my previous visit to his Las Vegas location I had good reason to believe those rumors.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>For the sake of full disclosure I will note that I was not a stranger at the house of Savoy during this visit as I\u2019d met his son Franck during my dinner at Caesars Palace and had promised him I\u2019d be in contact should I ever return to Vegas or visit the Paris location \u2013 but with that said, I made my Parisian reservation on my own through the website for the 110EU lunch before ever touching base with Franck and every aspect of the process was smooth, professional, and faultless from the very start.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-5CpKt-CYlHI\/TdWk-WPA1uI\/AAAAAAAAJLM\/Lkr07LgMrjA\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25287%2529.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608570301987215074\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-5CpKt-CYlHI\/TdWk-WPA1uI\/AAAAAAAAJLM\/Lkr07LgMrjA\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25287%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">With the reservation confirmed and instructions to arrive by noon it was with little difficulty that we found the small restaurant on the Rue Troyon \u2013 its doors an identical match for those Stateside \u2013 and similar to my previous experience the spectacle of service began before we even reached the walked in the door as both doors opened wide and we were greeted by smiling faces, first a pair of young men and then by Maitre d\u2019 Hubert Schwermer who Franck had e-mailed to personally take care of us.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With greetings and pleasantries exchanged we were asked next if we should prefer the main dining room or one of the \u201csmaller, more private\u201d areas and electing for the later were led to a lovely two-top easily big enough for four complete with hefty linens, colorful plates, and the same colorful salt, pepper, and butter service I remembered fondly from Vegas.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-HuRcE3DEG-g\/TdWk-CA-33I\/AAAAAAAAJLE\/MPUm4tuFVb8\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25286%2529.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608570296559656818\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-HuRcE3DEG-g\/TdWk-CA-33I\/AAAAAAAAJLE\/MPUm4tuFVb8\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%25286%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">With no menu necessary as I\u2019d already arranged the meal through Franck and the reservations department our next contact of the afternoon was with the Sommelier \u2013 a friendly man who delivered the biblical tome on a pedestal and after some discussion provided my sister with a lovely 20EU glass of red that she still considers to be the best she has ever tasted.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With myself opting for only water we were left next to absorb the colorful space for a few moments before Chef Savoy himself would stop by to say hello at each table as our room filled to capacity \u2013 it would be the first of three times we would see Guy Savoy that afternoon and each time he was jovial, humble, and wearing a seemingly perpetual smile.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sbwPVK6iuhI\/TdWm4nXC2jI\/AAAAAAAAJL8\/LbipqRdPCeI\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252819%2529.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608572402528344626\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sbwPVK6iuhI\/TdWm4nXC2jI\/AAAAAAAAJL8\/LbipqRdPCeI\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252819%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN;font-family:arial;\" lang=\"EN\" >Already enjoying the pageantry of the dining room, service, and smiles our first bite of the meal would arrive from the hand of Hubert on a small metal toothpick just as it did in Vegas \u2013 a sandwich of foie gras terrine between buttered brioche toasts that even my sister, never a fan of liver, stated was good.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With one service of such a tasty thing certainly not enough the ritual would repeat twice, each time by a different waiter and since Erika was satisfied with one I ended up with five.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN;font-family:arial;\" lang=\"EN\" ><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-63RNuQiT4HU\/TdWlqO3eufI\/AAAAAAAAJLU\/En_Dt21Kt_E\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252810%2529.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608571055923706354\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-63RNuQiT4HU\/TdWlqO3eufI\/AAAAAAAAJLU\/En_Dt21Kt_E\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252810%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN;font-family:arial;\" lang=\"EN\" >While I\u2019d have been okay with an ongoing flow of foie gras sandwiches it was perhaps ten minutes later when our amuse proper of the meal would arrive \u2013 and again it would be just like my first Savoy experience \u2013 soup on one side and a hidden morsel on the other.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>Poured tableside with the fist half a savory veloute of Asparagus served over \u201clemon caviar\u201d I loved the manner in which the sour dotted the vegetal while the small morsel hidden beneath the cup was an earthy beetroot tart with horseradish \u2013 an intense bite opening the palate and sinuses both.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN;font-family:arial;\" lang=\"EN\" ><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-1EgpAXFTsTU\/TdWlq9eLPoI\/AAAAAAAAJLs\/R3MzRnX5z6s\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252817%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608571077436328674\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-QJhDb27EWvY\/TdWlrfAfSuI\/AAAAAAAAJL0\/0hgoYeT1Scs\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252818%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\" lang=\"EN\">With salted and unsalted butters on the table from the start our next visit would be from the bread cart \u2013 yes, that is right, CART.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"><\/span>With rounds and braids large and small and varieties including but not limited to <\/span>Buckwheat with speck, Nori brioche, Five Grain, Rye, Ciabatta, Buckwheat and Oat, Sourdough, and two types of Baguette I\u2019ll only say that I sampled quite a few throughout our three hour experience and although none matched that of Ledoyen or Pierre Gagnaire all were quit good and I particularly loved the coarse crumb of the two buckwheat selections.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-XjP83gqCGEY\/TdWlqtjKG9I\/AAAAAAAAJLk\/HamDDwC8n1g\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252814%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608575264719669826\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-kmsDaz2wo_Y\/TdWpfN2oikI\/AAAAAAAAJNM\/c-Kt4uGk15c\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252850%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">With coffee offered (again \u201con Franck\u2019s tab) but declined we were told it would be a few moments before our dessert was prepared \u201ca la minute\u201d and as such we were brought \u201csome treats\u201d including a strawberry atop lemon meringue with vanilla Chantilly, a Grape stuffed with Rice Putting, and a Floating Island Cube with Lime and Red Fruits \u2013 all tasty, light, and the grape particularly a very interesting textural experience.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4ApQqGKxJ2I\/TdWpfU8Kh-I\/AAAAAAAAJNU\/nvaB_2lb1Vw\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252852%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608575266621917154\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4ApQqGKxJ2I\/TdWpfU8Kh-I\/AAAAAAAAJNU\/nvaB_2lb1Vw\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252852%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">For our dessert proper I have to say I was slightly conflicted when selecting as I was not terribly impressed by either of the selections in <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Vegas<\/st1:city> and as such I decided to keep things simple \u2013 a choice that would pay off in the form of the best Mille-Feuille we had in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Paris<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>Again presented by Hubert who described the dish as Mille-Feuille \u201cminute\u201d with vanilla pod custard it was not only the vertical size texture of this pastry that impressed, but also the texture and flavor with puffy layers of pastry shattering on pressure and custard loaded with milky sweetness and potent notes of vanilla.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With bite after bite remaining a balance of crispy and creamy even with an extra dollop of custard added to each plate it was actually my sister who commented that she couldn\u2019t believe something so large and decadent could be so light.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Fjvib3kLij0\/TdWpf77e2VI\/AAAAAAAAJNc\/u8ITJ-Hm6nY\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252856%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608575280923162546\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-WcKe2WkpGzo\/TdWpgKN2N7I\/AAAAAAAAJNk\/cvewnHkSDE4\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252857%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">For our final \u201ccourse\u201d of the meal, just like in Vegas, we were visited by <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Savoy<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s famous carte of desserts \u2013 a veritable cornucopia of puddings, candies, cookies, and treats.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With each option first described by the sever our selections would start with Cr\u00e8me caramel, Banana Sorbet, Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Rice Pudding, and Rose Rice Pudding with a second round (for me, while Erika slipped into a food induced stupor) consisting of a Chocolate Macaron, Vanilla Marshmallow, Toffee Nougat, Peanut Marshmallow, Coffee Macaron, and slice of Chocolate Tart.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\"> <\/span>With each quite tasty, particularly the Rose Rice Pudding, the Vanilla Macaron, and the Toffee Nougat I will note that a third round was offered and although there were still more options to try I decided the better part of valor was to be able to walk out rather than be rolled.<a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-ufL6d1CojRw\/TdWpgaAiNoI\/AAAAAAAAJNs\/cgBqWEsKjmg\/s1600\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252859%2529.JPG\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608575766767037314\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-0pdqur625Sc\/TdWp8cIDa4I\/AAAAAAAAJN0\/F1dwFe2b2Eg\/s320\/052%2B-%2BGuy%2BSavoy%2B%252861%2529.JPG\" \/><\/noscript><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%;font-family:arial;\" >With the bill paid and a copy of the menu requested Hubert stopped by once again to make sure there was \u201cnothing else we desired\u201d and while I certainly should have liked to try pretty much everything on the menu I instead said \u201cno, everything was wonderful,\u201d and with that we were escorted to the door where upon emerging a small Scotty dog was seen wandering by with tongue lolling, a smile on his face and seemingly without a care in the world \u2013 a feeling entirely paralleling my own.
