Located within a small shopping complex, parking tucked away in back, Sugar Bakeshop figured into Sunday morning plans before meeting friends for brunch later, the cutesy d\u00e9cor and freshly baked goods offering plenty of impetus to stick around listening to Silversun Pickups while perusing E-mail via free WiFi.<\/p>\n

Owned and operated by a baking team that hardly seems old enough to drink, three young ladies working the register, boxing up items and mixing dough, respectively, it was with three parties already present that the cafe was entered and with guys from the local fire department sitting and enjoying breakfast burritos as others sipped a six-part order was constructed, a \u201csome for now, some for later\u201d plan eventually giving way to tasting everything in-house with only a few halves or quarters making way to the car.<\/p>\n

Not fooling for French or European, the goods offered clearly sourced straight from American Classics, tasting began with a lightly warmed Muffin seemingly made of at least 25% peanut butter with a substantial studding of chocolate chips, the lightly melting pockets of cocoa adding as much to the creamy texture as they did to the rich flavor.<\/p>\n

No less rich, and perhaps even moreso, bites taken of the red velvet brownie quickly followed the muffin and with cream cheese adding a tangy topnote the cupcake unfortunately took a far more bold approach by offering only a light drizzle of salty Caramel and crushed Pretzels, the dark ganache and moist cake perhaps better suited to those also enjoying a glass of milk…or at least a cup of coffee.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the tasting with three cookies, two fresh from the oven while the nutter-butter solved Devil’s Food’s conundrum of dryness by adding a creamy layer between two buttery biscuits, those looking for something truly decadent are encouraged to invest in the complex Monster Cookie while chocolate lovers may wish to consider the atypical \u201cBlack and White\u201d with a soft-set cocoa cookie besieged in mellow white chocolate chips.<\/p>\n
