Located within eyeshot of Rosticceria Gislon and considered by many to be one of Venice\u2019s best shops for Gelato Naturale, SuSo Gelato at Calle della Bissa 5453 takes a more \u2018American\u2019 look at the frozen concoction by way of flavors in-tune with the creative artisanal movement, a total of eighteen varieties set to rotate daily with no batch ever older than 24-hours as the location near Rialto Bridge assures a steady crowd.<\/p>\n

No doubt newer than the likes of Ca D\u2019Oro or Alaska, and using some modern machinery to generate flavors that creatively augment classics without straying too far or compromising texture in any way, a look at the line at SuSo should give potential patrons a good idea of just what they are getting themselves into, the tasting this time skipped given the never-ending push of traffic, a total of four scoops instead selected along with one of four styles of freshly baked Panettone.<\/p>\n

Sold at \u20ac1,60 per ball, larger orders discounted slightly and served in an edible bowl, first tastes of SuSo shows the product to be good yet somewhat inconsistent, the base creamy and smooth as relates to the Hazelnut-Chocolate topped in a layer of dense Pistachio Nougat while the natural flavors of Organic Pistachio saw the Cherry topping create some icy pockets, the bittersweet Fig and Walnut as well as Straciatella both well constructed, though failing to clear the high-bar set by other spots in town.<\/p>\n

Melting quickly and thus eaten partly as a blend of favors as creamy droplets tumbled toward the ground, it was later in line for Doge\u2019s Palace that the sweet Bread made for sharing was unwrapped and thoroughly investigated, a nut-speckled golden exterior quick to give way to a fluffy brioche interior densely populated with Kirsch marinated Cherries, a great deal of restraint proving necessary to avoid overindulging in the whole round.<\/p>\n
