Returning to Lima late Wednesday, dinner at Rafael cancelled by the Restaurant due to a facilities issue occurring during renovation, it was by way of Uber that a trip was made to Anticuchos de la Tia Grimanesa, the space affectionately known by locals as ATG rumored to be the best place in Peru for Anticuchos and ~$20USD total proving to be an incredible deal for four weighty skewers served with Sauce and Potatoes.<\/p>\n

Available across multiple venues, everyone from Maido to Street-carts selling plates of grilled Meat that pre-date the Columbian Era, it is said that Anticuchos arose from Andean culture as people sought ways to use less-desirable cuts of Meat, a lengthy marinade in Vinegar and spices turning Chicken Thighs and Gizzards into a delicacy while just as easily rendering Beef Heart into something as succulent as Tenderloin.<\/p>\n

Located at Ca. Ignacio Merino 466 and quick to form a line at 5pm, the narrow space virtually indistinguishable from surrounding businesses by day, guests visiting Anticuchos de la Tia Grimanesa are welcomed at a booth where a small menu hangs next to a cashier who exchanges payment for a ticket, the seating area inside divided into one central table plus thin slabs of slate attached to the wall.<\/p>\n

Without doubt a \u201cdo one thing, do it well\u201d sort of establishment, one cook in the kitchen rotating skewers over an open flame and occasionally adding Marinade, it was no more than ten minutes after sitting down amongst a packed house that two Styrofoam trays were delivered with Meat still sizzling, the Chicken penetrated so deeply with Herbs and Pepper that dark or light became irrelevant while the more popular Beef Heart was expectedly lean yet easy to cut with the edge of a fork and so well seasoned that it put Steaks served for $50+ back home to shame.<\/p>\n
