Impressed as I was by Golden Gate Bakery a visit to Eastern Bakery seemed like a good followup during lunch on the last day of the conference…unfortunately the combination of a soggy, luke warm Egg Custard, oily and meagerly filled sesame buns, and a clerk that ranks high in the running for least friendly of all time marred the one item that truly shined – a coffee crunch cake with four spongy yellow layers divided by light espresso tinged cream and a crunchy toffee topping that not only served as textural variance but also added a hint of needed sweetness without overwhelming the otherwise subtle nuances of the dish.
