Rebuilt in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and long neglected on previous trips to New York Almondine would be the first stop on an early morning pastry jaunt with a friend and although the location on Water Street would prove a bit tricky at first the goods that awaited at the end of the line were every bit worth the effort; a slightly flat and over-frangipane’d almond croissant the ‘lowlight’ (though still better than most in Manhattan) of the quartet while a warm madeline, beignet stuffed to bursting, and the fluffiest muffin I’ve experienced to date all proved exemplary.
