Located in MoMA PS1, the cafeteria-style restaurant by Hugue Dufour was a somewhat last minute decision for lunch and arriving to find the trendy spot packed everything from the no reservations policy to the uncomfortable seating to the downright rude service from everyone in the place, aside from a young man named Josh, could have turned out to be a total disaster…if only the food weren’t so damned good. Bold yet balanced, ‘grubby’ yet gourmand, and everything from appetizers to desserts served in a way that was unexpected yet somehow familiar (with plenty of fat and flavor to spare) this is about as close as New York gets to the Quebecoise decadence of APdC or Joe Beef and to those who fancy that style the cuisine justifies the inconveniences.
