Aware that Russell Stover has somehow become America’s “go-to” for holiday Chocolates, more discerning palates are unlikely to be impressed by a box of waxy Bonbons, and although Sees as well as Ethel M are both available across Sin City the Valley’s best Cocoa confections are coming in boxes of 20 to 40 from Chocolatebuzzz.

Owned by Denise and Levi Elrod, who met in a Chocolate shop years before moving to Las Vegas, it was while working in casino kitchens that the former decided to try her hand in the Chocolate industry, and although Chocolatebuzzz thus far lacks a storefront that should not stop anyone from chancing an order.

Cooking from a commercial kitchen, the past three years seeing business grow through farmer’s markets and word of mouth, it is from a collection of seasonal and signature flavors that customers are encouraged to choose, all fifteen current options just as delicious as they look.

Ingredient-focused, Cacao Barry or Valrhona forming the base of Bonbons, Truffles, Turtles and Bark, it is immediately after unboxing that the Elrod’s artistry is apparent, each bite through polished surfaces releasing balanced flavors ranging from tangy Passion Fruit to spicy Hot Chocolate.

Including single origin selections for purists, plus “Black Forest Cherry Jam Cake Ganache” that puts the average “Cordial” to shame, fans of Caramel will undoubtedly be taken by Chocolatebuzzz’s impeccably well-balanced “Pink Himalayan Salted Caramel,” though the holiday version spiked with Eggnog is also pretty great.

Not forgetting “Hazelnut Dream Cinnamon Ganache,” nor S’mores tilted towards Nutella, fans of Coffee should double-down on Dark Chocolate Cappuccino that starts bitter but dissipates sweet while Mint lovers will have a difficult time deciding whether “Dark Chocolate Candy Cane” or “Mint Forest Brownie” is best.

FIVE STARS: While this writer personally gravitate to Dark Chocolate and Single Origin tablets, Bonbons and Truffles certainly have their place, and with Chocolarebuzzz Denise and Levi Elrod have created some truly wonderful bites that taste even better than they look.

RECOMMENDED: Dark Chocolate 63% Illanka, Hazelnut Dream Cinnamon Ganache, Pink Himalayan Salted Caramel, Black Forest Cherry Jam Cake Ganache, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Cappuccino.

AVOID: Personal preference veers from Passion Fruit, but even it was very nicely balanced.

TIP: Seasonally available at the Downtown Summerlin Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 9am-2pm.

WHAT THE STARS MEAN: 5 World Class, 4 Excellent, 3 Good, 2 Fair, 1 Poor.
