Self-appointed “Home of the Texas-sized Grilled Sandwich,” Texas Meltz has inhabited Suite 6 of 4604 West Sahara Avenue since late 2018, a Saturday visit finding owner Larry and his team doing their best to safely serve guests quality Food at a fair price during the global pandemic.
Easy to miss in the sizable shopping complex also containing El Super, where bold signage leads to affable servers in masks, it was in two safety-sealed bags that eight items traveled ten minutes, everything remaining temperature and texture appropriate thanks to careful packaging and smart choices like keeping Chili, Chips and Fries separate for home assemblage.
Easily ordered off the Toast platform, all Sandwiches highly customizable from Bread to Accoutrements, it was with medium-spicy Chili that Lunch got started, a hint of Tomato brightening Beans and Beef atop crisp Fries or crispier Fritos before delving into Cornmeal crusted Catfish and juicy fried Ribs.
Moving onto Sandwiches, appropriately named after Texas towns and offered on Texas Toast or Hoagie Rolls, those seeking Las Vegas’ best Cheese Steak should strongly consider Texas Meltz’s “Midland,” the Jalapenos and smoky Mayo easily omitted for those craving “authenticity” instead of a pretty remarkable upgrade.
Both smoking and grilling on-site, a smell of wood lingering in the tiny shop’s air, Brisket proved appropriately fatty atop buttered Toast dubbed “Dallas” while The “Corpus Christi Burger” was a touch overdone beneath average Pastrami, thus leaving more capacity to enjoy a Turkey-filled “Plano” with added Bacon.
FOUR STARS: Well-priced and highly customizable, Texas Meltz is yet another entrant in Las Vegas’ sizable Sandwich market, ownership’s commitment to a theme and customer safety commendable while the menu offers plenty of room to explore across repeat visits.
RECOMMENDED: Deep Fried Baby Back Ribs, The Plano Sandwich, The Midland Sandwich, The Dallas Sandwich.
AVOID: Corpus Christi Burger.
TIP: Available through Grubhub and other apps, or directly through the Texas Meltz website.
