Monte Cristo – Ham, Smoked Turkey, Jack Cheese, French Toast Biscuit, Strawberry Preserves
Born in Plano, and now with six locations including a Deep Ellum shop opened in late-2019, The Biscuit Bar suggests “Everything is better on a Biscuit” and lives by those words…save for when Tater Tots are concerned.
Owned by Janie and Jake Burkett, initial success at Granite Park and across from SMU’s Campus built on good Biscuits and fair prices, it is in an area with limited parking that patrons will find varieties both sweet and savory amidst an industrial-chic space decorated in clever neon.
Part of an office building called “The Epic,” and easily walkable from nearby apartments, it was 8:15am when things were found quiet, a few cops stopping in and each diner greeted with pleasantries by the woman at the counter.
Offering a full bar with all the carbs, plus Coffee and Soft Drinks, Breakfast began with one plain Biscuit, the commercial packet of Smucker’s utterly disappointing for something scratch-made and rife with Buttermilk, especially at $3.
At this point uncertain if The Monte Cristo’s “Strawberry Preserves” were truly Preserves or more low-cost HFCS, but generally happy with the Custard-dipped and griddled Biscuit with Meat and Cheese, Desserts were skipped in favor of $7 Holiday Style Tots that reminisce of Thanksgiving in every way save the small portion.
