Family owned and operated Schmucker’s Restaurant has been a Toledo tradition since 1948, and although most go for the Homemade Pie the diner style Entrees are also delicious and plentiful at a fair price.
Originally opened by Harvey and Nola Schmucker, and currently run by their third generation, the homey Diner opens at 6:30am Monday through Saturday and remains busy continuously until nine o’clock at night.
Unchanged in the last two decades, a vintage register and yellow brick inside with signs advertising “Good Home Cooking,” guests choose from classics prepared by skilled line cooks including signatures such as the towering Club offered by itself or as a meal.
Scratch made for nearly 75 years, staff as friendly as ever, those seeking something hearty are tempted by springy Meatloaf or Fried Chicken over Biscuits – each overloaded with Gravy alongside choice of Potatoes.
Never forgetting Dessert, over twenty Pies changing with the season, Chocolate Peanut Butter was passed on this occasion in favor of Coconut Cream, Pecan and “Scutterbotch,” the best a toss up but all justifying the slogan “Its a family treat to eat at Schmucker’s!”
