Awaking early as ever for a morning run while my sister slept in Wednesday began at SoHo’s Delicatessen, a long and narrow space with an unfortunately limited breakfast menu despite what is posted on the website but whose owner was present, pleasant, and actually a downright delightful conversationalist as I sat working on my laptop. A friendly vibe but quiet in the morning as servers whose accents seem culled from Goodfellas circulated refilling coffee and water it would not be long before my lone plate of the morning arrived in the form of two thick slices of golden brioche French toast with pure maple syrup and although it was not the item for which I’d came the toast proved well done, a custard center beneath a crunchy façade and a veritable bargain at $9.
