If I walk in the door and you greet me with a smile plus samples of cakes, cookies, scones, and quiche there is little doubt I’m going to gush if the wares are good, and so was the case with Greenville Avenue’s Society Bakery. Cute without being ‘cutesy’ and small without being cramped it was to a wide variety of fresh baked samples and selections that I arrived and with an added bonus of espresso shots pulled to order my choices were made and a seat obtained while I waited for my drink, the evenly roasted dark brew over ice a necessary foil to the sweetness that would follow; each of four cupcakes and five samples delicate and moist with some even still warm from the open kitchen in back. Truly a Local business with a philanthropic model proudly displayed through contributions to many local and national societies it was with admitted indecision that I started the taste test of my four purchases but eventually deciding to start with the red velvet each cake that followed only got better, the carrot cake impressively spicy with cinnamon and nutmeg tamed by tangy cream cheese frosting while both filled options were pudding-dense beneath light buttercream; the signature Pecan Praline flavored exactly like its namesake candy and the banana pudding portable version of the southern classic right down to soft undertones harkening a nilla wafer.
