Although T-Mobile Arena and Park MGM have certainly rejuvenated the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard New York New York remains devoid of destination dining, but for those in the area a little discussed fact is that the 24/7 America Restaurant has been offering some of Sin City’s best Donuts since 2013.
Situated just off the gaming floor, and in close proximity to Self-Parking, it is at a distance that visitors will notice overhead signs in Red, White and Blue, the façade giving those who step inside an expectation of traditional American Diner staples though for those who crave fried Dough it is from counter-service to the right that the objects of their desire are available.
Featuring both Cake and Yeast plus Filled and Fancy options, the cost of seven for $12 and fifteen for $24 a veritable bargain in comparison to the likes of District for quality far better than Dunkin, it is after perusing approximately two-dozen styles that selections are carefully boxed, early arrival predictably offering the widest range, although staff reports stock is replaced fresh throughout the day as needed.
Enjoyed elsewhere, and also available with table service inside America, it was by way of a Long John topped a la Black & White Cookie that tasting began, a Brioche base fried golden and fluffy beneath Frosting that cracks to the tooth while the ubiquitous Maple Bacon Bar instead tends smoother with a good amount of crispy Pork to help offset topping that is more thinly applied than most but still quite sweet.
Further impressing with Cake, the small-ish round moist but not heavy beneath plenty of toasted Coconut, guests fond of simple Raised and Glazed will be happy to know America’s fares well without being greasy, a follow-up Cherry Pie Bismark unfortunately less enjoyable as a result of runny artificial Filling made even more cloying by a dusting of Powdered Sugar.
Back on track with Rocky Road, two types of Chocolate Chips plus chopped Nuts and Caramel served atop a hefty pocket full of Vanilla Pudding, it was much like last time that New York New York’s Croissant Donut stood out against the pack, an impressive degree of separation developed between laminated layers that offered a stark textural contrast to crumbled Butterfinger held in place by Chocolate Icing.
FOUR STARS: Judged on Donuts alone, the fairly-priced plates as tasted five years ago not yet deemed worth a repeat with so many other options within walking distance, guests in and around New York New York should strongly consider stepping inside for a snack when the mood strikes, both prices and quality far better than the average while the location is easily accessible whether accessing the property by foot or by car.
RECOMMENDED: Butterfinger Cronut, Rocky Road Bismark, Coconut Glazed Cake Donut, Glazed Yeast Donut.
AVOID: Cherry Pie Bismark.
