Part of the Roscioli family since 1972, Antico Forno Roscioli provides Bread and Pastries for not only the family’s world-famous Restaurant but also their Café and several independent Restaurants throughout Rome.

Found just steps from Campo de’ Fiori, nearby shopping assuring plenty of foot-traffic, it is immediately upon entry that eyes will struggle to focus on just one thing, a bounty of Loaves versus slices of Pizza and Cookies against Panini all from an antique oven.

A bit more highly priced than most of the Eternal City’s independent Bakeries, and frigid on this particular January morning thanks to doors propped open, it was after perusal that seven items were procured, Pizza sold by weight passed over for similarly topped Focaccia that ranged mediocre to decent while Roscioli’s room temperature Sfogliatella fell far short of the exemplary versions available in Naples.

Moving next to Cornetti, the Italian Croissant here full of thick Crema that helped disguise poorly laminated Dough, better bites were found in a Sugar-shellacked Turnover labeled “Fagottini” and the equally sweet Donut stuffed with thick Blueberry Compote.
