Although the original Salt’s Cure transported its Meat-heavy menu from West Hollywood to Hollywood over four years ago, the space at 7494 Santa Monica Boulevard has been back in business since May of 2017, Breakfast by Salt’s Cure offering a concise counter-service experience including both their Breakfast Sandwich and legendary Griddle Cakes.
One of those Restaurants originally made “famous” by a review, because little about either Salt’s Cure screams “look at me” save for honest-to-goodness Food in the #instagram era, it is even before entering the WeHo location that guests will notice tiles reading “Griddle Cakes Here,” and true to their word it is these that make up more than 50% of the menu.
Little more than brick, flat-top, chairs and tables, orders placed up front and paid for prior to sitting down with a number, it was as music played and a particularly loud “entrepreneur” held court that guests waited, a slow Sunday yielding three plates in ten minutes and first bites of Breakfast’s Breakfast Sandwich attesting to good Ingredients with an eye towards balance.
Refusing to offer Syrup, a point made by staff as well as website, Griddle Cakes come in five varieties including the “OG” that earned Salt’s Cure “Best Brunch” accolades from L.A. Weekly in 2013, and regardless of one’s particular preference for sweetness it would be difficult to fault a buttery crisp exterior and aromatic insides topped with melting Salted Butter regardless of what additional constituents are added to the Batter.
