Having recently discussed Johnny C’s Diner here it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for their first catering gig on Thursday, Sous Chef Sam Brooks and a colleague arriving exactly on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.
All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost most certainly justified by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from a mix of new and previously tasted Plates that lunch was constructed, several calling Johnny’s housemade Caesar the best they’d ever had while Chef’s Seasonal Market Salad also shines thanks to Greens from the garden, Harry’s Berries, Blue Cheese and Walnuts.
Again including two containers of housemade Pickles, delicious on their own and better atop “LJ3 Sliders” matching Beef griddled medium to Cheese and Special Sauce, those seeking Sin City’s best Fried Chicken Sandwich definitely need to compare Johnny C’s and Carson Kitchen side-by-side, though in this situation most employees were instead found giving the “Hen House” a thumbs up in comparison to Chick-fil-A or Popeye’s.
Smart to request Mel’s Mac N Cheese as a side, the Cheez-It Crust making quick-friends of two Medical Assistants who snack on the Crackers daily, Biscuits ‘N Gravy was a more gutsy decision, but thanks to buttery-soft rounds, Black Pepper and crumbled bits of Sausage these too disappeared quickly.
Not forgetting a few sweets, Chef Church’s family-recipe Orange Creamsicle Cake making a return from its short run at Artisanal Foods Café in 2016, suffice it to say that this is a must-order, though anyone familiar with classic Diners across America will know better than to leave without a slice of made-from-scratch Pie.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.
