Dutch Baby – Skillet Baked with Powdered Sugar and Lemon
Blueberry Almond Bread Pudding French Toast
Apparently a twenty year Orange County staple for breakfast, brunch, and lunch I’d be lying if I said I knew anything about the restaurant before it was recommended to me as a “great” breakfast spot by a young woman at Sidecar Doughnuts and Coffee, “the Dutch Baby is soooo good” sealing the deal along with a convenient location just down the street. A surprisingly large space tucked back in a small strip mall and thus actually a great place for al fresco dining I found the restaurant approximately a quarter full on arrival and after greetings from a smiling server my order was placed – one Dutch baby with a quoted 20 minute preparation time and three slices of dense, creamy bread pudding pan seared to toasty on the exterior and topped with fresh blueberries and almond crème anglaise a more than suitable warm-up that I was happy to slowly enjoy until the pancake arrived in all of its crisp, light, and golden excess – a perfect rendition of a dish far too seldom seen.
