Although Chocolateria 1902 has been serving a diverse menu across two floors for over 100 years the bulk of fourth generation owner Don Gabi’s business comes from Churros con Chocolate, and while San Ginés may be more “popular” with tourists most locals seem to prefer the store on Calle de San Martín.
Made fresh from open to close, a visible kitchen in the Sol neighborhood continuously churning out fried Dough throughout a thirty-minute visit, it was on a waiter’s suggestion that “dos Porras” were presented, their intrinsic flavor more complex than most even before dipping in a thick blend of three hot Cocoas while a “Flower” with Honey doubled down on texture across its layers.
