Embracing its ‘oddities’ as much as Portland embraces being ‘weird,’ Asheville really outdid itself when it came up with a dine-in Double Decker Bus that serves coffee, espresso, cappuccino, lattes, hot chocolate, teas, smoothies, shakes, desserts, and “free hugs” – the first being the only thing I sampled during my visit, but with beans from Counter Culture an excellent choice to enjoy with a few items from Karen Donatelli while people watching in downtown Asheville. With great service from competent baristas, free wi-fi, an eclectic clientele of folks hanging around both on the bus and on the patio, plus surprisingly comfortable seating and ‘chalkboard’ tables upstairs I’m really not sure how someone couldn’t love such a quirky concept.
