Debuted in 1999 with just two employees Berliner Kaffeerösterei is first and foremost a family company, their expansion in terms of storefronts and styles slow and calculated such that three generations are now involved in everything from sales to sourcing.
Focused on direct-trade Beans from responsible Farms, both Coffee and Cacao, entering the shop on Uhlandstrasse floods the eyes with one-hundred plus styles of each, everything from Truffles to Bark behind glass with a Café on the other side offering Cakes, Drinks and seating.
Drum-roasted on-site, an Americano on Ice smooth with light acidity, Cakes range contemporary to timeless with the “Original” Cheesecake creamy but a bit under sweetened while Kaffeerösterei’s Linzer Torte is properly glazed with Apricot with a bit of tooth above and below Raspberry Jelly.
Even more rustic with Apple Almond Cake, the Streusel melt-in-the-mouth thanks to an abundance of Butter, fans of Poppy Seeds will find no better Mohnkuchen in Berlin as this version eschews textural complexity in favor of Seeds ground so fine that they become one with the subtly sweet Batter.
