Replacing a former Mediterranean tenant inside Suite B1 of 3220 South Durango Drive just prior to the pandemic The Legends Oyster Bar and Grill has slowly earned a reputation for some of the best Seafood off-Strip, Chef Jack Jarukasem’s years overseeing Rio’s Buffet clearly showing in an ability to execute multiple dishes quick and efficiently without sacrificing quality.
A native of Thailand who started young, time in Grandma’s kitchen and life on a farm sparking an interest that would continue at his mother’s Restaurant in America by age 11, it was from food runner to master cook and finally Executive Chef that “Chef Jack” progressed through the ranks at Caesars Entertainment thanks to a strong work ethic and attention to technique.
Taking on raw and cooked Shellfish amidst casual environs, a homey interior channeling New England well-matched to Oysters freshly shucked, fried or baked beneath classic Rockefeller accouterments, suffice it to say one won’t find better Clam Chowder anywhere in Sin City and the Sherry-kissed Lobster Bisque available in porcelain or a Bread Bowl isn’t too shabby either.
Smart to offer Pan Roast, saving locals the long lines of Palace Station at lower cost, Jambalaya fares well with all the right ingredients while Beef Stroganoff is a delightful surprise that seems out of place but outperforms many thanks to tender Beef Tips, Roasted Mushrooms and Dill Cream Sauce.
Not forgetting Fries, golden-crisp adjacent fried Fish but much better beneath melted Cheese waiting to be dunked in Chowder, Garlic Mac n’ Cheese is a highly shareable side for just $9 while Desserts at $7 a piece see Chocolate Cake and Tiramisu outpace somewhat mushy Cheesecake.
FOUR STARS: Not necessarily a destination, but well priced considering Ingredients and portions, The Legends Oyster Bar and Grill executes well with good service and the sort of comfortable environs that will keep guests coming back.
RECOMMENDED: Oysters Rockefeller, New England Clam Chowder, Beef Stroganoff, Jambalaya, Chocolate Cake.
AVOID: The Fish half of Fish n Chips Chips was flavorless and greasy, Cheesecake was falling and mushy.
