Founded by Kugler Henrik in 1858 Gerbeaud is a historic Pastry shop in downtown Budapest, his partnership with Emil Gerbeaud forever changing the face of Hungarian Cukrászda and introducing the country to everything from Cat’s Tongue Cookies to the eponymous Cake.

A grand-Cafe in the truest sense, the Rococo-style ceiling dripping crystal chandeliers amidst wood and marble, it is from friendly servers that Pastries can be ordered and whether one selects Dobos or Esterhazy recipes are classic in taste as well as structure.

Rooted in tradition despite its place as a tourist-destination, English seemingly the primary language spoken by guests, Austro-Hungarian classics continue with decadent Sacher Torte and although the Somlói is on par with most no one should leave without tasting the signature Gerbeaud Szelet merging Walnut Sponge and Apricot Jam with Dark Chocolate.
