Admittedly a promiscuous diner, happy to dine solo or in small groups with friends both new and old, brunch at Superba Snack Bar would prove one of the rare circumstances where I was fortunate enough to b ring together a quartet of like palates for ample degustation of a diverse menu in a setting happy to play along with several strong opinions and good some good-natured heckling; the “experience” certainly outstripping the cuisine even though much of it was quite delicious. Italian in theme, to the point of offering a pasta tasting at dinner, but more laid back in the daylight where sandwiches, ‘snacks,’ and a few pastas mingle with brunch staples it was with an eye on diversity that orders were placed and requesting plates be coursed out at Chef’s discretion service was perfect, the meal beginning with a trio of breads that I personally enjoyed while others found dry but then finding firm footing with the three following acts as fatty bacon, supple octopus atop crispy potatoes, and perfectly prepared pastas all shined before culminating in a pillow-soft, banana pudding themed pancake that challenged even my threshold for sweetness. All in all a good meal made better by both my friends and the staff it seems as though I’ll need to head back to Venice soon as Gjelina, Tasting Kitchen, and Superba all deserve their chance to shine after sunset…maybe more than one in a single night if I can gather the right group.
