Last Friday Just Add Water Street Foodie Challenge
Rack of Lamb, Jumbo Prawns, Crispy Potatoes from Robert Lomeli
Carnevino Aged New York Strip, Jumbo Prawns, Seasonal Vegetables from Edward Tallman
Now in its 4th episode and recurring on the Last Friday of every month it was a great honor to be asked to Judge the “Foodie Challenge” at Last Friday: Just Add Water Street in Henderson on November 24th, the event itself beginning at 6pm and stretching several blocks in the plaza out front of Henderson Municipal Court with food, games, music, art and culture appropriate for both children and adults.
Arranged by Scott Commings of Freedom Beat and Antonio Nunez of Established Culinary Management with an assist from marketing guru Tyra Bell-Holland of Ava Rose Agency, the non-profit’s goal of “Resurrecting, Inspiring & Instigating Henderson’s emerging Arts, Culture, Music & Culinary scene” in full display throughout the night, guests visiting Last Friday will find ample Street Parking along with a valet option within 50 yards of the Food Challenge stage, the latter at a cost of just $7 but the event itself free for all, save for Food and Drink.
Offering a bevy of local vendors, everything from local Honey to handmade goods and autographed Football Jerseys up for sale with Santa even making an appearance for free photos this month, it was with drinks in hand and food from stands or trucks such as Waffle Love Vegas that guests listened to several styles of live music before gathering around a stage where Chefs Edward Tallman and Robert Lomeli competed for a giant Sausage using ingredients from local farms plus Turkey, Rack of Lamb, Prawns and New York Strip from Carnevino.
Beginning the cook-off at 6:45pm with judging commencing around 7:30, Lomeli winning by the slimmest of margins thanks to a beautiful dish that hopefully represents what he will bring to the plate when he lines up behind the stove at Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen in 2018, it was with swag including $10 Beanies and T-shirts plus comfortable long sleeve shirts and hoodies that many guests continued to mix and mingle after judging was over, many of them apparently already event regulars at an event which only promises to get bigger with time and the next planned to occur on December 29th.
