It was not long after Rosallie opened in August of 2015 that visit #1 took place, the former 7-Eleven at that time still an incomplete project but the Pastries so appealing that nearly a dozen were ordered before tasting, each bite to follow a significant upgrade on what had previously been available in Sin City and the store’s owner Jonathan Pluvinet an affable sort who genuinely seemed to care about the quality of both the product and guest experience.
Flash-forward now some thirty-months, at least four additional French Bakeries since opened West of Las Vegas Boulevard and South Rainbow quickly becoming one of The Valley’s most densely packed dining corridors, it was once again just minutes after opening that a visit was paid to Le French Café now featuring a hand-build Wine Vault and furniture by the young Frenchman, a to-go order for work marking the eighteenth time Rosallie would help brighten the day for self and others.
In reality best described as Rosallie Las Vegas at this point, location number two off to a great start in Winter Garden Florida, it was with pre-ordered items packed plus a few additional treats added that several still-warm boxes were walked to the car before a five minute drive and two trips up the stairwell, slices of Vegetarian Quiche holding up well inside plastic Clamshells with Crust as clean and buttery as ever beneath Goat Cheese infused Custard.
No doubt familiar with Rosallie’s collection after so many visits, a box of Butter Croissants and Pain au Chocolat going quickly amongst staff as they trickled in, it was over the course of the day that several old and new items were tasted, the Almond Croissant still unrivaled anywhere else in America as it completely eschews Frangipane in favor of house-ground Nuts while the Nutella-drizzled version is expectedly rich and equally delicious, particularly when still warm and partially melted.
Putting good people in charge of both the kitchen and front-of-house, Jonathan himself still splitting time between Nevada and Florida in addition to raising his family, it was next that an all-new Cake was tasted side-by-side with Rosallie’s delicious Coffee Opera slice, the Raspberry Bavarois proving an equally fine choice with a Crème Brûlée center atop the crunchy Hazelnut Croquant layer.
Unable to resist a slice of Jonathan’s Walnut Pie, perhaps the most significant of all Rosallie’s options as such a thing was never offered in Las Vegas prior, it was back to Raspberry that the tasting turned to finish, a glazed Linzer Pie sandwiching fresh Jam between its layers and the Raspberry Tart one of several Fruits currently available atop a base made of ground Nuts and Shortbread.
FIVE STARS: I’m not sure if it is a matter of how sad the national scene is today, or how great Rosallie Le French Café is, but on a recent trip to New England I didn’t even think to look for a traditional French Bakery, the simple fact that Jonathan’s little store on South Rainbow would be there when I got home all the assurance that was needed to focus appetite elsewhere.
