When Vincent Rotolo unveiled Good Pie on National Pizza Day 2018 locals lined up, the man from New York responsible for opening at least three other Pizzerias finally with a place of his own and a story to tell plus what is undeniably the best slice in DTLV.
Now celebrating six months in business and steadily gaining accolades along with popularity, both unprecedented for any prior occupant of Pawn Plaza, it was on Wednesday that a second delivery order was brought nearly fifteen miles to Spring Valley for lunch, a fellow dressed in Gold & Silver Pawn Shop swag arriving precisely on time and making three trips up the elevator and back down stairs seem effortless.
Already impressed by Rotolo’s work after three visits to the flagship in 725 South Las Vegas Boulevard’s back corner, the Pizzaiolo’s worry about transporting items so far and compromised quality unfounded both the first time and now, it was with all items unboxed and many guests starting with tender Meatballs that others delved into Pizza, Good Pie’s signature Good Good drawing admiration from two who’d never seen a Grandma Pie even before they took a crisp yet nicely leavened bite.
Still supporting Urban Seed for Salads, the “House” from Good Pie not your average Iceberg but far better with crisp Greens, Tomatoes and tangy Balsamic Vinaigrette, it was nearly six hours later that Garlic lingered in the air from Knots that juxtapose golden outsides against soft coils, though the “Good White” served as a thick and crispy Detroit Square no doubt contributed to the aroma while simultaneously brightening the smiles of those who had an opportunity to sink their teeth into fluffy pools of Ricotta atop housemade Garlic Oil.
Not particularly happy to share six slices of Chef Rotolo’s award-winning Gluten-Free Pie, the Cheese lattice and levity not just stunning when hot but also rewarmed twelve hours later in a toaster, those seeking more familiar shapes were treated to mixed Mushrooms and Caramelized Onions atop locally unmatched New York-style Slices while two Calzones also performed well with added Ham amidst five types of Cheese before all but one guest on a diet finished up by way of a soft-centered Chocolate Chip Cookie built from The Goodwich’s Batter.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone this is now the second time that Good Pie has been timely, crowd pleasing and not far from what can be found in store, all three a testament to Vincent’s skills and ideally the sort of thing he can continue to build upon as Good Pie’s name and reputation spreads.
RECOMMENDED: Detroit Style Good Time, The Good White Grandma Pie and Gluten Free Pies were all hits when catered while this visit was highlighted by the Knots and Upside Down Grandma Slice.
