From a James Beard Foundation award to numerous local accolades there may be no more famous Taco shop in America than that located at 2889 Mission Street, and en route to SFO the frenetic space added three more fans to its ever growing list.
Closed Monday and Tuesday, with long lines from open to close otherwise, La Taqueria has been a staple of The Mission since 1972 and remains so today for good reason.
Accepting cash only, and allowing a la carte customization while ordering in-line, it is like a well rehearsed ballet watching staff and diners interact, and although arrival during off-hours is recommended the queue moves quickly even during the lunch rush.
From tender Lengua to juicy roasted Chicken the attention to detail is visible while prices remain reasonable, though savvy guests will be wise to bring cash and make everything “Dorado-style” at no added cost.
