Having long told anyone listening that Pink Box Doughnuts has been Sin City’s premier purveyor of fried Dough ever since opening it was again on Saturday that Roberto Armanino’s original location on Lake Meade Boulevard did justice to such praise, several old favorites given a holiday makeover while one previously average choice was upgraded in addition to an all-new seasonal surprise.
Celebrating six years serving the 702 this month, each day seeing the staff try new things and only the retirement of “Date with a Nutty Pig” regrettable thus far, it was by friendly staff that a two boxes were filled around noon, first bites of a smiling face yielding airy Vanilla Cream while a follow-up topped in similar was packed with creamy Pumpkin Cheesecake made better than at Halloween thanks to more sweetness and Baking Spices.
Sticking to lighter choices by way of Caramel Cheesecake, a glazed Cro-Dough and beautifully decorated Rings and Bars, the latter best ordered in advance if a specific design is desired, it was prior to delving into Cocoa that Buttermilk Bars were next devoured, first a plain one with Glaze added at just the right temperate to partially penetrate and then the version which doubles down on texture with Cinnamon Crumble.
Finishing strong with Chocolate, the Pink Velvet Unicorn made a Reindeer by going blackface and trading one horn for two, suffice it to say that Chocolate Mousse, Marshmallows and Peppermint garnishes serve Pink Box’s Coco Cake well as “Hot Chocolate,” though the Poomoji topped with ornamental M&Ms is still richer, denser and unparalleled in terms of generating a smile.
