Although new and “exciting” sell, Carson Kitchen has never needed to rely on gimmicks, thus with two weeks to go in the Restaurant’s current 5th anniversary celebration it seemed only right to take one last look at the past while anticipating upcoming expansion and an all new seasonal menu.
Nothing less than iconic entering its sixth year, a milestone reached by less than 20% of Restaurants nationwide (and likely far less in Sin City,) it was sort of last minute that six guests stopped in at 6:30pm, greetings at the hostess podium yielding unclaimed seats near room’s center where a young lady in her vintage rock t-shirt offered excellent customer service throughout a two-hour feast.
Dining with family and friends, including one first-timer, it was after selecting Beverages that a list of favorites were checked-off from Social Plates to Farm & Garden, Cory Harwell’s infamous Chicken Skins starting things off after their Honey bath, but before moving on to fried Green Beans that are as addictive as they are delicious.
Next up, Bacon Jam, everything but a small bit fixed to cast iron gone in a five minutes, it was having rediscovered Oxtail Risotto in August that the dish again shined thanks to Rice with a bit of tooth mixed with Cream, the Mac & Cheese with “Shhh It’s a Secret” ingredients this day’s re-emergent star and undoubtedly one of the best in Sin City.
Continuing with some Vegetarian-friendly fare, Carson Kitchen’s menu always featuring one such Flatbread and currently recognizing Mushrooms with Bleu Cheese plus Caramelized Onions as an all-time great, fans of last year’s Broccoli Crunch should stop in soon for one last look at the Crucifer dressed in Green Goddess while omnivorous guests should not risk FOMO as relates to Chef Harwell’s Wild Boar Sloppy Joe.
Continuing “Between Bread” with the Secret Sunday Chicken recently featured on bestofvegas, an upgrade on Chick-fil-a that is available seven days a week, it was after several handfuls of Tots that Dessert was served, Peach Cake with Mascarpone soon to be retired once again while Donut Bread Pudding bathed in Rum and Bourbon Brownies with housemade Brown Butter Bacon Ice Cream will continue to wow DTLV for the foreseeable future.
FIVE STARS: Poised for expansion five years after making downtown Las Vegas a dining destination, Carson Kitchen’s Summer menu takes a look back at some of Kerry, Cory as well as Matthew’s greatest recipes and brings back fond memories for many while re-introducing the ideas that got them there to others.
