Situated near Sun City Summerlin since 2008, and now with locations in Henderson and the Southwest, New York Chinese Restaurant is highly regarded for their East coast take on familiar take-out dishes, a lunch shared by six on Saturday finding ample portions and fair prices served by a friendly staff.
Owned by Daniel Lin, with family recipes from Uncle Lin Song’s two Big Apple eateries comprising much of the menu, guests visiting New York Chinese will currently find the Restaurant take-out only, though nearly 200 items including Lunch and Dinner specials are still available 10:30am until 10:00pm daily.
Tweaked for the American palate, a lack of MSG proudly promoted alongside fresh Ingredients, meals for most at New York Chinese will in some way include Rice, Soup and Crab Rangoon by way of a Combo, the former particularly noteworthy when fried with Pork while the “Egg Flower” Soup is velvety and thick without being too salty.
A family affair from the start, everything ordered online ready for contact-free handoff on arrival, Vegetable Potstickers are another favorite whether steamed or fried, though Egg Foo Young also ordered without Meat were thin without a lot of intrinsic flavor, and thus overly reliant on the thin Brown Gravy.
Known as one of Las Vegas’ best spots for thick Egg Rolls, Pork with Cabbage and Carrots fried golden with “Duck Sauce” on the side, Lin strongly suggests guests seeking “authenticity” try Mongolian-style plates including Beef with a bold spice profile, though folks from New York or New England may instead find “New York Chow Mein” eaten over crispy Noodles more akin to the Chinese Cuisine of their memories.
Also offering Food Court favorites like Cashew Chicken and General Tso’s, each a little too sweet but nonetheless enjoyable, Lo Mein finds slick Noodles with plenty of Sprouts and Meat of choice while Lin’s Chop Suey delivers the complex Sauce atop Broccoli, tender Mushrooms, Snap Peas and Onions.
