Still lighting up the Arts District, and now adding an outpost inside The Stratosphere with Tivoli Village soon to follow, it was on a promise that James Trees agreed to cater from Esther’s Kitchen on Wednesday, Sous-Chef Ashley Nichole Winkelman tasked with the fourteen mile drive and making good time with a variety of choices from lunch menu.
To the best of anyone’s knowledge the Restaurant’s first off-site gig, though much like everything at Esther’s a product of passion and planning, it was on arrival that Chef Winkelman received assistance ascending three stories with boxes and trays, a bit of post-transport assembly yielding two Salads that were dressed just as they are at 1130 South Casino Center Boulevard, the Caesar in particular well-received by a group that usually turns their nose up at “healthy” thanks to Chili Oil that played well off Cheese and mild Dressing.
Turning next to Charcuterie, a full array of Esther’s Meats and Cheeses served on a platter, the only thing missing was Dylan Jobsz’s housemade Sourdough, though that was on full display in toasted format as part of a Vegetarian Mushroom Panini made gooey with two types of Cheese but kept from being too rich by way of Herbs and Citrus.
Finding the Sandwich versatile in sopping up Tomato Sauce, a vibrant Sugo served along with thick Meatballs featuring a fine grind and lots of flavor, those hoping for Pasta would not be let down by housemade Radiatorre that arrived still-hot and texturally beautiful thanks to Bread Crumbs and Cream Sauce, though two styles of Pizza traveled less-well in cardboard boxes – losing some of their visual appeal but at the same time still tempting enough that only three small slices (out of sixty) were left at day’s end.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it is with big thanks to Ashley, James and the team that they agreed to try something different on Wednesday, the idea to #supportlocal always intended to support businesses like Esther’s Kitchen just as they have helped build and support the big changes happening in the Arts District.
RECOMMENDED: Radiatorre, Caesar Salad, Mushroom Panini, Meat + Cheese, Polpette.
AVOID: Like any Pie of its kind the fluffy Sourdough Crust loses something the minute it enters a box.
TIP: Despite what the Website says 28 days later, Brunch is offered 10a-3p on Saturday and Sunday while lunch takes place from 11am until…who knows? The Website still says they open at 5:00pm
