While many Las Vegas Restaurants pivoted to take-out during the earliest stages of Covid-19 Carson Kitchen felt a temporary closure was prudent, but with Phase Two of Nevada’s re-opening now ongoing Kerry Simon and Cory Harwell’s idea that helped resurrect Downtown is back doing what it does best.
Recently celebrating six years serving Sin City, and doing so with ample safety features plus a customer-friendly Take Out program, it was just prior to Carson Kitchen’s noon opening that GM Matthew Harwell was found masked but cheerful, eight items ordered from the website ready to go in carefully sealed “contact free” packages.
Reprising much of last year’s anniversary menu for now, a need for clever new items diminished when most guests currently seek little more than a semblance of “normalcy,” lunch was comprised entirely of items felt best-suited for travel, Cory’s infamous Chicken Skins starting things off after their Honey bath before proceeding to the Brussels Sprouts Caesar that somehow manages to make Kale desirable.
Next up, Bacon Jam, every bite gone within ten minutes of a quick microwave re-heat, it was having rediscovered Oxtail Risotto last August that the dish again shined thanks to Rice with a bit of tooth mixed with Cream, the Mac & Cheese with “Shhh It’s a Secret” ingredients also rekindling memories of more predictable times that now feel distant.
Continuing with some Vegetarian-friendly fare, Carson Kitchen’s menu always featuring one such Flatbread and currently recognizing Mushrooms with Bleu Cheese plus Caramelized Onions as an all-time great, fans of last year’s Broccoli Crunch should stop in soon for one last look at the Crucifer dressed in Green Goddess while omnivorous guests should never forgo a chance to indulge in Veal Meatballs topped in Foie Gras Cream fortified with Sherry.
FIVE STARS: Poised for a celebratory year with expansion to Atlanta and Salt Lake City, SARS-CoV-2 had different plans for Cory, Matthew, Scott and Co., yet immediately upon reopening Carson Kitchen reminds guests of better times with Food, service and “spirit” that crosses cultures and helps to define a city unlike any other.
