Inspired by the “poetry of the city,” Chiado Caffe is a nondescript shop on Rua do Loreto, its proximity to city-center yielding plentiful foot traffic including mostly locals who stop in early for Coffee and Pastry.
Proudly proclaiming on-site production of approximately two-dozen items, mostly the same as those seen elsewhere, abrupt service appears to be the standard regardless of spoken language while indoor seating is narrow but benefited by free Wi-Fi.
Again starting and ending with Pastel de Nata, cool to touch despite arriving five minutes after opening, Chiado Caffe’s version is neither bad nor memorable, though the bready “Almond Croissant” is an abomination stuffed with store-bought Frangipane while the Almond Tart fares better thanks to candied and slivered Nuts.
