A favorite since the day it replaced Sugar Factory at Paris Hotel & Casino it was alongside two locals and one guest from Northern California that seats were taken at HEXX Kitchen + Bar, a 3:30pm arrival allowing diners to partake in a few Brunch favorites before switching over to new plates from Alexxa’s Bar plus eight new Desserts.
Now two distinct entities for thirteen months, though not entirely as the former Candy Shop offers HEXX Brunch until 4:00pm when Alexxa’s small plates and Tapas take center stage, it was from familiar staff with great attitudes that the meal began with Cocktails, South of the Border an expected choice for someone who craves Salt and fire while HEXX Fusion is sure to please those with a sweet tooth thanks to Pineapple and Almond in harmony with Rum.
Moving next to Brunch items, the kitchen’s transition to Dinner seamless in the eyes of guests treated to a colorful Fruit plate offering ten varieties alongside airy Cream and bite-size Muffins, it was by request that a new Granola Parfait was also served with Oats, Almonds and Berries plus Honey on the side, a nice option for those seeking something light and customizable, though if not stirred adequately there is a potential for residual dry Oats at the bottom.
Never passing on Carrot Cake Pancakes, the stack of four remaining one of Sin City’s best and a true bargain on The Strip for just $13, it was with every fluffy bite gone that a second course arrived, Alexxa’s superb Chicken Sausage Flatbread unfortunately replaced by a Pizza with less impressive Crust but otherwise similar flavors.
Investing next in some of Alexxa’s new “large plates,” prices ranging $16-$22 but all big enough to share, those looking for a bit of spice will find their fix in crispy Fries capped by Pulled Pork plus Chili Aioli as well as boneless Korean BBQ atop Fried Rice, the more timid probably better off ordering a shallow dish of thick Clam Chowder served alongside Parker House-style Sourdough with a bit of Soup ladled in the middle creating a hybrid pull-apart-Monkey Bread-Bowl.
Minding capacity with a lot of Sugar en route, Chef Miranda Prince’s Instagram feed recently flooded with activity, it was with Coffee in hand that round one of three arrived, a Trio of Cheesecakes from Alexxa’s menu highlighted by Dark Chocolate with a dollop of Ganache while the Lemon Raspberry Naked Cake threatened to topple but never did thanks to soft Lemon Buttercream and rings of Raspberries…plus an onslaught of spoons digging into the airy sponge before gravity ever had a chance.
Onward to the HEXX half, three featuring Fruit and the other trio all offering HEXX Chocolate, those seeking something light should immediately place an order for Chef Miranda’s satiny Panna Cotta bolstered by Buttermilk and Ginger amidst textural elements, the Apple Spice Cake similarly focused on seasonal aromatics over sweetness and not only complex and delicious, but very attractively plated considering the price point.
Flashing forward to summer by way of Cobbler, the Blondie-base served warm beneath slowly-melting Ice Cream, Blueberries and crunchy Kernels, a decision between which Cocoa creations largely comes down to personal preference, Cookies n’ Cream certainly sweetest and very similar to the Cookie it contains while the Brownie is thick like Fudge in contrast to the Pecan Pie which varies from sweet to lightly bitter and even sometimes boozy from bite to bite.
N/A: Hard to “rate” as a whole since items from both HEXX and Alexxa’s Bar were ordered the troublesome delineation between two spaces under one roof again becomes apparent, though considering the same Chefs are responsible for both halves everything tasted sets a high standard for casual dining on-Strip, just as it has from the beginning.
RECOMMENDED: Carrot Cake Pancakes, Bahn Mi Loaded Fries, Clam Chowder, Lemon Raspberry Naked Cake, Apple Spice Cake, Blueberry Corn Cobbler, Ginger Pear Panna Cotta.
AVOID: The Chicken Flatbread was far better than its reinvention as a Pizza, and that is 100% thanks to the base as topping are still delicious while the center is now flaccid and Crust flavorless.
TIP: Alexxa’s Bar Food Menu starts at 4pm daily, as does HEXX’s transition from Brunch to Dinner.
