L’Éclair
Caramelo Salgado – Caramel Cream, Salted Butter, Fleur de Sel, Caramel Frosting, Golden Feulletine
Café – Coffee Pastry Cream, Coffee Glaze, Coffee Beans
Paris Brest – Caramelized Almonds, Hazelnuts, Whipped Cream, Granulated Almonds
Opened by Matthieu Croiger and João Henriques in 2014 L’Éclair sees the duo bring skills honed in Paris back to Portugal with some mighty fine Pate de Choux.
Started on Avenida Duque de Ávila, but now with a kiosk at Time Out Market inside Mercado da Ribeira, guests visiting the original will find selections both sweet and savory plus exquisite customer service and an outdoor patio for those who wish to dine on-site.
Adding a few Viennoiseries and Macarons to the dozen rotating Éclairs, Caramelo Salgado suggested as a best-seller, Choux breaks quick to airy Cream punctuated by flakes of Salt beneath golden Frosting while Café is predictably bittersweet with texture dialed up by crushed Coffee Beans.
Uncompromised by a midday visit, though the original storefront opens at 09h00, L’Éclair’s “Paris Brest” comes in an elongated form rather than the traditional tire, but between the traditional Filling and St. Honore-like Choux plus Cream on top it is still quite delicious.
