Established as a brick and mortar Restaurant in 2017, Hunger Street Tacos quickly emerged as a reason for folks across Central Florida to visit Winter Park, and even amidst a global pandemic Joseph Creech and his team continue to tantalize guests with the bold flavors of Mexico while implementing all recommended safe practices.
Born in Guadalajara to missionary parents, but raised stateside and self-trained, it is from indigenous Ingredients that Creech seeks to recreate flavors from early memories, the Street Food favorite “Suadero” featured prominently and exquisitely tender whether on its own or combined on the same Heirloom Corn Tortilla with Housemade Chorizo.
A tribute to CDMX’s “La Calle Del Hambre,” though many of Hunger Street’s items would rarely be seen in Mexico, Vegetarians will find several things to suit their preferences, both Fried Avocados and vigorously Sauteed Mushrooms achieving bold balance amidst Cheese, fresh Vegetables and vibrant Salsa.
Relying on wife Seydi’s family recipes for several condiments and techniques, while incorporating murals by the Lapiztola art collective inside and out, the staff’s commitment to quality extends from kitchen to front of house, a middle-aged woman on this particular night making rounds on the outside patio to big smiles induced by a texturally flawless Tamale topped in shredded Chicken plus aromatic Mole indistinguishable from what one might find in Mexico City or Oaxaca.
