Locale Caesar – Caesar Dressing, Romaine Lettuce, Parmesan Cheese, Ciabatta Croutons

Watermelon Salad – Mint, Orange, Citrus Vinaigrette

Shrimp Rigatoni – Shrimp, Bianco Tomato Sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano

Cacio e Pepe Gnocchi – Black Pepper, Pecorino Romano

Roasted Heirloom Carrots – Brown Butter, Honey, Sage, Pistachios

Polenta – Fontina Cheese, Cracked Black Pepper, Olive Oil

6oz Dry-Aged Angus Beef Burger – Housemade Sesame Bun, House Pickles, Gem Lettuce, Pickled Peppers, House Burger Sauce

With Graffiti Bao’s Marc Marrone now leading Locale Italian Kitchen for over a month, two #supportlocal lunches far outpacing that which was received in April, July 4th provided a great opportunity to celebrate at home with family, Burgers, Salad and Pasta.

Still a shock to some, James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef Southwest Nicole Brisson departing the Restaurant she helped build less than ten months in, it was via communication with owner Andy Hooper and General Manager Paulo Duran that lunch was coordinated, a total of seven items in portions more than suitable for sharing.

Making good use of the holiday weekend, a special “Grill Kit” including take-and-make Burgers supplementing Locale’s Phase Two menu, it was with great care that Patties of Dry-Aged Beef were kissed by fire, the fine grind sporting big flavors nicely paired to housemade Buns, Vegetables, Sauce and Pickles.

A mix of regional Italian plates and Chef Marrone’s family recipes, nearly a decade at Tao/Lavo further contributing finesse, Salads benefited from crisp Lettuce and handmade Crotons on the classic Caesar while Watermelon and Citrus was bright and refreshing amidst Las Vegas’ 100ᵒF temperatures.

Specially requesting Sin City’s best Gnocchi, in this case dressed in Cheese and Black Pepper for a Pork-averse guest, suffice it to say that the tender Dumplings received across-the-board praise while Rainbow Carrots saw diners return for a second helping thanks to herbs, subtle sweetness and the textural contrast of crumbled Pistachios.

Professionally packed and temperature appropriate, nearly two pounds of Polenta yielding leftovers despite a strong desire to continue eating past satiety, Shrimp on this occasion came with Rigatoni and vibrant Tomato Sauce – a combination not quite so delicious as the spicy Fra Diavolo usually offered, but nonetheless displaying great Ingredients and accessibility to a diversity of palates.

FIVE STARS: Locale Italian Kitchen continues to serve excellent Food made from local Ingredients at a price point that is more than generous, and although some will lament the departure of Chef Brisson it seems safe to say Marc Marrone’s skill set and work ethic are well-suited to make believers out of both fans and skeptics.

RECOMMENDED: Roasted Heirloom Carrots, Cacio e Pepe Gnocchi, Polenta, 6oz Dry-Aged Angus Beef Burger.

Big B’s Texas BBQ Catering [7,] Las Vegas NV

Big B’s Texas BBQ

Lean Brisket, Fatty Brisket, Smoked Turkey

Beef Hot Links

Cornbread

Pecan Pie

Big B’s Texas BBQ opened its second location just prior to Halloween 2019, and on Thursday during Phase Two of Las Vegas’ COVID-19 re-opening plan the Restaurant at 6115 South Fort Apache Road showed again why any discussion of local smoked Meat has began and ended with Brian and Natalia’s brand since 2016.

Named after its Pit Master, and changing the long-held belief that Las Vegas is not a Barbeque town ever since the original opened in Henderson, Big B’s Texas BBQ features the work of Brian Buechner and Natalia Badzjo, the husband and wife team taking a hands-on approach to every aspect of the operation from build-out to driving in fresh piles of wood as needed from the Lone Star State.

Open from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, and Sin City’s best place for Barbecue ever since the original debuted in January 2016, it was ten minutes prior to lunch that the smell of Big B’s Texas BBQ began to drift down the hallway, staff quick to arrive for what was once again an overabundance of smoked Meat, Dessert and Sides.

Already an office favorite, and even more convenient since “II” opened down the street, guests this afternoon found familiar favorites hot and fresh, the inclusion of all necessary plates, utensils and serviceware a given just as has always been the case.

Currently available for dine-in and take-out, COVID-19 precautions seeing all employees clad in PPE, it was really no surprise when Macaroni and Cheese as well as Hot Links were quickly depleted, with a pair of gooey Pecan Pies soon to follow.

Texas through and through, wood driven up from the Lone Star State just one reason why Big B’s Brisket and Turkey outpace growing competition, the choice of lean versus moist generally sees the former go first at this office, though thanks to a deeply penetrating ring of smoke sees both live up to high standards.

Not about to forget Sin City’s best BBQ Beans, or a large Salad requested by some, suffice it to say Rolls were underutilized with several leftover, not because they aren’t good but more so as a result of the abundance of Cornbread that seems to get better and better with time.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it was a disastrous lunch from Famous Dave’s that got the #supportlocal idea going in May of 2018, Big B’s Texas BBQ immediately stepping up and becoming a go-to both then and now with the experience never less than exemplary.

RECOMMENDED: Fatty Brisket, Hot Links, Smoked Turkey, Cornbread, BBQ Beans, Pecan Pie.

AVOID: N/A.

TIP: Now open 11:00am to 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, call (702) 844-8206 for take-out and the city’s best dollar-for-dollar catering value.

Buko Pie

Ube Pastillas Crinkles

Ube Polvoron Donuts with Ube Flan Filling

Ube Cheesecake

Ube Monster Cookie with White Chocolate Chips and Cashews

Nutella Monster Cookie with Chocolate Chips

Chocolate Chip Walnut Ube Fudge Monster Cookie

Named after a popular crop in the Philippines, and a favorite nutritious snack of Chef Ramir Bolanos DeCastro, Purple Potato unfortunately shut its doors in the middle of 2019, the closure after just 21 months largely a result of location rather than Food as the healthy Bowls and quick-casual Sandwiches were almost universally well-received.

Now a year older and wiser, SARS-CoV-2 having entirely reshaped an Off-Strip dining scene that Chef Ramir helped to initiate with Yonaka in early 2013, Purple Potato recently reemerged as an online shop featuring the Restaurant’s signature “Monster Cookies” alongside other Ube-based treats and Filipino Pastries.

Well-priced and delivered free to Las Vegas as well as Henderson, this day’s order acting as Breakfast for an office of twenty-five, it was prior to 7:15am that Ramir arrived porting several boxes, items including the Young Coconut Pie still-warm from the oven with subtle sweetness and a beautiful mélange of textures.

Never actually gone from the local food scene, the rebranding of Yonaka and Purple Potato followed by a consulting gig at McCarran, Chef DeCastro’s current lineup continues with buttery Crinkle Cookies topped with Ube Candy plus bright purple Cheesecake, while those in need of a Donut fix will find lots to love about Paczki-like pockets rolled in Cake crumbles and filled with Ube Custard.

Onward to an old favorite, each Monster Cookie weighing in at 10oz, current choices consist of Ube with White Chocolate and Cashew Chips or Chocolate Chip with a molten Nutella center, though with more flavors since debuting the day’s best was Chocolate Chip Walnut Ube Fudge that eats crisp around the edges and soft at the center with bitter contrasting sweet and no two bites quite the same.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it is great to have Purple Potato back in any format, and although Sushi, Bowls and Wraps are currently not offered Chef Ramir Bolanos DeCastro’s Desserts are better than ever with no lack of creativity and bargain pricing, plus free delivery.

RECOMMENDED: Buko Pie, Ube Pastillas Crinkles, Ube Polvoron Donuts, Ube Monster Cookie, Chocolate Chip Walnut Ube Fudge Monster Cookie.

AVOID: N/A.

TIP: COVID-19 precautions are followed with touch-free delivery available for free on all orders over $30.

Brown Butter Cornbread – Plugra Honey Butter

LJ3 Sliders – Onion, American Cheese, Special Sauce, Housemade Pickles

Crispy Chicken Tenders – BBQ Sauce, Hot Sauce, Housemade Ranch Dressing

Banana Bread French Toast – Bourbon Figs, Brown Butter Pecans, Whipped Cream Cheese

Having previously discussed Johnny C’s Diner here, plus two faultless catering gigs, it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for another #supportlocal Lunch on Tuesday, Sous Chef Sam Brooks again arriving on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.

All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost more than warranted by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from a mix of new and previously tasted Plates that lunch was constructed, Johnny’s Seasonal Market Salad now leaning into Summer with Cucumbers, Watermelon and Tomatoes while the Caesar succeeds in its simplicity thanks to creamy Dressing, handmade Croutons and the best Organic Lettuce available in Las Vegas.

Again including two containers of housemade Pickles, delicious on their own and better atop “LJ3 Sliders” matching Beef griddled medium to Cheese and Special Sauce, those seeking Sin City’s best Chicken Strips no longer need to settle for Cane’s as Johnny C’s uses premium Poultry with a bold spice rub and brining to create something crispy, moist and complex even before a dip in one of five Sauces.

Specifically requesting Chef Church’s Cornbread, a whole tray of the Brown Butter and Sour Cream stunner arriving alongside two sticks of Honey-soaked Plugra Butter, hand-cut Potato Chips also proved popular while Dessert consisted of the upcoming menu’s Banana Bread French Toast with crumbled Pecans, whipped Cream Cheese and boozy Figs.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.

RECOMMENDED: Chef’s Seasonal Market Salad, Housemade Dill Pickles, Potato Chips, Brown Butter Cornbread, LJ3 Slider’s, Banana Bread French Toast.

AVOID: Staff say the Hot Sauce was weak, but it was plenty spicy for this Midwesterner.

Off The Hook Fish N’ Chips [3,] Las Vegas NV

Off The Hook

Onion Rings – Whiskey and Beer Batter

Vegan Sweet Potato Fries

French Fries

Cajun Catfish Bites – Cornmeal Breading, Cajun Spice

Hushpuppies

Loaded Mahi Mahi Fries – Grilled Mahi Mahi, French Fries, Cole Slaw, Pico de Gallo, Spicy Housemade Thai Sauce

Wild Caught Alaskan Cod – Gluten Free Batter

Pacific White Fish – Gluten Free Batter

Reared Catholic on the Great Lakes it was for Lent every year that Fish-frys overtook Friday night, local Churches offering up whatever random White Fish they could find after depleting Perch or Walleye, but here decades later it was for lunch on Saturday that five friends gathered at home to enjoy a freshly fried spread from Off The Hook.

Originally visited in early 2017, and prior to Easter a year later, it is just south of Flamingo on Buffalo Drive that guests will see street signs suggesting “Fish N’ Chips,” neighbor KoMex Fusion now gone but Babystacks nearby still doing brisk business even with 50% inside seating thanks to Covid-19 precautions.

Ordered in advance, GrubHub and Yelp! both offering deals on Food that is already well-priced, it was just prior to Off The Hook’s 12:00pm opening that doors were found open, the owner arriving early to prepare and package eight items that remained hot and crispy for the 8-minute drive home.

More than just “Fish N’ Chips,” laminated menus and chalkboard specials even suggesting some Vegan or Gluten-Free choices, it was with Styrofoam clamshells and cardboard boats wrapped in plastic plus paper bags that several pounds were unpacked, Hushpuppies dense but not greasy while Cajun Catfish Bites were meaty beneath a dusting of Cornmeal and just a bit of heat.

Hand-breading and frying a wide variety of items to order, line-caught Cod dubbed “Premium” outpacing Pacific White Fish that seemed a little flaccid, it was with a splash of Malt Vinegar that filets each proved bountiful and tender, though Onion Rings previously found under-cooked were this time fried a few minutes too long.

Not forgetting “Chips,” or in this case the English equivalent, it remains uncertain as to what makes Sweet Potatoes “Vegan” in comparison to Yukon Gold, but either way the Orange spears amongst Sin City’s best while the regular Spuds are available with a number of toppings, though it seems hard to believe any are better than grilled Mahi Mahi, vibrant Vegetables and Housemade Thai Sauce.

FOUR STARS: Taking all the necessary safety precautions for dine-in and take-out, Off The Hook remains a worthwhile stop for those looking for good fried Fish and French Fries while the menu offers enough variety that everyone can probably find something they’ll enjoy.

RECOMMENDED: Vegan Sweet Potato Fries, Hushpuppies, Loaded Mahi Mahi Fries, Cajun Catfish Bites, Wild Caught Alaskan Cod.

AVOID: Onion Rings were over-fried, White Fish was a bit limp.

TIP: Currently operating noon to 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, and until 6:00pm Sunday.

Unquestionably Las Vegas’ top choice for French Pastry over the past five years, Rosallie Le French Café is back operating with strict safety measures amidst Phase Two of Nevada’s reopening, and just like prior a #supportlocal Breakfast on Thursday saw Christophe assemble a remarkable spread of items both sweet and savory.

Easily arranged through owner Jonathan Pluvinet via ‘Le French Café’s’ e-mail, a budget of $15 per guest yielding enough quality cuisine to feed twice the office’s number of staff, it was by 7:10am that all items were delivered and carefully arranged, Sandwiches and Tartines still warm as were several Pastries.

Also serving Salad and Charcuterie, Rosallie’s Salade Fraiche an office favorite amongst those who strive to eat healthy, it was after indulging in dried Sausage, Paris Ham, and creamy Brie that Tartine L’Espagnole was split and traded for half of a French Toast Breakfast Sandwich loaded with Meat plus Cheese and dripping with Syrup.

Making short work of Jonathan’s World class Walnut Tarte, first the half served as part of the Country Plate and another whole one several hours later, there was no delay in devouring an Almond Croissant still-oven-fresh and better than most in Europe, while versions enhanced by Nutella and Raspberries are also delicious.

No Bostock this time, Blueberries instead found dotting an all-new Muffin that is also offered sporting Cinnamon Apples, Fruit is equally well utilized in Danishes ranging from Peach and Apricot to a truly mesmerizing version that eats akin to Cheesecake topped in Cherry Compote and Almonds.

Happy to share two more Tartes, both Nutella and Pear juxtaposing housemade Almond Paste inside a delicate Shell, Rosallie’s Cinnamon Roll continues to take the American favorite in an entirely new direction by making it light and airy via laminated Dough while two varieties of Madeline seem more worthy of Proust’s adoration with each visit.

Rounding out the afternoon with crispy layers of lamination, a lengthy Twist with Confectioner’s Sugar joining Butter or Cinnamon Palmiers, be sure not to sleep on Rosallie’s Raisin Snail that has emerged recently as one of the Café’s best items thanks to shattering edges surrounding a soft interior rife with Butter.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, from the day Jonathan Pluvinet opened Rosallie on South Rainbow the need to visit Las Vegas Blvd for great French Pastry vanished, and although competition has sprouted up none are in the same class as what he and former Jean-Philippe maestro Christophe are baking daily.

RECOMMENDED: French Toast Breakfast Sandwich, Tartine L’Espagnole, Walnut Tarte, Pear Tarte, Almond Croissant, Cinnamon Roll, Pain au Raisin, Cherry Custard with Pastry Cream Danish, Almond Raspberry Croissant.

With Graffiti Bao’s Marc Marrone now leading Locale Italian Kitchen for over a month, his previous #supportlocal lunch far outpacing that which was received in April, Tuesday’s delivery from partner Andy Hooper further raised the bar.

Now established as a cornerstone of southwest Las Vegas near Mountains Edge, an area long in need of culinary destinations, Phase Two of Nevada’s reopening sees Locale offering dine-in and take-away from Tuesday through Sunday, the menu further evolving and now “closer to the Restaurant’s original vision” according to those involved.

Again allowing Chef Marc and General Manager Paulo Duran to select the catering menu, a mix of regional Italian with family recipes at bargain prices considering both Ingredients and portions, it was at 11:20am that several trays and boxes were delivered, some new dishes alongside old favorites tallying eleven items total.

Professionally packed and temperature appropriate, Locale’s Chop Salad making Kale appealing via smoky Tomato Dressing plus Shallots and Peppers, suffice it to say that housemade Garlic & Mozzarella Bread went quickly while Pizzas achieved balance despite complexity, “Bianco” particularly delectable with added Porchetta in salty contrast to Ricotta, Honey and Pistachios.

Truly a pillar of the community, Marc’s involvement in “Delivering with Dignity” not slowing down one bit despite his leadership of three Restaurants, those who’ve tried any of Graffiti Bao’s Vegetables will be unsurprised that Locale’s Broccolini sees each piece snappy and full of flavor while U8 Shrimp atop Escarole rethink Scampi to let the Crustacean shine instead of being muted by Garlic.

Adding a trio of Pastas, spicy Seafood served on Rigatoni rather than Black Spaghetti for the sake of catering, fans of Gnocchi need look no further than Locale for the lightest Potato Dumplings in Las Vegas, their buoyancy a brilliant foil to slowly-simmered Tomatoes and Pork replicating Nana’s Sunday Gravy.

Giving Anita credit for one of Sin City’s most robustly flavored Meatballs, the thick bed of Fontina Cheese Polenta and Sauce with some Heat building a true “Secondi” out of something usually offered as a Side Dish, Rigatoni Bolognese thankfully appears unchanged from Nicole Brisson’s tenure while Bombolini with the lightness of Malasada are as delicious on their own as they are dipped in Nutella.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Locale Italian Kitchen continues to serve excellent Food made from local Ingredients at a price point that is more than generous, and under the leadership of Marc Marrone the Food only seems to be getting better.

RECOMMENDED: Broccolini, Bianco Pizza, Rigatoni Bolognese, Sunday Sauce Gnocchi, Giant Prawn Scampi, Anita’s Meatballs, Housemade Bombolini.

Classic Calzone – Mozzarella Cheese, Ricotta Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, Housemade Marinara Sauce (added Pepperoni)

Vegetarian Calzone – Mozzarella Cheese, Mushrooms, Onions, Artichokes, Cherry Tomatoes, Housemade Marinara Sauce (minus Olives)

Foretold by the drawing of eleven-year-old Jared Weiss in 1983, and a dream fulfilled alongside cousin Mitch Kane, Cousins New York Pizza & Pasta opened in early May, its location in the West Flamingo shopping complex just off I-215 providing convenient access to Westsiders who likely know the area thanks to LVAC, Starbucks or Target.

An area with no shortage of eateries, local favorites like Lindo Michoacan and Rollin Smoke alongside the likes of Popeyes and Cinnaholic, it is beneath a freshly-hung banner that guests will find Cousins, a well-designed space currently offering socially-distanced seating and friendly staff taking all the necessary Food and personal safety precautions.

A tribute to the Big Apple, Cousins’ story told on the walls surrounding checkered-tablecloth tables, it was with greetings and thanks from Jared that five boxes and two bags were picked-up, curbside or door-to-door delivery also an option for those still leery about dining in.

Thus far a concise menu, New York-style Pies and Italian-American entrées easily customized via Cousins website or smartphone app, lunch began with Garlic Bread and Knots with a side of Marinara , the homemade Loaf soft and splendid beneath dueling Cheeses while the six small balls were unfortunately under-proofed and thus a little tough.

Moving next to a pair of Calzones, both under $10 and stuffed to bursting, it was after a dip in vibrant housemade Sauce that taste and texture set a high standard, the “Classic” with added Pepperoni luxuriously creamy while a Vegetarian version requested without Olives was more heterogeneous thanks to a mélange of roasted Mushrooms, Onions, Artichokes, and bursting Cherry Tomatoes.

Not about to pass on Pizza, two rounds and a Grandma-style rectangle divided amongst seven hungry guests, it was on the word of a trusted local Chef that Cheese Pizza “well done” displayed a crisp base with developed yeastiness beneath nothing more than Sauce and Mozzarella, the “Sicilian” something of a misnomer but nonetheless delicious thanks to its balance of natural Sugars and fresh Basil while “Palermo” stole the spotlight with spicy Calabrian Sausage, sliced Tomatoes and Eggplant.

FOUR STARS: Referencing the 5 Boroughs in terms of name as well as style, Cousins New York Pizza & Pasta will surely please those who romanticize the late-night street corner “Slice,” and although the Ingredient quality may not match Las Vegas’ upper-echelon of Pizzerias the price is more than fair while customer service and safety are most-certainly priorities.

RECOMMENDED: Garlic Bread, Cheese Pizza, Palermo Pizza, Vegetarian Calzone.

AVOID: Garlic Knots.

Started as a counter-service concept inside T-Mobile Arena, Graffiti Bao has been making itself known to Southwest Las Vegas since September 2019, the opportunity to cater Marc Marrone’s Food in February going over so well with staff that delivery from 7355 South Buffalo Drive has been requested five times since.

Previously discussing Chef Marrone’s background here, time with Tao Group unequivocally involved in Asian Cuisine capable of satisfying both discerning diners and folks that typically gravitate to Panda Express, it was on-time that Marc and another Graffiti Bao Chef arrived with everything necessary, professionalism and safety never in question.

Opting for favorites from the first five gigs, in addition to new items from a list that offers far more diversity than its brevity suggests, Crab Rice was predictably the first stop for many, and although the funky Fish Sauce and restrained heat were once again highly praised Graffiti Bao’s Sweet Sesame Beef went just as quickly with the entire tray gone by the end of lunch.

Opting for Orange Duck this time, instead of Chicken, the quality of Graffiti Bao’s sourcing shows well from Protein to Produce, two styles of the Restaurant’s eponymous Buns satisfying diners on this day with the BBQ Pork a favorite for many but the Pulp Fiction referencing Royale with Cheese also pretty tough not to love.

Neglecting White Rice to save stomach capacity for better things, at least three whole Scallion Pancakes devoured including one order alongside Burrata and Garlic Chili Sauce, Basil Chow Fun won out over Lo Mein this time while a first time order of Marrone’s off-menu Spicy Chili Eggplant lived up to its name and praise thanks to Peppers, Onions, lightly sweet sauce and plenty of Thai Basil.

Finishing with Dessert Bao, but not before tackling two scoops of Graffiti Bao’s Fried Rice with crispy Chicken Skins, it was with several staff members packing leftovers that the afternoon passed quickly while already looking forward to the second week in July when an entirely different speaker has *demanded* Graffiti Bao during his first visit to the office since the pandemic started.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Graffiti Bao sets a very high standard in terms of customer service, while every Item across five orders has been nicely presented, displaying “Fusion” without being compromised and appealing to a broad range of diners.

RECOMMENDED: Scallion Pancakes, Burrata, Royale with Cheese Bao Buns, BBQ Pork Bao Buns, Sweet Sesame Beef, Mandarin Orange Duck, Chicken Egg Fried Rice.

AVOID: N/A.

TIP: Southwest location is open: Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 9:30pm and Sunday from 11:00am to 9:00pm. Follow @GraffitiBao for specials including Industry discounts and community support projects during the pandemic.

A part of Las Vegas for over three years, former Estiatorio Milos employee Nikos Georgousis and Girair ‘Jerry’ Goumroian of Henderson’s The Great Greek all-but rescuing the plaza on Rainbow at Tropicana in early 2017, it was amidst COVID-19 precautions that catering was ordered on Tuesday, and just as prior the experience was across-the-board exemplary.

Nothing less than an Off-Strip sensation since opening its doors, and pivoting nicely to off-site dining during the pandemic, it is with Phase Two that guests may opt for dine-in or to-go, Meraki’s servings always more than generous and prices so affordable that one sometimes wonders how the Restaurant is even making a profit.

Defined as “doing something with soul, creativity and love,” a spirit embodied by courteous employees taking all necessary precautions, it was at precisely 11:30am that the Chef arrived with several easy-stacking boxes containing temperature-control trays, this simple extra step guaranteeing Food is indistinguishable from that served inside the Restaurant in terms of quality.

Serving a diverse crowd on this occasion, but doing so with an impressive spread of Proteins, Produce and imported Ingredients, Hummus remains a highlight in terms of taste and texture while Keftedakia, or Greek-style Meatballs earned praise for bold flavors and a smooth grind with slight char accentuating the Herbs and Ouzo.

Asking for Feta and Dressing on the side of Meraki’s Greek Salad, both Olives and Yellow Peppers predictably devoured fast by staff, Greek Rice also received high praise for its fluffiness and flavor while the Gyro kit allowed ample customization of the Beef and Lamb Meat or Chicken with Tomatoes, Lettuce, Onion and tangy Tzatziki made with “authentic” Greek Yogurt.

Happy to find no shortage of Pita, soft and warm rounds gratuitously slathered with dueling Spreads, Las Vegas’ best French Fries saw a half-tray gone by noon while Spanakopita was a bit more polarizing, perhaps due to staff’s lack of familiarity with the traditional Greek dish or perhaps because they instead opted to get their Phyllo-fix with Honey-soaked Baklava rife with Walnuts and still-warm Galaktoboureko featuring silky Citrus Custard.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Meraki Greek Grill offers budget-friendly, fresh and well-crafted Fare with impeccable customer service, Girair and his team’s attention to detail making Meraki Las Vegas’ premier off-Strip spot for Mediterranean cuisine for the last three years.

RECOMMENDED: Hummus, Tzatziki, Gyro, Keftedakia, French Fries, Galaktoboureko, Baklava.

Carson Kitchen Take Out

Crispy Chicken Skins – Smoked Honey

Bacon Jam – Havarti, Toasted Baguette

Black Rice & Oxtail Risotto – Parmesan Cream, Gremolata

Broccoli Crunch – Green Goddess, Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds

Baked Mac & Cheese – Shhh It’s a Secret

Veal Meatballs – Sherry Foie Gras Cream

Brussels Sprouts Caesar – Black Kale, Bacon Lardons

Wild Mushroom Flatbread – Pickled Red Onion, Gruyere

While many Las Vegas Restaurants pivoted to take-out during the earliest stages of Covid-19 Carson Kitchen felt a temporary closure was prudent, but with Phase Two of Nevada’s re-opening now ongoing Kerry Simon and Cory Harwell’s idea that helped resurrect Downtown is back doing what it does best.

Recently celebrating six years serving Sin City, and doing so with ample safety features plus a customer-friendly Take Out program, it was just prior to Carson Kitchen’s noon opening that GM Matthew Harwell was found masked but cheerful, eight items ordered from the website ready to go in carefully sealed “contact free” packages.

Reprising much of last year’s anniversary menu for now, a need for clever new items diminished when most guests currently seek little more than a semblance of “normalcy,” lunch was comprised entirely of items felt best-suited for travel, Cory’s infamous Chicken Skins starting things off after their Honey bath before proceeding to the Brussels Sprouts Caesar that somehow manages to make Kale desirable.

Next up, Bacon Jam, every bite gone within ten minutes of a quick microwave re-heat, it was having rediscovered Oxtail Risotto last August that the dish again shined thanks to Rice with a bit of tooth mixed with Cream, the Mac & Cheese with “Shhh It’s a Secret” ingredients also rekindling memories of more predictable times that now feel distant.

Continuing with some Vegetarian-friendly fare, Carson Kitchen’s menu always featuring one such Flatbread and currently recognizing Mushrooms with Bleu Cheese plus Caramelized Onions as an all-time great, fans of last year’s Broccoli Crunch should stop in soon for one last look at the Crucifer dressed in Green Goddess while omnivorous guests should never forgo a chance to indulge in Veal Meatballs topped in Foie Gras Cream fortified with Sherry.

FIVE STARS: Poised for a celebratory year with expansion to Atlanta and Salt Lake City, SARS-CoV-2 had different plans for Cory, Matthew, Scott and Co., yet immediately upon reopening Carson Kitchen reminds guests of better times with Food, service and “spirit” that crosses cultures and helps to define a city unlike any other.

RECOMMENDED: Chicken Skins, Bacon Jam, Black Rice Oxtail Risotto, Broccoli Crunch, Veal Meatballs.

Always happy to #supportlocal with an office favorite, CRAFTkitchen once again catered lunch on Thursday, Tami Blinn and a sous Chef predictably arriving early with all the necessary items and this time presenting attendees with “Breakfast for Lunch” for the second time.

Previously taking on Mexican and Asian themes, but this time squarely in the Henderson hot-spot’s wheelhouse, it was entirely from CRAFTkitchen’s COVID-19 Phase Two menu that nine items were presented, savories starting with crispy Tortilla Chips topped in housemade Hatch Chile Verde, Beans and Eggs while two-bite Avocado Toasts were a big hit beneath Seeds and Greens.

Always well-portioned and fair-priced, a group of twenty-five getting their fill with plenty of leftovers packed to-go, it was alongside these that guests enjoyed a loaded Cobb Salad plus sweet & spicy Fried Chicken that normally comes with CRAFTkitchen’s miniature Waffles, though not to be forgotten was signature Short Rib Hash that tastes just as good from a temperature controlled tray as it does on-site.

Now featuring a “Breakfast Family Meal” Pancake Bar on the menu, several additions and Topping in this case featuring fluffy Buttermilk Rounds, Whipped Cream and Fruit, sweets continued with three flavors of Kouign Amann, the Pastry itself buttery amidst a light crunch while centers were filled with Berry Compote, Salty Caramel or Ube with Toasted Coconut.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone CRAFTkitchen has always gone the extra mile to assure off-site dining is every bit as delicious as inside the Restaurant on South Eastern, and although it is fun to get creative sometimes this Breakfast-for-Lunch sampling was a generous reminder of what makes Jaret and Tami’s place great to begin with.

RECOMMENDED: Chilaquiles, Short Rib Hash, Chicken & What, Ube Kouign Amann, Sea Salt Caramel Kouign Amann.

AVOID: N/A.

Johnny C’s Diner Catering

Chef’s Seasonal Market Salad – Garden Greens, Cucumbers, Red Wine Drunken Onions, Blue Cheese, House Vinaigrette

Housemade Potato Chips

Brown Butter Cornbread

Deviled Eggs – Paprika, Housemade Bread & Butter Pickles

Hero Sandwich – Turkey, Ham, Salami, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Mayo, Mustard, Olive Oil, Balsamic Redux, Oregano, Salt, Pepper, Hoagie Roll

Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich – Local Honey, Brie Cheese, Walnuts, Brioche

Cubano Sandwich – Ham, Roasted Pork, Swiss Cheese, Mayo-Mustard, Housemade Dill Pickles, Pressed Hoagie Roll

Double Chocolate Cupcakes – Donut Holes, Cinnamon Sugar

Having previously discussed Johnny C’s Diner here, plus a faultless catering gig to follow, it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for another #supportlocal Lunch on Tuesday, Sous Chef Sam Brooks again arriving on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.

All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost more than warranted by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from a mix of new and previously tasted Plates that lunch was constructed, Johnny’s Seasonal Market Salad now without Strawberries but dressed in Cucumbers atop mixed Greens, vibrant Tomatoes, Blue Cheese and Red Wine-soaked Onions.

Tapping a “#secretmenu” for variety, Deviled Eggs with Housemade Bread & Butter Pickles and plenty of Paprika a surprise sensation with the largely Latina staff, Johnny C’s buttery Potato Chips were a more predictable favorite while Cornbread from Wednesday’s #finerdiner Dinner series immediately surpassed any other in Sin City thanks to subtle sweetness balanced by Sour Cream and the nutty linger of Brown Butter.

Onward to Entrees, Johnny C’s Cubano again outpaced the competition thanks to a better-than-average amalgam of Ingredients pressed between Bread, the Hero Sandwich no less impressive despite its complexity while “Best Grilled Cheese” won Pork-free diners over with Honey, Brie and Walnuts between slices of Butter-griddled Brioche.

Not forgetting a few sweets, Chef Church’s Donut Holes crisp and oilless on the outside with a fluffy center surrounded by Cinnamon Sugar, it was mostly as a joke that these were perched atop Chocolate Cupcakes with Dark Chocolate Frosting, though in reality the effect taken in its entirety was reminiscent of a dunked Spanish Churro.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.

RECOMMENDED: Chef’s Seasonal Market Salad, Potato Chips, Brown Butter Cornbread, Cubano Sandwich, Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Donut Holes.

Egg Sammie, Las Vegas NV

Egg Sammie

Crispy Smashed Taters – Smoked Salt, Crack Sauce

Avocado Smash Sammie – Grated Egg Salad, Smashed Avocado, Cilantro, Sprouts, Cotija, Cured Lemon Aioli, Housemade Brioche

The Fremont Sammie – Soft Scrambled Eggs, Caramelized Onions, Fried Mozzarella, Spicy Aioli, Housemade Brioche

Patty Melt Sammie – Griddled Egg, Angus Beef, Aged Cheddar, Bechamel, Housemade Brioche

Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sammie – Griddled Egg, Dill Pickles, Crack Sauce, Housemade Brioche

Meat n’ Potatoes Sammie – Parmesan Scrambled Eggs, Red Wine Beef Short Rib, Crispy Hash Brown Waffle, Arugula, Pickled Red Onion, Horseradish Crema, Housemade Brioche

Croissant Beignets

If Egg Sammie’s “Cheesy Taters” seem familiar there is a reasonable chance it is because Los Angeles’ Eggslut made the Coddled Egg in a Jar something of a sensation nearly a decade ago, yet even though this dish may seem like a copy of Alvin Cailan’s empire-builder the new Restaurant in Las Vegas’ Southwest still has a lot to offer.

Obviously owing both Eggslut and Tao Group’s Egghead a tip of the hat, possibly moreso the latter considering the involvement of Graffiti Bao’s Marc Marrone, it is at the corner of Warm Springs Road and Rainbow Boulevard that guests will find a tall and deep space with counter-order service and socially distanced seating inside.

Opened at a tough time, literally two-weeks before COVID-19 reshaped the globe, it was a few days into Phase Two of Nevada’s re-opening that Egg Sammie was found busy on a Saturday, Marrone and his business partner both present in the kitchen overseeing a young staff that displays excellent adherence to Food and public safety measures.

Best described as “Quick Casual,” but not skimping on Ingredient quality or labor based on a look at Chef Marrone’s Social Media feed, it was just prior to 11:30am that three bags were found ready, inside them a total of ten Sandwiches, Sides and Desserts that remained temperature appropriate for the fifteen minute drive home.

A lot more convenient than Eggslut at the Cosmopolitan, not to mention cheaper as no item on the menu eclipses $9.99, it was after all was removed from careful packaging that six guests tucked in, housemade Brioche providing a soft and buttery delivery mechanism for satin-soft Egg Salad beneath “Avocado Smash” and Sprouts plus vibrant Lemon Aioli.

Located adjacent the new Sprouts Farmers Market, but targeting a generation addicted to Instagram, the next photogenic “Sammie” took its name from Sin City’s eldest street, and although Vegetarian friendly “The Fremont” lacks not for flavor thanks to Soft Scrambled Eggs, Caramelized Onions and fried Mozzarella Cheese plus a liberal splash of Hot Sauce.

Heavier henceforth, Buttermilk Chicken with Pickles and a hit of “Crack Sauce” gilded by the flowing yellow of a fried Egg, those looking for a better “Burger” should step right up to Egg Sammie’s Patty Melt featuring seared Angus, good Cheddar and Bechamel – plus some gratuitous #YolkPorn.

Omitting Vegan “Huevos Rancheros,” and saving Pork Belly Banh Mi for next time, suffice it to say that beyond the Eggslut-riff the Potatoes at Egg Sammie stand-out, first as “Crispy Smashed Taters” that rival those at Wolf in Los Angeles for best-ever use of Potatoes at Breakfast but also as a “Hash Brown Waffle” stacked beneath Beef Short Ribs cooked slow in Red Wine and cheesy Scrambled Eggs as part of “Meat n’ Potatoes.”

Advertising “clever Side Dishes,” though as yet there are only the two types of Potatoes, those seeking a sweet ending are left to choose between “Ultimate” Chocolate Chip Cookies and Croissant Beignets, the 4 for $6.49 Nuggets not-so-different from a two-bite Cronut that is light in Oil but heavy in Confectioner’s Sugar.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS: Opened during tough times, Egg Sammie may have stumbled upon an idea built to thrive in the “new normal,” a combination of skill and good Ingredients paired to low-prices and portability allowing guests to dine however they choose without sacrificing freshness, quality or perceived notions of dine-in safety. From Cage-Free Eggs to Housemade Bread and Sauces, this is “Fast Casual” done on a level beyond all the chains and at about 25% to 50% less cost than at like-concepts on the Strip.

RECOMMENDED: Crispy Smashed Taters, Patty Melt Sammie, Meat n’ Potatoes Sammie, Avocado Smash Sammie.

Continuing Phase Two of Las Vegas’ COVID-19 recovery Shanghai Plaza is picking up steam, a number of facemask-clad patrons forming short lines at both the Ice Cream Parlor and Bakery, but for those seeking a truly outstanding meal the flagship of 4266 Spring Mountain Road remains Chef Jimmy Li’s ShangHai Taste.

Tucked inside Suite 104 of a two-story complex on the corner of Arville Street and Spring Mountain Road, limited seating in the era of Social Distancing making take-out as good an option as dining in, it was via contacting the Restaurant directly that Thursday catering was coordinated, managing partner Joe Muscaglione arriving at 11:30am-sharp with eight items in potions large enough for sharing.

An office #supportlocal first timer, though Chef Li’s time at 3 Villages, 1900 Asian Cuisine and Niu Gu found several familiar with his authentic brand of cooking, it was with all items carefully-packed and temperature appropriate that most got started with Fried Rice, a bit of tooth welcomed amidst Shrimp, Egg and Soy while Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs were a surprising staff-favorite thanks to tender Flesh easily stripped from the Bone.

Sharing several Shanghainese favorites, but keeping the menu concise in comparison to many, fans of Soup Dumplings, or XLB, will be happy to know ShangHai Taste’s set a high standard, and whether one prefers Pork, Crab or even Gluten Free the textures and flavors are great, as too are the fried version entitled Sheng Jian with Sesame Seeds.

Built on family recipes handed down to Chef Li, his House Fried Fat Noodles with choice of Protein always a crowd-pleaser, Shanghai Duck proved somewhat polarizing amongst the less adventurous while Stir-fried Rice Cakes traditionally known as Chao Nian Gao found favor thanks to sticky-soft pillows with salt and a bit of sweetness.

Only offering two Desserts, neither “American” by any stretch, fans of Red Bean Paste should not pass on Jimmy’s Red Bean Xiao Long Bao, the same delicate wrappers traditionally porting Soup here found stuffed with a lightly-sugared Puree lacking any graininess.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Chef Jimmy Li and Joe Muscaglione face an uphill battle much like the rest of Las Vegas’ Restaurants following COVID-19, but for those seeking Chinatown’s best Shanghainese Cuisine there is simply none better when accounting for cost, quality and customer service.

Happy to find no shortage of Pita, soft and warm triangles gratuitously slathered with dueling Spreads, Chicken Kalamakia saw all twenty-five skewers gone by noon before diners delved into a pair of Desserts, Mama’s Rice Pudding winning over several Hispanics familiar with Arroz Con Leche while Galaktoboureko served as the buttery-sweet alternative to Tiropita – both absolutely delicious and the still-warm Citrus Semolina Custard amidst Phyllo Dough arguably the best thing tasted yet in 2020.

The third location of an established local brand, Fiesta Filipina Cuisine took over a 2,600-square-foot space at the Desert Marketplace retail center in early 2016, and although nearby Glazier’s has been replaced by Smith’s the Filipino Restaurant at 8545 West Warm Springs Road continues to do good business even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liked by natives for low prices and “authentic” flavors, “Your favorite lutong Pampanga” one of Fiesta Filipina’s long-held marketing slogans, it was at 11:30am on Saturday that the Restaurant was found sporting an eight-patron queue, all staff in PPE while guests both seated and standing followed safe social distancing guidelines.

Known for dishes from the Philippines’ Central Luzon region, many familiar but some less commonly seen on the menus of other like-Restaurants, Fiesta Filipina is currently serving guests from 10:00am until 8:00pm daily, the cafeteria-style service and price-per-weight allowing for quite a lot of Food at prices comparable to most quick-casual chains.

Also found at 3310 South Jones Boulevard and 2980 St. Rose Parkway, meals for most begin with Lumpia, the “Fresh” version also known as Lumpiang Sariwa a rolled Flour Pancake filled with Vegetables and topped with Peanut Sauce while Lumpiang Shanghai are about the size of a half-cigar, crispy and upgraded with Meat in portions ranging 7 for $4.99 to 100 for $39.99.

Incorporating both Canton (thick) and Bihon (thin) Rice Noodles in Pancit, a Chinese-inspired dish with subtle sweetness and Soy, Chicken is the focal point of many plates at Fiesta Filipina, though in the case of Adobo that was overwhelmed by Vinegar the better choice may be Pork such as the crispy skinned chunks featured in Lechon Kawali.

Extensive with Condiments and Sauces, a station near the register offering tiny cups for everything from Ketchup to Lechon Sauce or Toyo’t Kalamansi, fans of Milkfish will find fried Bangus well-seasoned, tender and best with Skin-on while Beef Tapa is an unanticipated surprise softening Sirloin with a simple Cure that is part-salty but brightened by acid and Sugar.

Not expecting Halo-Halo to travel well, and briefly entertaining Banana Rolls, it was from a small selection of Cakes and Confections that Ube Bibingka was gathered, the texture akin to Angel Food agreeable while flavors including Purple Potato and Coconut gave the Glutinous Rice Flour its characteristic taste and color.

THREE AND A HALF STARS: Quick, casual, convenient and popular with Las Vegas’ sizable Filipino population there is plenty to like about Fiesta Filipina Cuisine, but given the intrinsic issues of batch cooking and cafeteria-style service the bargain prices are unlikely to yield anything quite so elevated or complex as Food made-to-order.

RECOMMENDED: Fresh Lumpia, Pancit, Lechon Kawali, Beef Tapa.

AVOID: Chicken Adobo was far too sour, and approximately 1 in 4 Lumpiang Shanghai was frankly greasy.

TIP: No website despite three locations, so check postmates, grubhub, seamless, or doordash for menu.

WHAT THE STARS MEAN: 5 World Class, 4 Excellent, 3 Good, 2 Fair, 1 Poor.

Now inhabiting the block south of Spring Mountain Road on Fort Apache since just before Memorial Day 2019, it was based on the strength of a two previous catering gigs that #supportlocal lunch was ordered from Cubanidad 1885, e-mails answered in a timely manner by Mark Snyder making catering for twenty-five simple while the portions that arrived were plentiful.

Dubbed “the Ybor Original,” locations in Tampa Bay as well as Miami highly regarded for the Cuisine of Chef Dennis Martinez Miranda, it was by one of the Restaurant’s own staff that several trays were delivered at a cost of $30, in this case utilizing EZCater at the request of an out-of-state speaker.

Packing everything in temperature-controlled containers, a fifteen minute drive to the office finding everything but Desserts and Sauces piping hot, it was with items unpacked that staff explored flavors novel yet familiar, several Hispanics quick to praise Empanadas packed with a variety of Filings such as Beef with Olives or Minced Ham and Cheese.

A locally-owned import, Chef Miranda’s Cuban upbringing and professional training in Venezuela followed by Miami yielding products with big flavors as well as proper technique, it is great fortune for fans of Brandade, Baccala or even “Fish Sticks” that Cubanidad’s Coquettes match the quality of those seen throughout southern Florida, the Plantain “Maduros” balancing sweet with sour while “Puré de Boniato” picked up taste and texture from a topping of Chicharrones.

Opting against roast Meats this time, but happy to tuck-into Pork or Chicken Croquettes, it was alongside Yuca Fries that Cubanidad 1885’s “305 Miami Cuban Sandwich” compared favorably to Medianoche from last time while Pastelitos in two flavors eat light, flakey and better than those at any local Panaderia thanks to Butter-laminated Pastry nearly bursting with sweetened Coconut or Guava Jam and Cream Cheese.

Not about to skip Dessert, housemade Flan darkened by nearly-burnt Sugar stunning at such a low cost, Tres Leches lacked the Frosting from April but still fared well, though it is not quite as delicious and unique as chilled Dulce de Leche Cortada, syrup-sweet Cuban Capuchinos or Peanut Turrón on par with some of the best in Spain.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Cubanidad puts on a very impressive display in terms of customer service and preparedness while the product served far outperforms the modest price point.

RECOMMENDED: Cod Fish Croquette, Minced Ham and Bechamel Croquette, Sweet Potato Mash Puré, Maduros, Ham and Cheese Empanada, Ropa Vieja and Plantain Empanada, The 305 Miami Cuban Sandwich, Flan, Guava and Cheese Pastelitio, Turrón de Maní, Cabezotes de Capuchino.

AVOID: Catering Order again came without serving utensils, a small detail but something to keep in mind.

TIP: Online Ordering available through all the usual suspects, but calling or e-mailing directly saves the Restaurant a lot of money and comes with free delivery within 5 miles for orders over $25.

According to some estimates the economic impact of SARS-CoV-2 could be as many as 1/3 of America’s Restaurants, and although Locale Italian Kitchen continued to serve Las Vegas as both a market and take-out operation from the pandemic’s earliest days it now functions with Graffiti Bao’s Marc Marrone leading the Kitchen.

A shocking development to many, James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef Southwest Nicole Brisson departing the Restaurant she helped build less than ten months in, sources suggest it was a mutual decision between Nicole and partner Andy Hooper that saw Tao Group’s former-corporate Executive Chef step in, and give Marrone’s decade-long involvement with Lavo at The Palazzo the good news is that the transition will seem seamless to most guests.

Now established as a cornerstone of southwest Las Vegas near Mountains Edge, an area long in need of culinary destinations, Phase One of Nevada’s reopening sees Locale offering dine-in and take-away from Tuesday through Sunday, the menu still regional Italian with added family recipes while prices are a bargain considering both Ingredients and portions.

Allowing Chef Marc and General Manager Paulo Duran to self-select a catering menu, trust earned across a combined six events over the past four months, it was at 11:30am that both men and Mr. Hooper arrived porting several trays and boxes tallying fifteen all-new menu items in total.

Professionally packed and temperature appropriate, a Chop Salad making Kale appealing via smoky Tomato Dressing plus Shallots and Peppers, suffice it to say that housemade Garlic & Mozzarella Bread is a big step-up from outsourced Baguette and Focaccia served prior, while Pizzas formerly oblong are now round and decidedly more complex thanks to 96-hour fermented Dough that remains soft and pliable at the center of a charred cornicione.

Truly a pillar of the community, Marc’s involvement in “Delivering with Dignity” not slowing down one bit despite an expansion of duties, those who’ve tried any of Graffiti Bao’s Vegetables will be unsurprised that Contorni at Locale adhere to an equally high standard, Broccolini and Potatoes each simple yet appetizing while Rainbow Carrots are texturally masterful and coaxed to peak flavor with Butter and a bit of Honey.

Adding a pair of Pastas, spicy Shrimp served on Rigatoni rather than Black Spaghetti for the sake of catering, fans of Gnocchi need look no further than Locale for the lightest Potato Dumplings in Las Vegas, their buoyancy a brilliant foil to slowly-simmered Tomatoes and Pork replicating Nana’s Sunday Gravy.

Giving Anita credit for one of Sin City’s most robustly flavored Meatballs, the thick bed of Fontina Cheese Polenta and Sauce with some Heat building a true “Secondi” out of something usually offered as a Side Dish, Scarpariello Chicken serves as a lean Protein lacking not for flavor while Locale’s evolving Dessert Menu features jumbo Bombolini that eat lighter than their size might suggest plus a moist yet toothsome seasonal Yogurt Cake.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Locale Italian Kitchen continues to serve excellent Food made from local Ingredients at a price point that is more than generous, and although some will lament the departure of Chef Brisson it seems safe to say Marc Marrone’s skill set and work ethic are well-suited to make believers out of both fans and skeptics.

RECOMMENDED: Roasted Heirloom Carrots, Broccolini, Pepperoni Pizza, Sunday Sauce Gnocchi, Anita’s Meatballs, Housemade Bombolini, Strawberry Rhubarb Yogurt Cake (which comes with Whipped Cream and Pistachio Gelato for dine-in)

Big B’s Texas BBQ 2 [4,] Las Vegas NV

Big B’s Texas BBQ 2

Lean Brisket, Fatty Brisket, Pulled Pork, Beef Hot Links

Potato Salad

BBQ Beans

Creamed Corn

Slider Rolls

Hand Cut French Fries

Big B’s Texas BBQ opened its second location just prior to Halloween 2019, and on Saturday during Phase One of Las Vegas’ COVID-19 re-opening plan the Restaurant at 6115 South Fort Apache Road showed again why any discussion of local smoked Meat has began and ended with Brian and Natalia’s brand since 2016.

Currently working with a skeleton crew, but doing brisk business for dine-in and take-out, guests entering location number two currently will notice all employees clad in PPE, menu largely unaltered and prices still a bargain even as Ingredient costs have risen during the pandemic.

Ready to serve the community during both good and bad times, it was with everything pre-ordered that Meats, Breads and Sides were prepared quickly, a look at the dining area showing ample space for proper social distancing across several tables including Big B’s patio.

Going light on Sides, but focusing on favorites including Sin City’s best BBQ Beans plus Creamed Corn that continues to impress guests of all ages, it was by request that fans got their fill of Buechner’s Potato Salad and hand-cut Fries while others conserved stomach space for Big B’s Brisket that follows Texas protocol with little more than smoke and a bit of seasoning.

Building Sliders with Rolls, Pulled Pork and a splash of Sauce – Pickles, Peppers and Onions optional – Hot Links also went fast with a snap yielding juicy insides, and although Dessert was skipped this time a look at the store’s display suggests all Big B’s favorites are back after a short Corona Virus hiatus.

FIVE STARS: A fan of Big B’s Texas BBQ ever since Brian and Natalia opened the doors in early 2016, the flavors brought from Texas to Vegas and Henderson are everything are everything one might want good or bad times, whether dining in or at home.

RECOMMENDED: Fatty Brisket, Hot Links, Creamed Corn, BBQ Beans, Fries.

AVOID: N/A.

TIP: Now open 11:00am to 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, call (702) 844-8206 for take-out and the city’s best dollar-for-dollar catering value.
