Shuttered May 24th, and reopened 9 months later at 1450 West Horizon Ridge Pkwy, it would be hard to name a worse overall dining experience than dinner at Served.
Known for globally-influenced Cuisine, and enjoyed previously at Brunch, the recent re-location finds owner Matt Meyer inhabiting a substantially larger space, the former TATA Bistro as yet unfinished, dark and drab with a menu that lacks any semblance of focus.
Is it Asian? Peruvian? American or French? Who has Chef Meyer ever worked for to take on such a project? The only real obvious answer is that he has quickly bitten off more than he can chew with sloppy Lomo Saltado and Miso Carbonara featuring burned Pork Belly alongside thick Pasta with clumpy Cream-based Sauce.
Don’t like it? Too bad. Chef will call you names before admitting errors, per multiple accounts including this writer who was called as “Asshole” for offering feedback.

Open from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, and Sin City’s best place for Barbecue ever since the original debuted in January 2016, it was just prior to 11:30am that the smell of Big B’s Texas BBQ began to drift down the hallway, staff quick to arrive for what was once again an overabundance of smoked Meat and Sides.
Texas through and through, wood driven in from The Lone Star State just one reason why Big B’s Brisket, Links and Turkey outpace growing competition, it was due to budget limits that this lunch was more limited than many, though thanks to Natalia and Brian everything went perfectly, just as it has since the beginning.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it was a disastrous lunch from Famous Dave’s that got the #supportlocal idea going in May of 2018, Big B’s Texas BBQ immediately stepping up and becoming a go-to both then and now with the experience never less than exemplary.

Having previously discussed Johnny C’s Diner here, plus eleven faultless catering gigs and the office Holiday Dinner, it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for another #supportlocal Lunch on Monday, Chef Church arriving precisely on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.
All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost more than warranted by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from the current menu that lunch was constructed, Johnny’s Wedge Salad rivaling any top-tier Steakhouse thanks to ripe Tomatoes, Blue Cheese, Onions and Bacon.
Diving next into two Sandwiches, enjoyed alongside a handful of Johnny C’s buttery Potato Chips, Johnny’s housemade Pickles continue to make all the difference for a Cubano on par with any in Las Vegas, though the “I Need a Hero Sandwich” also receives raves thanks to impeccable balance despite over a dozen Ingredients.
Next satisfying a craving with for fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits, arguably Sin City’s best even before a scoop of peppered Pork Gravy, it was on the heels of Mel’s Macaroni and Cheese plus the gloriously atypical Grilled Cheese Sandwich that Dessert consisted of Johnny’s family-recipe Orange Cake that is light and moist with bright Citrus in every bite.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.

Unquestionably Las Vegas’ top choice for French Pastry over the past 5+ years, Rosallie Le French Café continues to operate with strict safety measures amidst the pandemic, and just like prior a #supportlocal Breakfast on Friday saw Christophe assemble a remarkable spread of items both sweet and savory.
Easily arranged through owner Jonathan Pluvinet via ‘Le French Café’s’ e-mail, a budget of $20 per guest yielding enough quality cuisine and Coffee to feed twice the office’s number of staff, it was by 7:10am that all items were delivered and carefully arranged, Sandwiches still warm as were several Pastries.
Also serving Salad and Quiche, Rosallie’s Salade Fraiche an office favorite amongst those who strive to eat healthy, it was after indulging in an all-Butter Crust and filled with Bacon, Potatoes and melted Tartiflette Cheese that a French Toast Breakfast Sandwich was also enjoyed thanks to golden Brioche cradling Meat, Mozzarella and a touch of Syrup.
Making short work of Jonathan’s World class Walnut Tarte, there was no delay in devouring an Almond Croissant still-oven-fresh and better than most in Europe, while the version enhanced by Raspberries was also delicious.
Happy to see two more slices of Brioche, Bostock with housemade Almond Paste and Blueberries or Caramel Apples baked-in, a new Pie has joined Rosallie’s collection in the form of Raspberry Puree beneath a Pasty lattice while Cherries have finally returned atop Christophe’s flaky Danish.
Onward with Cakes and Tarts, several shared with staff, housemade Lemon Curd finds a match in airy Meringue while Fruit-topped Custard and sliced Pears with Almonds exhibit traditional elegance also witnessed in an Espresso-soaked Opera.
Finishing with a sized-up Cinnamon Roll, laminated Dough taking the American favorite in an entirely new direction, fans of Red Velvet Cake will find Rosallie’s version far less sweet than most, its Cocoa-rich Sponge instead accented by thin ribbons of Cream Cheese Icing and a layer of fresh Fruit.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, from the day Jonathan Pluvinet opened Rosallie on South Rainbow the need to visit Las Vegas Blvd for great French Pastry vanished, and although competition has sprouted up none are in the same class as what he and former Jean-Philippe maestro Christophe are baking daily.

Always happy to #supportlocal with an office favorite, CRAFTkitchen once again catered lunch on Wednesday, Chef Blinn predictably arriving early with all the necessary items and this time presenting attendees with a Latin-themed meal featuring both classics and novelties.
By no means a “Mexican” Restaurant, but nonetheless offering Meats such as Carnitas and Chorizo daily as part of Omelets, Bennys and more, it was around 11:20am that Jaret arrived porting several trays and bowls all maintained at appropriate temperatures, a build-your-own Taco bar particularly impressive thanks to condiments including housemade Guacamole, Lime Tortilla Chips, Pico de Gallo and Salsa.
Always well-portioned and fair-priced, a group of twenty-five getting their fill with plenty of leftovers packed to-go, it was beginning with aforementioned Tacos that several Hispanic employees praised both Tinga-style Chicken and slowly simmered Pork, the light acidity of each pairing nicely with mashed Avocados bright with Garlic plus julienned Radish, diced Onions and more.
Adding extra Guacamole this time, and skipping Flour Tortillas in favor of twice as many Corn, Elote Dip has finally earned its place amongst dishes employees request by name, all the flavors of Street Corn delivered amidst the texture of Korean Corn Cheese while CRAFTkitchen’s Seasoned Rice and crispy Potatoes also performed admirably.
Breaking theme for Dessert, a platter of Coconut Macaroons and Lemon Bars receiving universal praise, it was as an added bonus that Cheesecake arrived alongside Chef Blinn’s city-best Carrot Cake, the base lighter than most yet a perfect match for the sweet and tangy Frosting.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone CRAFTkitchen has always gone the extra mile to assure off-site dining is every bit as delicious as inside the Restaurant on South Eastern, and in the era post-COVID 19 it will be that same dedication which draws guests back, reminding everyone of what made Jaret and Tami’s place great to begin with.
Opened in 2018, and the only relevant option for Spanish Cuisine since that time, Las Vegas has benefitted tremendously from the presence of EDO Gastro Tapas & Wine in the plaza on the corner of South Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.
Inspired by Catalonian traditions, Chef Oscar Amador Edo’s upbringing in Barcelona gifting him with a respect for diverse Ingredients and an ability to craft poignant bites that highlight rather than hide them, it was as a party of two that guests were accommodated along a banquet near the kitchen, GM Roberto Liendo charged with creating a Menu Degustacion including both regularly offered items and nightly inspirations.
An acronym for “Extra Day Off,” though EDO itself is open from 5pm until 9pm daily with safe social distancing, it was with 35% of the Restaurant’s other 34 seats full by 7:30 on a Tuesday that things were underway quickly, a glass of Cava pairing well with vibrant Gazpacho as well as creamy Hen Eggs topped with a quartet from Fish including Kaluga Caviar.
Eye-opening for first-timers, and respite for anyone who finds American “Tapas” sorely lacking after multiple visits to Spain, what arrived next can best be described as seven bites in one, Edo’s Chilled Shellfish finding each selection individually garnished such that Lobster, Scallops and Clams each stand out while the rest most certainly hold their own.
Weaving traditional to modern in a manner not dissimilar from Jose Andres or even the Adria brothers, imported Charcuterie atop Puffed Bread lingering long after a single bite, the Big Eye Tuna Rosette takes flight thanks to Peruvian “Tiger’s Milk” while Foie Gras Torchon presents silky smooth alongside Bread, Tomato Jam and fragrant Foam.
Continuing with two signatures, EDO’s “Green Tartare” delightful and entirely Vegan, fans will be happy to know that Chef Oscar’s Spanish Bikini remains unparalleled while an all new “Deconstructed” Spanish Tortilla looks like something one might find at Enigma in Barcelona and tastes better with each progressive spoonful.
Blessed by a bounty of late-season Truffles, in this case Spanish but still plenty aromatic, Artichokes found themselves enhanced by dueling imported Meats while the Beef Rossini special is highlighted by thick shaving atop Seared Duck Liver, Buttery Potatoes, American Wagyu and flawless Bordelaise.
Offered one more savory to finish, creamy Rice with roasted Mushrooms and nutty-sweet Cheese arguably the evening’s best dish, Dessert was again a graciously light signature with housemade “Popcorn Cream” a brilliant foil to frozen Strawberries.
FIVE STARS: Perhaps not as “fancy” as the Michelin starred Celebrity spots, Chef Oscar Amador continues to create bold and balanced plates both traditional and modern while service led by Roberto Liendo contributes to a truly world-class experience.

Serving Las Vegas for over forty years one might well assume Metro Pizza has the delivery game down to a science, and even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic John Arena and Sam Facchini’s Pizzeria remains irreproachable in terms of customer service.
Featuring locations North, South, East and West, with another soon to come at the Convention Center, it was minutes prior to 11:30am that delivery arrived porting Food, utensils, plates and condiments, each carefully packaged such that Salad and Desserts were chilled with everything else piping-hot.
Suitable for almost any budget, though late-2019 changes have created a more concise menu, it was focused on old favorites that seven Pies plus Sausage & Peppers, Salad and Dessert were received for under $15 per guest, the all-inclusive cost predictably yielding enough for all plus an assortment of leftovers.
Now the sixteenth time delivering to this office, in addition to a dozen or more visits to locations on Decatur, Horizon Ridge or Sky Pointe, it was beginning with Salad that many once again praised Metro’s duo of housemade Dressings, though those more concerned with eating while Food was still temperature appropriate predictably went straight for familiar Pepperoni or the “Zamboni” Pizza complete with two Meats, Roasted Peppers and a generous drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey.
Moving next to Old New York, a classic trio on voluptuous Crust, several staff took a chance on Metro’s “Milano” with added Sausage while the “Triple Play” beneath three-times the Meat stood no chance as crispy rectangular Slices were quickly devoured.
Not about to pass by 86th Street, the cold-fermented Sicilian remaining defiantly light despite its thickness even after traveling ten miles, the offering of “Brooklyn Jr.” allowed those who inexplicably “don’t like” Pepperoni to try America’s best Sicilian with Mushrooms while two Pepperoni Pies including a February heart-shape special also disappeared within the hour.
Finishing with Metro Pizza’s Cannoli, a dozen filled-to-order Cannoli, suffice it to say that Metro remains Las Vegas’ best Pizzeria entering 2021, and despite mounting competition the gap only seems to be widening.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone there is a reason John and Sam have been successfully serving Las Vegas for so long, a good part of it skill and doing things the right way, but also by focusing on the customer to deliver on their promises no matter how big or small the budget.
Market Citrus – Yuzu Cream, White Chocolate, Tropical Fruit
Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake – Vanilla Ice Cream
New York-style Cheesecake – Sour Cherry Sorbet
Last visited shortly after celebrating a decade on Aria’s second floor, before COVID-19 altered the face of dining out forever, it was alongside five others that the first visit to Jean Georges Steakhouse in thirteen months showed Chef Griffin and his team executing at an unparalleled level.
Led by Chef Griffin since 2015, including a renovation that upgraded décor and delivery of pristine Proteins and Produce, guests entering Jean Georges Steakhouse are greeted first at a podium before being led to spot-lit tables, the mood upscale but never stuffy while prices track similar to other similar Restaurants that feature far less creative cuisine.
Decorated in gold, and currently offering a somewhat limited menu via QR Code, it was at two tables in the Private Dining Room that carte blanche was deferred to the kitchen, Wine and Cocktails quickly followed by buttery Loaves of Brioche and familiar appetizers such as Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp, Wagyu Carpaccio and sliced Fish draped atop pan-seared Rice.
Using Salad as a segue to grilled Meats, the iconic Hearts of Palm and Tomatoes praised by all for its brightness while a simple Caesar and vibrant Citrus Salad also performed well, it was on a large central board the two full Bones of Marrow soon arrived with grilled Prawns, Rib Cap and F1 Wagyu, the hybrid buttery and rich which thus relegated Jean Georges quartet of Sauces mostly irrelevant, no matter how good.
Omitting the Wagyu Brisket until things are back to “normal,” Colorado Lamb standing in nicely, no guest should leave Jean Georges without a taste of the city’s best Fried Chicken, and if in season also the crispy Brussels Sprouts with Avocado and Balsamic.
Refreshing the palate between bites with Mushrooms and Potatoes, the latter particularly indulgent, Dessert saw nothing but old favorites down the line, Chef Vongerichten’s Chocolate Cake served with tableside theatrics and followed by Cheesecake plus photo-friendly Citrus and a special request for one diner celebrating his Birthday.
FIVE STARS: A recurring favorite for special occasions, and on any given night Las Vegas’ best Steakhouse, Jean Georges Steakhouse continues to shine as a result of Ingredient sourcing and Chef Griffin’s cooking with no signs of slowing in terms of quality or creativity.
RECOMMENDED: Japanese Wagyu Carpaccio, Tomato Salad, 6oz F1 Wagyu Filet, Bone Marrow, Double Lamb Chops, U4 Salt Water Prawns, Crunchy Organic Chicken, Caramelized Brussels Sprouts, Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes.
AVOID: N/A…but Dessert without the Market Apple Pie feels wrong.
TIP: Online Menu is currently up-to-date.

Now a part of Sin City since August of 2015, Jonathan Pluvinet’s transformation of the former 7-Eleven into ‘Le French Café’ a tale of skill and determination that has since seen him open a second location outside of Orlando, guests entering Rosallie now will find safe social distancing and PPE-use in practice, plus a bounty of old and new favorites from lead Baker and General Manager Christophe.
Still Las Vegas’ premier bakery for French Pastry, and even better when dining amidst Chef Pluvinet’s handmade furniture and décor, Saturday before Valentine’s Day found the space filled to Nevada’s current capacity while guests enjoyed a wide range of Salads, Sandwiches, Tartines and Viennoiseries.
Festively decorated, with a small pop-up of local goods near the door, it was alongside hand-blended Coffee that Brunch got started, Florida’s “French Breakfast Board” replacing the French Toast Sandwich in a more elaborate fashion while L’Americaine Tartine shined thanks to laminated Dough beneath Mozzarella Cheese, a runny Egg and Honey Cured Bacon.
Assuredly a Café in the French sense, an atmosphere conducive to conversation, work or relaxation found throughout divided spaces including a library and private room, those looking for the 702’s best Croissants need look no further than those baked by Jonathan and his family since 1983, the hiring of former Jean-Philippe employees only improving versions such as Almond and Almond Raspberry made with hand-ground Nuts instead of Frangipane.
No less show-stopping in terms of Tartes and Pies, the Valley’s only known version featuring Walnuts but one example of Pluvinet’s respect for French tradition, daily specials included decorative loaves of Brioche as well as smaller, sweet Breads featuring Nutella or Jam.
Never missing Blueberry-studded Bostock when available, Valentine’s Day seemed as good an excuse as ever to indulge in Chocolate for Breakfast, the Pain au Chocolat an old standby while Christophe’s laminated Twist with melted interior and crunchy pearls on top is a textural masterpiece.
FIVE STARS: From the day Jonathan Pluvinet opened Rosallie on South Rainbow the need to visit Las Vegas Blvd for great French Pastry vanished, and although competition has sprouted up none are in the same class as what he and former Jean-Philippe maestro Christophe are baking daily.
RECOMMENDED: Everything.

Now a regular part of the lunch rotation, former Estiatorio Milos Chef Nikos Georgousis and Girair ‘Jerry’ Goumroian of Henderson’s The Great Greek all-but rescuing the plaza on Rainbow at Tropicana in early 2017, it was amidst COVID-19 precautions that catering was ordered on Wednesday, and difficult as it may seem to believe these guys just keep getting better.
Nothing less than an Off-Strip sensation since opening its doors, and pivoting nicely to off-site dining during the pandemic, guests may now opt for dine-in or take-out, Meraki’s servings always more than generous and prices so affordable that one sometimes wonders how the Restaurant is even making a profit.
Defined as “doing something with soul, creativity and love,” a spirit embodied by courteous employees taking all necessary precautions, it was at precisely 11:30am that Jerry arrived with several easy-stacking boxes containing temperature-control trays, this simple extra step guaranteeing Food is indistinguishable from that served inside the Restaurant.
Serving a diverse crowd on this occasion, but doing so with an impressive spread of Proteins, Produce and imported Ingredients, Hummus remains a highlight in terms of taste and texture while Keftedakia, or Greek-style Meatballs, earned praise for bold flavors and a smooth grind with slight char accentuating the Herbs, Ouzo and Citrus.
This time finding Feta atop Meraki’s Greek Salad, a problem for some staff that nonetheless saw both Olives and Yellow Peppers devoured quickly, Greek Rice also received high praise for its fluffiness and flavor while the Gyro kit allowed ample customization of marinated Chicken with Tomatoes, Lettuce, Onion and tangy Tzatziki made with “authentic” Greek Yogurt.
Happy to find no shortage of Pita, soft and warm rounds gratuitously slathered with dueling Spreads including herbaceous Melizanosalata, Vegetarians were further treated to crisp and oilless Potatoes lightly perfumed by Herbs or two-bite Falafel that are light but toothsome and fragrant with Garlic as well as Cilantro.
Not forgetting Dessert, still-warm Galaktoboureko featuring Citrus Semolina Custard amidst Phyllo Dough still a personal favorite, Honey-soaked Baklava rife with Walnuts is also highly recommended and arguably the best in Sin City.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Meraki Greek Grill offers budget-friendly, fresh and well-crafted Fare with impeccable customer service, Girair and his team’s attention to detail making Meraki Las Vegas’ premier off-Strip spot for Mediterranean cuisine for the last four years.

Located at 1040 East Flamingo Road, an area once dense with Indian Restaurants and UNLV students, it was late 2017 that owner Ulzan Mehta merged India Oven and India Masala to become India Oven Masala Bar & Grill, the interior one of Las Vegas’ most elegant and the combination of dishes representing North and South India offering a great deal of diversity.
Not far from Maryland Parkway and the National Atomic Testing Museum, COVID-19 altering not only the culinary landscape but India Oven Masala’s once-popular Buffet, it was for the first time in over a year that catering was requested across town on Monday, the spread for 25 guests arriving on-time, temperature appropriate and complete with all seviceware, plates and utensils.
Happy to let the accountant-turned-cook concoct a menu, four prior events pleasing a variety of guests, it was with bold smells perfuming the office that attendees gathered plates and perused options before selecting, recognizable items such as Kebobs, Naan and Rice predictably going first while Samosas also proved popular thanks to both their familiarity and bold taste.
Slower to accept Saag Paneer, its visual appeal always in question even though the combination of springy Cheese and Spinach is unquestionably delicious, it was no surprise that Butter Chicken many mistakenly called Tikka Masala also went quickly, the brightness of Coriander particularly noteworthy while creamy Gravy helped sell many on Bone-In Goat Korma.
Requesting no Daal on this visit, but instead golden Pakora that are good on their own but better with Chutney, it was after a few more pieces of Naan that Dessert was enjoyed, Gulab Jamun syrupy and satisfying while Kheer was good but unfortunately a little overlooked thanks to impeccable Gajar Halwa that ranks as the best to grace this writer’s mouth.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone there are only a few Indian Restaurants in town that offer the breadth and quality to please a diverse staff, and on Monday Ulzan Mehta and his team at India Oven Masala Bar & Grill outperformed expectations once again.

With four locations in Las Vegas, and recurrent “Best of Vegas” nods across several categories since inception, Aloha Kitchen & Bar remains busy mid-pandemic thanks to a strong following from native Hawaiians as well as guests happy to embrace Sin City’s “9th Island” status.
Currently open for dine-in and take out, all the usual Apps offering delivery from 8am until after midnight, it was at the 2605 South Decatur Boulevard store that several combos were picked up minutes prior to 11:30am on Saturday, everything packed and ready as promised from Aloha Kitchen’s safe and courteous staff.
Driven just twelve minutes home for consumption, Styrofoam clamshells slightly compromising golden Chicken Katsu as well as thickly battered Fish, diners familiar with Hawaiian Cuisine will expectedly find plenty of Rice packed alongside hefty portions of Protein, plus creamy Macaroni Salad offered in plastic containers in order to maintain a temperature that is cool and appropriate.
Built largely on the “Plate Lunch,” though “Sides” of most items can be ordered to taste something specific or round out a meal, it was beginning with well-marinated Kalbi that lunch got started, its bone-in nature the only real difference compared to Sugar and Soy Teriyaki available atop Beef as well as Chicken.
Incorporating diverse influences, the Philippines’ Lumpia found Pork-stuffed alongside miniature Egg Rolls that are more expensive yet less flavorful, those in the know will recognize Saimin as mandatory, in this case served without Broth but still featuring lots of sliced Pig and Scallions amidst the springy Egg Noodles.
Known to take their Swine serious, classic Kalua Pig’s smoky top-note differentiating it from Adobo brightened by Acid, it was wrapped in Taro Leaves that impart a slightly bitter flavor that Pork Lau Lau proved quite delicious while Aloha Kitchen’s “Rice Lovers Omelette” seems a little weird to those more familiar with European Food, though both its flavor and texture are enjoyable.
THREE AND A HALF STARS: Judged strictly based on take-out, Aloha Kitchen offers excellent value on the dollar and good customer service, though by-and-by some flavors are sweeter than necessary while the texture of fried items could be improved through better packaging.
RECOMMENDED: Kalua Pig, Chicken Fried Rice Lovers Omelette, Fried Saimin with Pork, Pork Lau Lau.
AVOID: Egg Roll, Chicken Katsu, Chicken Teriyaki.
TIP: Karaoke is currently closed, though sit down dining is available with safe social distancing.

Open from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, and Sin City’s best place for Barbecue ever since the original debuted in January 2016, it was just prior to 11:30am that the smell of Big B’s Texas BBQ began to drift down the hallway, staff quick to arrive for what was once again an overabundance of smoked Meat, Dessert and Sides.
Named after its Pit Master, and changing the long-held belief that Las Vegas is not a Barbeque town ever since the original opened in Henderson, Big B’s Texas BBQ features the work of Brian Buechner and Natalia Badzjo, the husband and wife team taking a hands-on approach to every aspect of the operation from build-out to driving in fresh piles of wood as needed from the Lone Star State.
Available for dine-in, take-out, catering and delivery, all presented by staff clad in PPE, it was really no surprise when Macaroni and Cheese as well as Hot Links were quickly depleted, with slices of gooey Pecan or Cinnamon Apple Pie soon to follow.
Texas through and through, the aforementioned wood just one reason why Big B’s Brisket and Turkey outpace growing competition, the choice of lean versus moist generally sees the former go first at this office, though thanks to a deeply penetrating ring of smoke both live up to high standards.
Not about to forget Sin City’s best BBQ Beans, or a large Salad requested by some, suffice it to say Rolls were underutilized with several leftover, not because they aren’t good but more so as a result of the abundance of Cornbread that seems to get better and better with time.
Adding on Creamed Corn, plus recently debuted thick-cut Fried Onions, a second helping of everything proved mandatory, though even for someone with a decidedly large appetite it might be smart to stop a bit short of stuffed next time to avoid wanting an afternoon nap instead of four more hours of work.

Previously discussing Chef Marrone’s background here, time with Tao Group unequivocally involved in Asian Cuisine capable of satisfying both discerning diners and folks that typically gravitate to Panda Express, it was on-time Monday that Chef Michael Tomorsk arrived with everything necessary, professionalism and safety never in question.
Opting for old favorites from a menu that offers far more diversity than its brevity suggests, Crab Rice was predictably the first stop for many, and although the funky Fish Sauce and restrained heat were once again highly praised Graffiti Bao’s Roasted Chicken version has also developed a fan-base thanks to toasted Chiles and bits of crispy Skin.
Onward to Orange Duck, instead of more familiar Chicken, the quality of Graffiti Bao’s sourcing shows well from Protein to Produce, three styles of the Restaurant’s eponymous Buns satisfying diners on this day with the BBQ Pork a favorite for many but the Pulp Fiction referencing Royale with Cheese also pretty tough not to love.
Neglecting White Rice to save stomach capacity for better things, at least three whole Scallion Pancakes devoured over the course of an hour, Lo Mein won out over Basil Chow Fun or Crispy Chili Garlic Noodles this time while Marrone’s Braised Short Ribs with folded Bao saw two trays emptied in the course of an hour.

Located at 3555 South Durango Drive since late-2012, Tacos La Mexicana is one of many locally-owned Taquerias prone to being overlooked in Las Vegas, but after passing by twice daily for the better part of three years an order on Saturday showed why there is frequently a line of cars at the drive-thru.
Family operated from its inception, and still no advertising or social media presence, it is sharing a wall with CJ’s that guests will find Tacos La Mexicana open from 9:00am daily, its interior simple yet clean with friendly bilingual service and a kitchen visible through Plexiglas.
Available via online ordering, where a menu hung overhead at the Restaurant is thoroughly explained, it was at 11:15am sharp that a sizable order was found ready, prices nearly half that of nearby Bomb Taco yielding more than enough to satisfy the average diner for about $10.
Not pretending to be fancy, a regional map of Mexico suggesting no specific origin for well-known items prepared much like one will find south of the border, it was beginning with loaded Enchiladas that Tacos La Mexicana briefly stumbled, the flavor mostly overwhelmed by Red Sauce far better utilized on the textbook Pambazo with Bread that maintains its structural integrity around Papas con Chorizo, Sour Cream and Lettuce.
Offering several Combos alongside Lunch Specials, plus all-day Breakfast including Chilaquiles featuring crisp Chips and vibrant Green Sauce, Tacos La Mexicana’s Nachos proceed in similar fashion beneath a choice of Meats, in this case lean Carne Asada amidst a mélange of Cheeses, Vegetables and Sour Cream.
Choosing another Torta, fried Steak on fresh Bread well-executed, fans of Chipotle will find the California Burrito similar in both Ingredients and portion while freshly made Tamales and the sharable Parrillada Meal with four Meats and perfectly cooked Cactus show that Tacos La Mexicana works quickly but manages to turn out much more than “Fast Food.”
THREE AND A HALF STARS: Value priced, with a bevy of options to satisfy diverse palates, Tacos La Mexicana scores high marks for less commonly offered items such as Pambazo, Parrillada and Tamales served with speed and professionalism.
Milk & Cookies – Fresh Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peanut Milk, Ube Jam
Making an immediate impact upon opening in late-2020, dinner in December undoubtedly one of this writer’s ten best in Sin City last year, it was alongside two others that Robata En showed signs of further improvement on Thursday, service a bit tighter and several menu changes suggesting ownership is paying attention to feedback.
Featuring Cuisine by Chef Ramir Bolanos DeCastro, his years at Yonaka followed by Purple Potato displaying a diverse skill set across sweets as well as savories, it is between Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii that guests will find a contemporary space, the tables socially-distanced and safety never in question from entry to exit.
Recently adding Happy Hour, 5:00pm to 6:30pm daily featuring fifteen plates plus a handful of Beverages at bargain prices, it was after a light Amuse that dinner got started, Eggs marinated in Soy with Wasabi and Onions an entirely novel take on a familiar idea while Chicken Karaage and Pork Belly Buns are each beautifully executed at a fraction of what David Chang’s spots are charging.
Baking all Breads on-site, a fact that makes the $12 Kobe Burger even more impressive than its larger-than-anticipated size and smooth grind, those seeking Chef DeCastro’s most crave-worthy bite will find it in Blue Crab between slices of sweetened Fry Bread, though the slightly retooled Japanese Beef Tartare featuring the unexpected combination of Pineapple, Anchovy and Uni is not far behind.
Matching minimalist décor to Food that is decidedly complex, house-smoked Hamachi invigorated by Acid dazzling atop razor-thin Chips that somehow sustain big scoops, it is from the Robatayaki section that Butabara remains a favorite, though the grilled Surimi Squid is also quite good and a much better suited for light eaters than, say, “Meat Candy” placing fatty slices of Pork amidst creamy Chestnuts, Kumquats and Pecans.
Not about to pass on Foie Nabe, a seared section of Duck Liver draped atop Rice where aromatic Broth is poured prior to mixing with Hamachi, Egg and Chicken Skin, those seeking additional Poultry will find it in a juicy Roulade offered alongside Tsukune-style condiments, though Robata En’s most impressive savory remains lightly-fried Octopus walking a tightrope between earthy accoutrements and Fruit.
Already changing 3/4 of the sweets, an $8 Happy Hour Banana Tart unfortunately sold out at eight o’clock, Ramir’s made-to-order Cookies remain a must, though for those seeking something truly unlike anything else in Sin City the Pandan “Ice Cream Sandwich” is a surefire lock for 2021’s ten best Desserts.
FIVE STARS: A second visit, including the impressive Happy Hour Menu, shows Robata En Asian Kitchen And Bar to be one of Las Vegas’ best Restaurants (on Strip or off) with Chef Ramir exploring Asian ingredients in a way few others think to try, let alone execute with such finesse.
RECOMMENDED: Blue Crab Mini Buns, En Kobe Burger, Smoked Hamachi Dip, Japanese Beef Tartare, Foie Nabe, Butabara Robata, Meat Candy, Takoage, Pandan, Milk & Cookies.
AVOID: Yuzu Cream needs retooling as the Ice Cream is too hard to be properly integrated, thus magnifying a more gelatinous texture beneath.
TIP: Open 5:00pm to 10pm Tues, Wed, Thu and Sun. Till 11:00pm Fri + Sat. Omakase currently $195 for two people with a premium pre-order option also offered at $300 for two guests.

Always happy to #supportlocal with an office favorite, CRAFTkitchen once again catered the office on Wednesday, Chef Blinn predictably arriving early with all the necessary items and this time presenting attendees with a modified “Breakfast for Lunch” for the fourth time.
Recently taking on Mexican and Asian themes, but this time squarely in the Henderson hot-spot’s wheelhouse, it was almost entirely from CRAFTkitchen’s current menu that eight items were presented, savories starting with crispy Tortilla Chips topped in housemade Hatch Chile Verde, Beans and Cheese while Cobb Salad slightly deviated from the theme but still proved a big hit amongst those who specifically requested it.
Always well-portioned and fair-priced, a group of twenty-five getting their fill with plenty of leftovers packed to-go, it was alongside these that guests enjoyed two styles of Fried Chicken, Buttermilk given a kick from Jalapeno Syrup joined by Korean-Fried Strips, each with their own fluffy Waffles.
Not about to forget CRAFTkitchen’s Short Rib Hash, a signature since the Restaurant opened five years ago, those seeking sweet instead of heat were left to choose from four options, rich Chocolate Brownies making another appearance while Macaroons, Lemon Bars and bite-size Nutella Tarts all attest to Chef Blinn’s decades of experience cooking in professional kitchens from Le Cirque to Red Rock.
Also adding a box of “works in progress,” several since added to CRAFTkitchen’s Pastry Case, the Blueberry Lemon Poppyseed Muffin offers a “best-of-both-worlds” situation well worth the calories while two additional Muffins shared with staff were also well-crafted, though somewhat outshined by Jaret’s top-notch Kouign Amann currently shattering with buttery layers giving way to sweetened Cream Cheese and Cherry Compote.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone CRAFTkitchen has always gone the extra mile to assure off-site dining is every bit as delicious as inside the Restaurant on South Eastern, and although it is fun to get creative sometimes this Breakfast-for-Lunch sampling was a generous reminder of what has made Jaret and Tami’s place great from day one.
TIP: See the website for sample catering items, Family Meals and current menu, or contact the Restaurant directly with a budget and let them do what they do best.

The Pumpkin Cookie
The Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle
Always on the move, both the Restaurant’s physical location and their health-conscious Cuisine, it was for Catering that David Mozes and Peter Bastien were again called upon Monday, the owners of Bronze Café this time offering to prepare a special Thai menu instead of the usual delicious Salads and Sandwiches.
Located near Desert Shores in Summerlin, the former home of Beau Monde Bakery providing turnkey access for a Restaurant eventually intended to offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, it was from Chef Bastien’s home recipes that Lunch consisted of six trays, Fried Rice with Shrimp making fast fans thanks to familiarity while Coconut-based Curry was more slowly accepted but soon to gain raves thanks to a complex spice profile.
A change of pace from usual, the majority-Hispanic staff eyeing light and fresh Larb with skepticism before eventually loading leaves of Lettuce with fragrant ground Chicken, Meekrop found a smaller audience than did spicy slices of Beef, just as Lychee did in comparison to Mango that was devoured in minutes.
Breaking theme for Dessert, and instead serving a selection of Bronze Café classics, suffice it to say that The Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle remains one of Las Vegas’ best Cookies despite mounting competition, while the Gluten Free, Vegan-friendly Mixed Berry Muffin and Carrot Cake with Coconut Icing are so good that even a staunch carnivore won’t know the difference.
Continuing strong with the cleverly titled Loving v Virginia, a Brookie that sees both halves nicely represented, Chai Spice, Pumpkin and Chocolate Chip Cookies are soft and almost Cake-like despite also being entirely devoid of Animal products.
Mostly enjoying Salads, though the amount of Parsley in Peter’s Tabouli may exceed the threshold of some, it was after a second serving of Carrot Tzimmes that more of the Vegetable came by way of Bronze Café’s Carrot Cake, the fact that it is Vegan still shocking as is the Apple Pie that on this occasion was far more flavorful than when previously tasted at The Market.
Excited to see Baklava, presumably also Vegan as no Butter could be tasted amidst Honey and Pine Nuts, it was from here that many Bronze Café favorites took the spotlight, all of them good and in particular the Strawberry Cookie and Pumpkin Spice, but still none as delicious as the Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle that melts on the tongue slowly as served but even more beautifully after being warmed up.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, no matter where Chef Peter and David are set-up the quality has never declined, lunch on Thursday continuing to show quality and creativity bound to please those with and without dietary restrictions, whether they want to be gluttonous or eat light.
RECOMMENDED: Chicken Larb, Yellow Chicken Curry, Garlic Pepper Beef, The Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle, The Mixed Berry Muffin, The Carrot Cake, The Loving v. Virginia.

Friends with Benefits – Tomato Sauce, Burrata Cheese, Micro Arugula, Basil, Red Pepper Flake, Olive Oil, Sea Salt
Now the flagship of John and Sam’s family of pizzerias since November of 2012, with an expansive footprint including Lulu’s Bread & Breakfast, it was donning a mask that Metro Pizza on Sky Pointe was entered mere minutes after opening, Chef Decker already hard at work with six Pizzas plus three Loaves of Bread ready and waiting.
Dubbed “America’s Neighborhood Pizzeria” since the early eighties, though past and present so much more, it was with everything carefully transported home that goods were unboxed and photos snapped, complimentary table Bread still oven-warm with crisp Crust and soft center while the “Gotham” on thin, Chicago-style Crust delighted all thanks to its mélange of balance toppings.
Featuring generous portions and prices far lower than Ingredient quality or craftsmanship might dictate, Metro’s Old New York came next, the simplicity of Mozzarella Cheese, Tomato Sauce and Basil gracing fermented Dough from Cornicione to center while Chris’ Detroit Red Top utilized the same Ingredients in an entirely different manner with unprecedented lightness surrounded by a crispy Cheese lattice.
Asking Chris for one of his #instagramworthy masterpieces, and seeing Chef come through with a pair, the “better” of Roast Pork and Pickled Oniond versus creamy Burrata against a backdrop of Tomato Sauce came down to personal preference, though both had to be carefully weighed against saving stomach capacity for at least a slice – or four – of Metro’s reference-standard “86th Street” Sicilian.
FIVE STARS: Serving Las Vegas for four decades and continuously evolving the concept while slowly growing the brand it would be difficult to say anyone has contributed more to Sin City’s love of Pizza than John Arena, and although any brand featuring more than one space may suffer from inconsistency Metro sets a high standard by rewarding their old customer base with predictable greatness while Chris Decker’s creativity looks towards a new era and without ever neglecting the basics – the same synopsis as always since it warrants repeating.
RECOMMENDED: Anything offered as a special from @everythingbutanchovies Social Media feed is worth asking about. So is the 86th Street Square Pie. And, really, any of the Pizzas.

Having previously discussed Johnny C’s Diner here, plus ten faultless catering gigs and the office Holiday Dinner, it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for another #supportlocal Lunch on Wednesday, Chef Sam Brooks arriving precisely on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.
All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost more than warranted by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from the current menu that lunch was constructed, Johnny’s Wedge Salad rivaling any top-tier Steakhouse thanks to ripe Tomatoes, Blue Cheese, Onions and plenty of Bacon.
Next satisfying a craving with for fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits, arguably Sin City’s best even before a scoop of peppered Pork Gravy, it was on the heels of four crisp and juicy Wings plus signature Mash Browns that Dessert consisted of Bread dipped in Batter and caramelized with sides of Vanilla Whipped Cream and housemade Blueberry Compote ready to be added in as small or large a portion as desired.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.
RECOMMENDED: Iceberg Wedge Salad, Biscuits N Gravy, Mash Browns, Potato Chips, Cubano Sandwich, Crème Brulee French Toast.
