Unquestionably Las Vegas’ top choice for French Pastry over the past five years, Rosallie Le French Café continues to operate with strict safety measures amidst the pandemic, and just like prior a #supportlocal Breakfast on Friday saw Christophe assemble a remarkable spread of items both sweet and savory.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, from the day Jonathan Pluvinet opened Rosallie on South Rainbow the need to visit Las Vegas Blvd for great French Pastry vanished, and although competition has sprouted up none are in the same class as what he and former Jean-Philippe maestro Christophe are baking daily.
RECOMMENDED: Walnut Tart, Almond Croissant, Caramel Cherry Almond Tart, Lemon Meringue Pie, Nutella Brioche, Cherry Danish, Apple Croustade.
AVOID: N/A.
TIP: Currently 7a-3p daily. Call or e-mail Info@rosallie.com ahead for pre-orders or catering and consider Yelp! (Grubhub) on-line delivery for smaller orders if you can’t make it to the store.

Officially opened on January 22nd, and already highly acclaimed by numerous sources for “East Coast” Italian and “Traditional” Fare, it was as a party of five that dinner was enjoyed at Al Solito Posto on Saturday, the Governor’s 35% capacity mandate doing little to stymie guests’ excitement for a return to normalcy.
Located in the former Brio Italian Grill at Tivoli Village, Chef James Trees’ Ada’s officially re-opening its doors on the very same night, Al Solito Posto features the talents of Chefs Emily Brubaker and Keris Kuwana, an open kitchen with wood-burning oven also host to several Strip-veterans working fast and efficient.
Offering what will eventually be approximately 280 seats, one hundred outside on a patio overlooking the Tivoli Village fountain, guests are greeted inside a foyer lined with glass vessels, the interior widely spanning with a sizable piece of craftwork lining the dining room wall opposite a lounge with top-shelf booze and its own Bar menu.
Called more “grown-up” by ownership, though an excessive decibel level at even limited capacity suggests older diners will be challenged to hear or be heard, it was at one of several large tables that guests were greeted by genial staff, Cocktails soon arriving along with complimentary housemade Focaccia plus Garlic Herb Olive Oil mixed by a server.
Translated as “At the Usual Place,” though a kitchen led by Joel Robuchon alumni assures Food that is a step up from the typical “Red Sauce” joint, Appetizers consist of Soups, Salads and Antipasti, the Fried Burrata an ingenious riff on traditional Mozzarella Sticks that comes across extra creamy with a bit of heat and an herbaceous finish.
Utilizing fresh Ingredients across the board, prices ranging $11-$16 for Apps and $20-$64 for Entrees still a veritable bargain despite outpacing the space’s prior occupant, additional starters included a crispy Chicago-style Tavern Pie from the Bar, plus Meatballs smaller and denser than those at Esther’s Kitchen and Grilled Octopus that maintains a bit of snap amidst spicy Sauce diners will want to sop up with slices of housemade Sourdough.
Already doing big volume, Chef Brubaker diligently running the pass for every savory across a two-hour meal, course two went all-in on Pasta – the Rigatoni alla Vodka cooked perfect al dente and not so heated as Carbone’s famous version while “Emily’s Sunday Gravy” is rich and indulgent with house Spaghetti coiled next to Shortrib, Veal and Meatballs.
Less impressed by Conchiglie Al Pesto, the “Melted Tomato” not visible and each bite seemingly more grassy than the last, better bites are found in rich Bolognese not only atop ribbons of Pappardelle, but also in and around wood-fired Pasta Sheets that comprise Las Vegas’ best Lasagna.
Clearly doing a lot of R&D during a year of shutdowns, Trees’ suggesting “100+ Pans of Lasagna” during a tableside visit, Mushroom Risotto is another standout thanks to Rice with a bit of tooth and plenty of Cheese to counter an earthy mélange of Fungus.
Omitting Secondi this time, and instead going all-in on Dolci from LEV Executive Pastry Chef Keris Kuwana, suffice it to say that Cheesecake and Gelato are fine for those seeking the usual, while the Tiramisu with a tableside Espresso pour is light, boozy and a substantial upgrade from the usual slices found around town.
Not ignoring the success of Trees’ Budino from Esther’s Kitchen, the Pudding at Al Solito Posto instead thick Chocolate with Berries and Nuts, those seeking a showstopper are encouraged to choose between Italian Rainbow Cake that is more like Birthday Cake than the Italian Tricolor “Cookie” or an Apple Crostata that is texturally masterful, the size of a whole Pie and served piping hot with a side of Vanilla Gelato waiting to be melted on top.
FOUR STARS: Already cooking better traditional Italian Cuisine than almost anywhere in town, Al Solito Posto may just be exactly what Tivoli Village and off-Strip Las Vegas needs right now, and although the popularity of such an enormous spot will only continue to grow as the Pandemic subsides this also means that so too will the already substantial volume, but thanks to such a talented team one must assume the kitchen will be able to keep up.
RECOMMENDED: Grilled Octopus, Fried Burrata Scarpetta, Pappardelle Bolognese, Mushroom Risotto, Emily’s Sunday Gravy, Lasagna Al Forno, Tiramisu, Apple Crostata.
AVOID: Meatballs were overworked, Conchiglie Al Pesto was too herbal with no nuance.
TIP: Closed Monday. 5:00pm until 10:00pm Monday through Thursday, 5:00pm until 11:00pm Friday and Saturday, 4:00pm until 10:00pm Sunday.

Opened in July 2019 with a promise of single origin Beans and extraordinary service The Coffee Class has finally found its audience, record numbers on weekdays plus a socially-distanced “full house” on weekends attesting to the quality of Kyle Cunningham’s concept.
A passion project for the local real estate professional, who can frequently be found on-site educating staff and greeting customers, it is in consultation with Chef Beth Ryan-Small that the cozy yet upscale space seeks to give guests an all-day experience, the menu focused mostly on Breakfast items but also featuring everything from Quiche and Panini to Desserts and several items mindful of guests’ dietary preferences.
Sleek and light in terms of decor, with a covered outdoor patio up front and recently-added private dining space in back, it was around 11:00am that The Coffee Class was found with all seats occupied, its Pastry case full of temptation while a digital display suggests choices both savory and sweet.
Fluid in terms of service, friendly Baristas behind high-end machinery charged with a variety of tasks ranging from Pour-Over and Espresso to Tea service, it was after lengthy debate that a Black Walnut Latte was requested, its smoothness particularly noteworthy atop Milk-subdued notes of housemade Syrup.
Taking an outdoor seat after ordering, Chef Ryan-Small and team visibly preparing items fresh inside The Coffee Class’ kitchen, it was not long before a Pastry Board arrived, two styles of Poptart virtually indistinguishable in terms of texture even though one is Vegan and Gluten Free while the same can be said of Cookies including Beth’s exceptional “Triple Chocolate” round upgraded by Butterscotch.
Next taking a look at two types of Biscuits, the first a reference-standard Buttermilk version with housemade Butter and Jam, those eschewing Animal-products will be happy to know The Coffee Class also offers a pretty impressive Vegan version complete with peppery Gravy equally thick as any containing Sausage.
Continuing on with Sandwiches, a half-dozen pressed-Paninis currently highlighted by Bacon, Ham or both juxtaposing Eggs and Cheese, it is actually Creamed Spinach that sets Beth’s Breakfast option apart while grilled Chicken gets an upgrade from housemade Tomato Jam and Garlic-Herb Butter.
Onward next to this month’s Quiche, Smoked Salmon with Herbs and Cream Cheese eating lighter than one would guess inside a golden Crust, suffice it to say that housemade Paste keeps The Coffee Class’ Almond Croissant less sugary than many, though the seasonal Fruit Pie, Scone or extra-fudgy Triple Chocolate Brownie are still far more noteworthy.
FOUR AND A HALF STARS: Approaching their two-year anniversary at 8878 South Eastern Avenue, and picking up steam amidst the Pandemic, The Coffee Class pairs well-sourced Beans with a menu from Chef Beth Ryan-Small for one of the city’s best under-the-radar experiences.
Arguably Las Vegas’ hardest working Chef, particularly since the onset of COVID-19, it was to kick-off 2021’s #supportlocal lunch program that Marc Marrone’s Gemma Gemma’s Square Pies were ordered, and once again a combination of passion, precision and Ingredient quality was on display from beginning to end.
Officially launched August 6th 2020, online ordering now offered Monday through Sunday for pick-up or delivery from 7355 South Buffalo Drive, Gemma Gemma’s is a tribute to Marrone’s late-grandmother Anita Gemma Marrone while the cartoon Pizzaiolo on each box pays homage to Marc’s father, with whom he grew up making Pizzas as a child.
Citing Gemma Gemma as the person who inspired his culinary career, it is at a price-point similar to that of Graffiti Bao that Marrone has built a menu of Pies, Sandwiches, Salads and Appetizers, everything including Bread made in-house just as it is at Graffiti Bao.
Kicking things off with 6” “Signature Pies,” each built atop 72-hour fermented Dough that eats light with a crispy edge not unlike Detroit-style, Gemma Gemma’s current menu features four varieties customizable to guest preferences, the Vodka Sauce beneath crisp Pepperoni while The Ol’ Sausage and Bianco each balance a hefty allotment of Toppings such that every bite is different while diverse flavors work in harmony.
Also catering a great Chop Salad, spicy Pork and cubes of Cheese dotting fresh Veggies, Garlic Parm Wings come large and meaty like those from Graffiti Bao while $8 Italian “Torpedos” topped with Roast Pork are succulent and well-seasoned amidst their accoutrements on fluffy Hoagie Rolls amicable to soaking up all the Juices.
Adding a special Pesto Pie to this order, medium-thick Prosciutto a bonus, be sure not to sleep on Marc’s Bronx-based “Chop Cheese” with Ground Beef, Cheddar, Onions and Pickles – but be sure to save a bit of room for Sin City’s best Cannoli.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Gemma Gemma’s Square Pies only gets better and better with each visit.
RECOMMENDED: Bronx Chop Salad, Vodka Pep Pie, Bianco Pie, Chop Cheese Torpedo, Roast Pork Torpedo, Cannoli.

The Loving v. Virginia – The Legal Marriage between a Cookie and a Brownie
The Sugar Free Cherry Turnover
The S’Mores Turnover
Having enjoyed David Mozes’ and Chef Peter Bastien’s Bronze Café at The Center, The Market and Juice Stars, it was to #supportlocal that lunch was catered from their North Buffalo location on Monday, a collection of new items predictably arriving on time with plenty of plates and utensils that allowed staff to enjoy every second of their lunch hour.
Located near Desert Shores in Summerlin, the former home of Beau Monde Bakery providing turnkey access for a Restaurant eventually intended to offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, it is focused on health-conscious and diet-friendly fare that many guests began with Salad, The Negocio a textural phenomenon that leans Latin while Bacon Chicken Chop Chop lives up to its name over Romaine with housemade Ranch Dressing.
Continuing with “Sammiches,” the California Turkey gone quickly followed by an all-new Breakfast trifecta on a sliced Pretzel Roll, suffice it to say that only big fans of Sauerkraut need delve into Bronze Café’s “Reubenesque” while Albacore Tuna with added Cheese fares better than the competition thanks to springy Bread and Clover Sprouts.
Lucky to also receive a daily special, Vegan Chick’n, Red Bell Peppers and Mushrooms tucked inside flaky Puff Pastry, those seeking a sweeter Turnover will find it in either the recently-debuted S’mores or Sugar-Free, Diabetic-friendly Cherry.
Happy to receive a glut of Desserts, all Vegan and The Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle still Las Vegas’ best Cookie despite mounting competition, those missing Beau Monde’s gluten-free offerings will be happy to know both the Banana Flax Cake is made without any Wheat protein, as too is a fully loaded Carrot Cake that has only gotten better with time.
Continuing strong with the cleverly titled Loving v Virginia, a Brookie that sees both halves nicely textured, Chai Spice Cookies remain soft and almost Cake-like while the Lemon Blueberry Scone is delicate and “buttery” despite the lack of Butter, Milk or Eggs.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, no matter where Chef Peter and David are set-up the quality has never declined, lunch on Thursday continuing to show quality and creativity bound to please those with and without dietary restrictions, whether they want to be gluttonous or eat light.

Traditional Mille Feuille – Caramelized Puff Pastry, Vanilla Pastry Cream, Strawberries
Some say the best Restaurants are those that a guest wants to revisit even before leaving, and over the course of twenty-three meals served across six years Bardot Brasserie has redefined “the best,” not only in terms of Food but setting and service that all continue to shine under the direction of Chef Nick Dugan.
Operating in a whole new era, PPE and Social Distancing joined by the former Michael Mina Restaurant Chef since reopening, it was at 11:30am Saturday that Aria’s second floor was found fairly quiet, a familiar set of eyes and voice greeting six diners who were seated comfortably in the natural light of Bardot’s makeshift “patio.”
Recently celebrating anniversary number six, no small feat in a city where turnover is constant, it was with confirmation of no allergies or intolerances that Carte Blanche was deferred to a team that has earned unwavering trust, The Strip’s best Baguette predictably arriving first – warm and crunchy with soft Salted Butter on the side.
Now settled into Chef Dugan’s style, time spent with Gavin Kaysen at Bellecour before joining Michael Mina seeing an almost seamless transition from Chef Josh Smith’s new-French classics, course one featured a familiar trio of shared Appetizers, Nick’s riff on Escargots en Croute essentially a Pot Pie with Snails cooked in herbaceous green Sauce while Deviled Eggs and House-smoked Salmon each found themselves upgraded by a dollop of Osetra Caviar.
Continuing with three re-tooled plates, the Raisin Curl absent from a Pastry Basket featuring Sin City’s best Canelé and Kouign Amann, fans of Bardot’s Buckwheat Beignets will no longer find them alongside an otherwise beautiful Fruit Plate while the silky Foie Gras Parfait has temporarily been replaced by a textbook Terrine studded in Black Truffles.
At this point taking the opportunity to showcase some new menu items, an Omelette matching Gruyere to Tuber melanosporum both fluffy and aromatic, Vegetarians will also find lots to love about high-walled Quiche while carnivores may instead sink their teeth into Shortrib Has featuring Prime Beef, Eggs, crispy Potatoes and Mushrooms.
Slightly retooling Bardot’s Breakfast Sandwich, its housemade Sausage and English Muffin still outpacing any other in town, those seeking something slightly more elegant should seek out Chef Nick’s Dungeness Benedict featuring Orange-Yolk Eggs and Sauce Choron in a Puff Pastry basket.
Not about to miss the famous French Toast, a thick wedge arriving with its plus-size quenelle of Vanilla Cream and Almond Brittle plus three slices of Foie Gras, those who previously thought Bardot’s Macaron “too rich” will be thrilled to find it lightened by way of Gianduja Chocolate and a bit of Citrus while the Crème Breule and Mille Feuille have reverted to classic Vanilla while maintaining their reference-standard textures.
FIVE STARS: Having repeatedly challenged fellow gourmands to name a better Bistro, Brasserie or Café in North America than Bardot none have yet stood up to the task, and while some may believe that a Restaurant doing big volume cannot possibly compete with a place that seats fifty I’ll simply say I’ve done the legwork and this one does.
RECOMMENDED: Kouign Amann, Canelé de Bordeaux, Escargots en Croute, Hudson Valley Foie Gras Terrine, Dungeness Crab Benedict, Omelette aux Fines Herbes, Bardot Breakfast Sandwich, French Toast, Mille Feuille, Chocolate Macaron.
AVOID: N/A.

Founded in Humboldt County California, there is a good chance Food Network fans first heard about Humboldt Sweets on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but since late-2019 the Bakery owned by Tammy and Tony Pichulo has called Henderson home after re-opening its doors inside Coronado Canyons Center at the corner of Green Valley and Horizon Ridge Parkway.
Family-owned and operated, Tammy responsible for the recipes with daughter Hannah frequently offering a helping hand, it is amidst COVID-19 restrictions that Humboldt Sweets currently operates from 8:00am until 3:00pm Thursday through Sunday, though early arrival is recommended as more popular items tend to sell out quickly.
Already baking well before sunrise, better-than-average Ingredients and plus-size portions commanding prices that run a bit higher than other like-concepts, small batches combine with classic technique to yield several-dozen choices that change daily, though the now-famous Cinnamon Roll and Caramel Pecan cousin are universally present and worth every cent/calorie thanks to soft spirals sopping with Butter.
Relocated to the Las Vegas suburb as it is Tony’s home town, and making quick fans of locals with everything from Quiche to Candy, additional seasonal treats include rustic Cheesecake Squares topped in hand-whipped Cream as well as texturally masterful Cookies that are delicious room-temperature but even better after 10-seconds in the microwave.
Not a place to count calories, but well-suited for families or friends looking to share something sweet, consider it fortunate if Tammy’s Banana Cake is still available after 10:00am, and speaking of Cake, do not pass on what may just be the Valley’s best Carrot version thanks to bold spices and plenty of Walnuts beneath a thin layer of sweet yet tangy Cream Cheese.
FOUR AND A HALF STARS: Currently operating as take-out only, and just four days a week, folks in Las Vegas proper will need to make a special effort to visit Humboldt Sweets, though based on these five items (and five others prior) the time, cost and calories are justified with high hopes that additional hours will become available soon.
Shuttered May 24th, and reopened 9 months later at 1450 West Horizon Ridge Pkwy, it would be hard to name a worse overall dining experience than dinner at Served.
Known for globally-influenced Cuisine, and enjoyed previously at Brunch, the recent re-location finds owner Matt Meyer inhabiting a substantially larger space, the former TATA Bistro as yet unfinished, dark and drab with a menu that lacks any semblance of focus.
Is it Asian? Peruvian? American or French? Who has Chef Meyer ever worked for to take on such a project? The only real obvious answer is that he has quickly bitten off more than he can chew with sloppy Lomo Saltado and Miso Carbonara featuring burned Pork Belly alongside thick Pasta with clumpy Cream-based Sauce.
Don’t like it? Too bad. Chef will call you names before admitting errors, per multiple accounts including this writer who was called as “Asshole” for offering feedback.

Open from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, and Sin City’s best place for Barbecue ever since the original debuted in January 2016, it was just prior to 11:30am that the smell of Big B’s Texas BBQ began to drift down the hallway, staff quick to arrive for what was once again an overabundance of smoked Meat and Sides.
Texas through and through, wood driven in from The Lone Star State just one reason why Big B’s Brisket, Links and Turkey outpace growing competition, it was due to budget limits that this lunch was more limited than many, though thanks to Natalia and Brian everything went perfectly, just as it has since the beginning.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it was a disastrous lunch from Famous Dave’s that got the #supportlocal idea going in May of 2018, Big B’s Texas BBQ immediately stepping up and becoming a go-to both then and now with the experience never less than exemplary.

Having previously discussed Johnny C’s Diner here, plus eleven faultless catering gigs and the office Holiday Dinner, it was an honor to call on Chef Church and his team for another #supportlocal Lunch on Monday, Chef Church arriving precisely on time with a bounty of items carefully packed and temperature appropriate from fifteen minutes away.
All-in approximately $20 per diner, a cost more than warranted by quality Produce and portions that guaranteed several staff members also went home with dinner, it was from the current menu that lunch was constructed, Johnny’s Wedge Salad rivaling any top-tier Steakhouse thanks to ripe Tomatoes, Blue Cheese, Onions and Bacon.
Diving next into two Sandwiches, enjoyed alongside a handful of Johnny C’s buttery Potato Chips, Johnny’s housemade Pickles continue to make all the difference for a Cubano on par with any in Las Vegas, though the “I Need a Hero Sandwich” also receives raves thanks to impeccable balance despite over a dozen Ingredients.
Next satisfying a craving with for fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits, arguably Sin City’s best even before a scoop of peppered Pork Gravy, it was on the heels of Mel’s Macaroni and Cheese plus the gloriously atypical Grilled Cheese Sandwich that Dessert consisted of Johnny’s family-recipe Orange Cake that is light and moist with bright Citrus in every bite.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Johnny C’s combination of products and talent is nothing short of remarkable while the price-point is an undeniable bargain for quality Cuisine capable of pleasing a wide range of palates.

Unquestionably Las Vegas’ top choice for French Pastry over the past 5+ years, Rosallie Le French Café continues to operate with strict safety measures amidst the pandemic, and just like prior a #supportlocal Breakfast on Friday saw Christophe assemble a remarkable spread of items both sweet and savory.
Easily arranged through owner Jonathan Pluvinet via ‘Le French Café’s’ e-mail, a budget of $20 per guest yielding enough quality cuisine and Coffee to feed twice the office’s number of staff, it was by 7:10am that all items were delivered and carefully arranged, Sandwiches still warm as were several Pastries.
Also serving Salad and Quiche, Rosallie’s Salade Fraiche an office favorite amongst those who strive to eat healthy, it was after indulging in an all-Butter Crust and filled with Bacon, Potatoes and melted Tartiflette Cheese that a French Toast Breakfast Sandwich was also enjoyed thanks to golden Brioche cradling Meat, Mozzarella and a touch of Syrup.
Making short work of Jonathan’s World class Walnut Tarte, there was no delay in devouring an Almond Croissant still-oven-fresh and better than most in Europe, while the version enhanced by Raspberries was also delicious.
Happy to see two more slices of Brioche, Bostock with housemade Almond Paste and Blueberries or Caramel Apples baked-in, a new Pie has joined Rosallie’s collection in the form of Raspberry Puree beneath a Pasty lattice while Cherries have finally returned atop Christophe’s flaky Danish.
Onward with Cakes and Tarts, several shared with staff, housemade Lemon Curd finds a match in airy Meringue while Fruit-topped Custard and sliced Pears with Almonds exhibit traditional elegance also witnessed in an Espresso-soaked Opera.
Finishing with a sized-up Cinnamon Roll, laminated Dough taking the American favorite in an entirely new direction, fans of Red Velvet Cake will find Rosallie’s version far less sweet than most, its Cocoa-rich Sponge instead accented by thin ribbons of Cream Cheese Icing and a layer of fresh Fruit.

Always happy to #supportlocal with an office favorite, CRAFTkitchen once again catered lunch on Wednesday, Chef Blinn predictably arriving early with all the necessary items and this time presenting attendees with a Latin-themed meal featuring both classics and novelties.
By no means a “Mexican” Restaurant, but nonetheless offering Meats such as Carnitas and Chorizo daily as part of Omelets, Bennys and more, it was around 11:20am that Jaret arrived porting several trays and bowls all maintained at appropriate temperatures, a build-your-own Taco bar particularly impressive thanks to condiments including housemade Guacamole, Lime Tortilla Chips, Pico de Gallo and Salsa.
Always well-portioned and fair-priced, a group of twenty-five getting their fill with plenty of leftovers packed to-go, it was beginning with aforementioned Tacos that several Hispanic employees praised both Tinga-style Chicken and slowly simmered Pork, the light acidity of each pairing nicely with mashed Avocados bright with Garlic plus julienned Radish, diced Onions and more.
Adding extra Guacamole this time, and skipping Flour Tortillas in favor of twice as many Corn, Elote Dip has finally earned its place amongst dishes employees request by name, all the flavors of Street Corn delivered amidst the texture of Korean Corn Cheese while CRAFTkitchen’s Seasoned Rice and crispy Potatoes also performed admirably.
Breaking theme for Dessert, a platter of Coconut Macaroons and Lemon Bars receiving universal praise, it was as an added bonus that Cheesecake arrived alongside Chef Blinn’s city-best Carrot Cake, the base lighter than most yet a perfect match for the sweet and tangy Frosting.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone CRAFTkitchen has always gone the extra mile to assure off-site dining is every bit as delicious as inside the Restaurant on South Eastern, and in the era post-COVID 19 it will be that same dedication which draws guests back, reminding everyone of what made Jaret and Tami’s place great to begin with.
Opened in 2018, and the only relevant option for Spanish Cuisine since that time, Las Vegas has benefitted tremendously from the presence of EDO Gastro Tapas & Wine in the plaza on the corner of South Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.
Inspired by Catalonian traditions, Chef Oscar Amador Edo’s upbringing in Barcelona gifting him with a respect for diverse Ingredients and an ability to craft poignant bites that highlight rather than hide them, it was as a party of two that guests were accommodated along a banquet near the kitchen, GM Roberto Liendo charged with creating a Menu Degustacion including both regularly offered items and nightly inspirations.
An acronym for “Extra Day Off,” though EDO itself is open from 5pm until 9pm daily with safe social distancing, it was with 35% of the Restaurant’s other 34 seats full by 7:30 on a Tuesday that things were underway quickly, a glass of Cava pairing well with vibrant Gazpacho as well as creamy Hen Eggs topped with a quartet from Fish including Kaluga Caviar.
Eye-opening for first-timers, and respite for anyone who finds American “Tapas” sorely lacking after multiple visits to Spain, what arrived next can best be described as seven bites in one, Edo’s Chilled Shellfish finding each selection individually garnished such that Lobster, Scallops and Clams each stand out while the rest most certainly hold their own.
Weaving traditional to modern in a manner not dissimilar from Jose Andres or even the Adria brothers, imported Charcuterie atop Puffed Bread lingering long after a single bite, the Big Eye Tuna Rosette takes flight thanks to Peruvian “Tiger’s Milk” while Foie Gras Torchon presents silky smooth alongside Bread, Tomato Jam and fragrant Foam.
Continuing with two signatures, EDO’s “Green Tartare” delightful and entirely Vegan, fans will be happy to know that Chef Oscar’s Spanish Bikini remains unparalleled while an all new “Deconstructed” Spanish Tortilla looks like something one might find at Enigma in Barcelona and tastes better with each progressive spoonful.
Blessed by a bounty of late-season Truffles, in this case Spanish but still plenty aromatic, Artichokes found themselves enhanced by dueling imported Meats while the Beef Rossini special is highlighted by thick shaving atop Seared Duck Liver, Buttery Potatoes, American Wagyu and flawless Bordelaise.
Offered one more savory to finish, creamy Rice with roasted Mushrooms and nutty-sweet Cheese arguably the evening’s best dish, Dessert was again a graciously light signature with housemade “Popcorn Cream” a brilliant foil to frozen Strawberries.
FIVE STARS: Perhaps not as “fancy” as the Michelin starred Celebrity spots, Chef Oscar Amador continues to create bold and balanced plates both traditional and modern while service led by Roberto Liendo contributes to a truly world-class experience.

Serving Las Vegas for over forty years one might well assume Metro Pizza has the delivery game down to a science, and even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic John Arena and Sam Facchini’s Pizzeria remains irreproachable in terms of customer service.
Featuring locations North, South, East and West, with another soon to come at the Convention Center, it was minutes prior to 11:30am that delivery arrived porting Food, utensils, plates and condiments, each carefully packaged such that Salad and Desserts were chilled with everything else piping-hot.
Suitable for almost any budget, though late-2019 changes have created a more concise menu, it was focused on old favorites that seven Pies plus Sausage & Peppers, Salad and Dessert were received for under $15 per guest, the all-inclusive cost predictably yielding enough for all plus an assortment of leftovers.
Now the sixteenth time delivering to this office, in addition to a dozen or more visits to locations on Decatur, Horizon Ridge or Sky Pointe, it was beginning with Salad that many once again praised Metro’s duo of housemade Dressings, though those more concerned with eating while Food was still temperature appropriate predictably went straight for familiar Pepperoni or the “Zamboni” Pizza complete with two Meats, Roasted Peppers and a generous drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey.
Moving next to Old New York, a classic trio on voluptuous Crust, several staff took a chance on Metro’s “Milano” with added Sausage while the “Triple Play” beneath three-times the Meat stood no chance as crispy rectangular Slices were quickly devoured.
Not about to pass by 86th Street, the cold-fermented Sicilian remaining defiantly light despite its thickness even after traveling ten miles, the offering of “Brooklyn Jr.” allowed those who inexplicably “don’t like” Pepperoni to try America’s best Sicilian with Mushrooms while two Pepperoni Pies including a February heart-shape special also disappeared within the hour.
Finishing with Metro Pizza’s Cannoli, a dozen filled-to-order Cannoli, suffice it to say that Metro remains Las Vegas’ best Pizzeria entering 2021, and despite mounting competition the gap only seems to be widening.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone there is a reason John and Sam have been successfully serving Las Vegas for so long, a good part of it skill and doing things the right way, but also by focusing on the customer to deliver on their promises no matter how big or small the budget.
Market Citrus – Yuzu Cream, White Chocolate, Tropical Fruit
Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake – Vanilla Ice Cream
New York-style Cheesecake – Sour Cherry Sorbet
Last visited shortly after celebrating a decade on Aria’s second floor, before COVID-19 altered the face of dining out forever, it was alongside five others that the first visit to Jean Georges Steakhouse in thirteen months showed Chef Griffin and his team executing at an unparalleled level.
Led by Chef Griffin since 2015, including a renovation that upgraded décor and delivery of pristine Proteins and Produce, guests entering Jean Georges Steakhouse are greeted first at a podium before being led to spot-lit tables, the mood upscale but never stuffy while prices track similar to other similar Restaurants that feature far less creative cuisine.
Decorated in gold, and currently offering a somewhat limited menu via QR Code, it was at two tables in the Private Dining Room that carte blanche was deferred to the kitchen, Wine and Cocktails quickly followed by buttery Loaves of Brioche and familiar appetizers such as Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp, Wagyu Carpaccio and sliced Fish draped atop pan-seared Rice.
Using Salad as a segue to grilled Meats, the iconic Hearts of Palm and Tomatoes praised by all for its brightness while a simple Caesar and vibrant Citrus Salad also performed well, it was on a large central board the two full Bones of Marrow soon arrived with grilled Prawns, Rib Cap and F1 Wagyu, the hybrid buttery and rich which thus relegated Jean Georges quartet of Sauces mostly irrelevant, no matter how good.
Omitting the Wagyu Brisket until things are back to “normal,” Colorado Lamb standing in nicely, no guest should leave Jean Georges without a taste of the city’s best Fried Chicken, and if in season also the crispy Brussels Sprouts with Avocado and Balsamic.
Refreshing the palate between bites with Mushrooms and Potatoes, the latter particularly indulgent, Dessert saw nothing but old favorites down the line, Chef Vongerichten’s Chocolate Cake served with tableside theatrics and followed by Cheesecake plus photo-friendly Citrus and a special request for one diner celebrating his Birthday.
FIVE STARS: A recurring favorite for special occasions, and on any given night Las Vegas’ best Steakhouse, Jean Georges Steakhouse continues to shine as a result of Ingredient sourcing and Chef Griffin’s cooking with no signs of slowing in terms of quality or creativity.
RECOMMENDED: Japanese Wagyu Carpaccio, Tomato Salad, 6oz F1 Wagyu Filet, Bone Marrow, Double Lamb Chops, U4 Salt Water Prawns, Crunchy Organic Chicken, Caramelized Brussels Sprouts, Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes.
AVOID: N/A…but Dessert without the Market Apple Pie feels wrong.
TIP: Online Menu is currently up-to-date.

Now a part of Sin City since August of 2015, Jonathan Pluvinet’s transformation of the former 7-Eleven into ‘Le French Café’ a tale of skill and determination that has since seen him open a second location outside of Orlando, guests entering Rosallie now will find safe social distancing and PPE-use in practice, plus a bounty of old and new favorites from lead Baker and General Manager Christophe.
Still Las Vegas’ premier bakery for French Pastry, and even better when dining amidst Chef Pluvinet’s handmade furniture and décor, Saturday before Valentine’s Day found the space filled to Nevada’s current capacity while guests enjoyed a wide range of Salads, Sandwiches, Tartines and Viennoiseries.
Festively decorated, with a small pop-up of local goods near the door, it was alongside hand-blended Coffee that Brunch got started, Florida’s “French Breakfast Board” replacing the French Toast Sandwich in a more elaborate fashion while L’Americaine Tartine shined thanks to laminated Dough beneath Mozzarella Cheese, a runny Egg and Honey Cured Bacon.
Assuredly a Café in the French sense, an atmosphere conducive to conversation, work or relaxation found throughout divided spaces including a library and private room, those looking for the 702’s best Croissants need look no further than those baked by Jonathan and his family since 1983, the hiring of former Jean-Philippe employees only improving versions such as Almond and Almond Raspberry made with hand-ground Nuts instead of Frangipane.
No less show-stopping in terms of Tartes and Pies, the Valley’s only known version featuring Walnuts but one example of Pluvinet’s respect for French tradition, daily specials included decorative loaves of Brioche as well as smaller, sweet Breads featuring Nutella or Jam.
Never missing Blueberry-studded Bostock when available, Valentine’s Day seemed as good an excuse as ever to indulge in Chocolate for Breakfast, the Pain au Chocolat an old standby while Christophe’s laminated Twist with melted interior and crunchy pearls on top is a textural masterpiece.
FIVE STARS: From the day Jonathan Pluvinet opened Rosallie on South Rainbow the need to visit Las Vegas Blvd for great French Pastry vanished, and although competition has sprouted up none are in the same class as what he and former Jean-Philippe maestro Christophe are baking daily.
RECOMMENDED: Everything.
AVOID: N/A.
TIP: Follow @rosallielefrenchcafe on Social Media for specials at both locations. Las Vegas currently 7:00a-3:00p daily.

Now a regular part of the lunch rotation, former Estiatorio Milos Chef Nikos Georgousis and Girair ‘Jerry’ Goumroian of Henderson’s The Great Greek all-but rescuing the plaza on Rainbow at Tropicana in early 2017, it was amidst COVID-19 precautions that catering was ordered on Wednesday, and difficult as it may seem to believe these guys just keep getting better.
Nothing less than an Off-Strip sensation since opening its doors, and pivoting nicely to off-site dining during the pandemic, guests may now opt for dine-in or take-out, Meraki’s servings always more than generous and prices so affordable that one sometimes wonders how the Restaurant is even making a profit.
Defined as “doing something with soul, creativity and love,” a spirit embodied by courteous employees taking all necessary precautions, it was at precisely 11:30am that Jerry arrived with several easy-stacking boxes containing temperature-control trays, this simple extra step guaranteeing Food is indistinguishable from that served inside the Restaurant.
Serving a diverse crowd on this occasion, but doing so with an impressive spread of Proteins, Produce and imported Ingredients, Hummus remains a highlight in terms of taste and texture while Keftedakia, or Greek-style Meatballs, earned praise for bold flavors and a smooth grind with slight char accentuating the Herbs, Ouzo and Citrus.
This time finding Feta atop Meraki’s Greek Salad, a problem for some staff that nonetheless saw both Olives and Yellow Peppers devoured quickly, Greek Rice also received high praise for its fluffiness and flavor while the Gyro kit allowed ample customization of marinated Chicken with Tomatoes, Lettuce, Onion and tangy Tzatziki made with “authentic” Greek Yogurt.
Happy to find no shortage of Pita, soft and warm rounds gratuitously slathered with dueling Spreads including herbaceous Melizanosalata, Vegetarians were further treated to crisp and oilless Potatoes lightly perfumed by Herbs or two-bite Falafel that are light but toothsome and fragrant with Garlic as well as Cilantro.
Not forgetting Dessert, still-warm Galaktoboureko featuring Citrus Semolina Custard amidst Phyllo Dough still a personal favorite, Honey-soaked Baklava rife with Walnuts is also highly recommended and arguably the best in Sin City.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Meraki Greek Grill offers budget-friendly, fresh and well-crafted Fare with impeccable customer service, Girair and his team’s attention to detail making Meraki Las Vegas’ premier off-Strip spot for Mediterranean cuisine for the last four years.
TIP: Open 11-9 Tuesday through Saturday and until 8pm on Sunday. Full menu for on-site dining, takeout and catering accurate per the website. Follow on Social Media @merakigreeklv for specials.

Located at 1040 East Flamingo Road, an area once dense with Indian Restaurants and UNLV students, it was late 2017 that owner Ulzan Mehta merged India Oven and India Masala to become India Oven Masala Bar & Grill, the interior one of Las Vegas’ most elegant and the combination of dishes representing North and South India offering a great deal of diversity.
Not far from Maryland Parkway and the National Atomic Testing Museum, COVID-19 altering not only the culinary landscape but India Oven Masala’s once-popular Buffet, it was for the first time in over a year that catering was requested across town on Monday, the spread for 25 guests arriving on-time, temperature appropriate and complete with all seviceware, plates and utensils.
Happy to let the accountant-turned-cook concoct a menu, four prior events pleasing a variety of guests, it was with bold smells perfuming the office that attendees gathered plates and perused options before selecting, recognizable items such as Kebobs, Naan and Rice predictably going first while Samosas also proved popular thanks to both their familiarity and bold taste.
Slower to accept Saag Paneer, its visual appeal always in question even though the combination of springy Cheese and Spinach is unquestionably delicious, it was no surprise that Butter Chicken many mistakenly called Tikka Masala also went quickly, the brightness of Coriander particularly noteworthy while creamy Gravy helped sell many on Bone-In Goat Korma.
Requesting no Daal on this visit, but instead golden Pakora that are good on their own but better with Chutney, it was after a few more pieces of Naan that Dessert was enjoyed, Gulab Jamun syrupy and satisfying while Kheer was good but unfortunately a little overlooked thanks to impeccable Gajar Halwa that ranks as the best to grace this writer’s mouth.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone there are only a few Indian Restaurants in town that offer the breadth and quality to please a diverse staff, and on Monday Ulzan Mehta and his team at India Oven Masala Bar & Grill outperformed expectations once again.

With four locations in Las Vegas, and recurrent “Best of Vegas” nods across several categories since inception, Aloha Kitchen & Bar remains busy mid-pandemic thanks to a strong following from native Hawaiians as well as guests happy to embrace Sin City’s “9th Island” status.
Currently open for dine-in and take out, all the usual Apps offering delivery from 8am until after midnight, it was at the 2605 South Decatur Boulevard store that several combos were picked up minutes prior to 11:30am on Saturday, everything packed and ready as promised from Aloha Kitchen’s safe and courteous staff.
Driven just twelve minutes home for consumption, Styrofoam clamshells slightly compromising golden Chicken Katsu as well as thickly battered Fish, diners familiar with Hawaiian Cuisine will expectedly find plenty of Rice packed alongside hefty portions of Protein, plus creamy Macaroni Salad offered in plastic containers in order to maintain a temperature that is cool and appropriate.
Built largely on the “Plate Lunch,” though “Sides” of most items can be ordered to taste something specific or round out a meal, it was beginning with well-marinated Kalbi that lunch got started, its bone-in nature the only real difference compared to Sugar and Soy Teriyaki available atop Beef as well as Chicken.
Incorporating diverse influences, the Philippines’ Lumpia found Pork-stuffed alongside miniature Egg Rolls that are more expensive yet less flavorful, those in the know will recognize Saimin as mandatory, in this case served without Broth but still featuring lots of sliced Pig and Scallions amidst the springy Egg Noodles.
Known to take their Swine serious, classic Kalua Pig’s smoky top-note differentiating it from Adobo brightened by Acid, it was wrapped in Taro Leaves that impart a slightly bitter flavor that Pork Lau Lau proved quite delicious while Aloha Kitchen’s “Rice Lovers Omelette” seems a little weird to those more familiar with European Food, though both its flavor and texture are enjoyable.
THREE AND A HALF STARS: Judged strictly based on take-out, Aloha Kitchen offers excellent value on the dollar and good customer service, though by-and-by some flavors are sweeter than necessary while the texture of fried items could be improved through better packaging.
RECOMMENDED: Kalua Pig, Chicken Fried Rice Lovers Omelette, Fried Saimin with Pork, Pork Lau Lau.
AVOID: Egg Roll, Chicken Katsu, Chicken Teriyaki.
TIP: Karaoke is currently closed, though sit down dining is available with safe social distancing.
