Opened as the signature Steakhouse at Durango Casino & Resort “Nicco’s Prime Cuts & Fresh Fish” resides just off the gaming floor adjacent The George, though immediately upon entry anyone familiar with the likes of Scotch 80 or Jean Georges will quickly realize there’s a lot more to the Restaurant than the usual Beef and Sides.

A quiet space despite its location, the foyer leading to a full bar in front of the main dining room, Nicco’s looks chic but feels familiar thanks to plush carpets and linens amidst wood, brass and a gleaming open kitchen led by former Nice Hospitality Chef Michael Tomorsky.

Bound by the needs of an off-Strip Casino, Filet Mignon and Dry Martinis aplenty, a deeper dive on Nicco’s menu attests to top-tier sourcing including everything from A5 Japanese Wagyu to Fresh Fish and organic Produce from nearby Farms.

Lower priced than like-concepts on Las Vegas Boulevard, but certainly not lacking for creativity with Cocktails using clarified Milk Punch or infused Spirits, fans of a Spritz will find “Cloud 9” well suited to Appetizers such as Snow Beef Carpaccio or Braised Short Ribs with Peruvian Chilis that outpace over-worked Meatballs propped up by whipped Cheese plus Tomato Sauce.

Joining an ever-growing arms race for Sin City’s best Steakhouse, a duo of housemade Pastas including spicy Rigatoni versus Snow Beef Tortellini declaring Nicco’s willingness to put in the work, neither Thick-Cut Bacon nor grilled Langoustines with Smoked Paprika-Meyer Lemon Butter should be ignored before moving on to the main event.

More than just Steaks, Station Casinos’ fondness of Prime Rib shown in a faultless dry-aged cut with Jus, Sides show well in classic form while the “28 Burger” earns its price tag with two-Patties fortified with A5 scraps and crispy golden Fries.

Not forgetting Aged Mediterranean Branzino, a dish not found elsewhere in town that will surely please epicures, those seeking something more comforting will be glad to know that Domestic Wagyu Country Fried Steak with Sausage Gravy is every bit as delicious as it sounds.

A stretch to find room for Dessert, especially as each of Nicco’s eight options are sizable for only $12, those seeking something light should consider delicate Donuts stuffed with Cream or Jam while those okay with a little decadence won’t go wrong with the Peanut Butter Brookie, S’mores Cookie Pie or steamy Toffee Pudding with typical sweetness countered by Crème Fraiche Ice Cream.

Born in Logan Utah Crumbl took the city by storm, their Instagramable rounds offered in thirty stores across six states by 2019 and now in all fifty states with six in Las Vegas including a South Strip location that moved from where Blue Diamond opened as the first in Sin City.

Created by Sawyer Hemsley and Jason McGowan, rapid expansion through franchising yielding mixed results from store to store as evidence by Social Media, it was after nine variable experiences that the westside storefront proved competent, the staff exceedingly pleasant whilst describing each choice.

Undoubtedly popular in part due to photogenicity, though a sterile interior oversells the fact that everything is made from scratch, the first thing those entering will notice is Crumbl’s collection of weekly flavors, though on this week nine choices were presented including both overly-sweet Chocolate Chip and Semi-Sweet Chunks plus Sea Salt.

Still a young company, so much success despite only starting in September 2017 certainly enviable, best bites came from specials that included Oatmeal Raisin, Dulce de Leche and Buttermilk Pancake, all the classic flavors well-represented including excellent slick Caramel and Cream Cheese Frosting.

Offered onsite or via delivery from 8am until at least 10pm Monday through Saturday it was next that Key Lime performed well thanks to tart top-notes while Raspberry Danish riffs on the concept in terms of taste if not texture.

Again finding “Cake” concepts better than the Cookies by which crumbl made their name its safe to say that Mint Brownie Batter made due on its promise while the “Brookie” saw both halves as expected.

Last visited two years prior Cake World Bakery continues doing good business in DTLV, the Panaderia at 220 North Maryland Parkway flying well below Las Vegas’ PR-driven radar despite being located at that same address for over two decades.

Not to be mistaken with the similarly named Cake World on North Tenaya Way, the focus of both spaces on Mexican Pan Dulce and custom-orders but entirely unrelated, Cake World Bakery is owned and operated by Juan Castenada who immigrated from Guanajuato in 1959, the son of a baker eventually picking up the family trade after a couple of career changes and never looking back after opening the single-story blue shop in 2002.

Certainly not a part of town frequented by tourists or even middle-class locals, though the slow gentrification of East Fremont including the likes of nearby PublicUS has created a cultural shift that makes the small Bakery’s barred windows seem a bit overly-cautious, guests entering Cake World Bakery will immediately find themselves greeted by either Juan or one of his family members, a pair of racks decked out in Pastries separating seating from the kitchen while chillers reside to the right full of Cakes and Beverages.

More English-fluent than other Panaderia in town, both in person and over the phone, it was after several minutes indecision that an order was arranged in addition to two Birthday Cakes for separate occasions.

Inexpensive as those familiar with such places might anticipate, a half-dozen Pan Dulce and the two Cakes tallying just $65, it was home that items were cut and tasted, the Concha starting things off and better than any other in Las Vegas while Elephant Ears crackle with Butter beneath caramelized Sugar.

Saving the Cakes for last, Carrot with Raisins beneath Cream Cheese Frosting dense and moist, fans will be happy to know that Chef Castenada’s many years in the business have yielded a textbook Tres Leches recipe that arrives soaking-wet while maintaining textural complexity thanks to smooth Custard between layers of Cake and the addition of chopped Strawberries.

From the day CRAFTkitchen opened it raised the bar for breakfast Valley-wide, and now with an expanded footprint Jaret and Tami’s little place in Henderson seeks to upgrade “After Hours” with Happy Hour and Dinner offerings Thursday through Saturday.

Eight and a half years now, the Blinn’s investment of money, time and talent paying off thanks to their commitment to quality and community, it was arriving at 6:15pm that three guests were seated in the Restaurant’s new half, several familiar servers all moving quickly but purposefully under the direction of a returned-GM.

Taking on a new light thanks to the full bar, living walls and art from the Blinn’s daughter still flanking diners to each side, it was shortly after seating that menus including a full Cocktail list were presented with ample explanation of plates listed as just one word.

Less busy than Brunch, though it is only a matter of time before word spreads, fans of Jaret’s Monkey Bread will find a dinner iteration packed with Ricotta and Garlic while the Charcuterie Board pairs three each Meats and Cheeses with housemade Lavash.

More concise than Brunch, though CRAFTkitchen’s Burger makes an appearance as Sliders on fluffy Potato Rolls, Entrees offer choices accounting for both Vegans and those with Celiac including faultless Risotto made even more creamy by Mascarpone.

Global in its scope, handmade Pappardelle with Short-Rib Ragu and Chicken Milanese offered alongside snappy Mushrooms dressed in Korean Chili Paste, fans of Robuchon’s Potatoes will find Blinn’s no less smooth despite Garlic while Polenta “Tots” are as addictive as one might guess.

Not forgetting charred Carrots, a now-ubiquitous Side that nonetheless continues to impress, those with knowledge of Jaret’s background in Pastry will smartly order one of each Dessert and be prepared to debate which one is best – a tough choice between classic Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ube Bread Pudding fried like French Toast Sticks.

Already the rare Las Vegas recipient of a James Beard Foundation Award, Chef Saipin Chutima named Best Chef: Southwest in 2011, Lotus of Siam needs no introduction – though its recreation on Flamingo and fanciful digs at Red Rock suggest the Chef’s children have bigger things in mind about the Restaurant’s legacy going forward.

Having visited the unassuming icon of Thai Food several times prior, Friday evening found the concept from Tao Group owner Lou Abin and Lotus of Siam’s Bua Food Group at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa as busy as it is beautiful.

Built out of former Buffet space, lanterns and hanging vines creating a vibe across spaces from bar to the back, it is with a truncated version of Chutima’s Northern Thai traditions that Lotus at Red Rock pays homage to the original with service more appropriate to Summerlin.

Requesting everything level five of ten, Thai Coffee and signature Riesling a prudent choice for those looking to quell the fire, Dinner began with tender Fish Cakes alongside Issan Sausage that is snappy, sour and worth every word of praise.

Not forgetting better-than-expected Egg Rolls or Nam Prik Ong teaming with Chilis, Vegetables and Pork Rinds used as delivery mechanisms, Garlic Crispy Prawns continue to earn “Mom’s Highlights” status with edible Shells still on and varying textures from bite to bite.

All in on Noodles and Curry, Beef Pad See Ew well executed but lost in the wake of Khao Soi and Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp, additional Rice is well-utilized in sopping up the Sauce from Crispy Duck Chu-Chee, Panang Curry with medium rare Ribeye or Deep Fried Fish with Chilis.

Not exactly “known” for sweet stuff, though the Red Rock iteration seems intent on correcting that, Dessert arrived featuring everything from time-honored deep fried Bananas to Chocolate Fondant and Pineapple Upside Down Cake served warm with Coconut Gelato and a Cherry on Top.

Already taking a chance by opening another KBBQ concept on Spring Mountain Mr. BBQ’s Jenny Chai doubled down in early February 2023 with Mama Chai’s, the Boba and Dessert shop joining a crowded market but hoping to succeed thanks to cute design plus quality baking.

Accessed via a separate entrance towards the rear of 4240 Spring Mountain Road, an outdoor patio and murals greeting guests, it is via digital menu that one may construct Beverages to their liking while Mochi Donuts and other sweets line a Pastry case near the front.

Offering Milk or Fruit Tea, Yogurt Drinks and Frappes featuring Asian Ingredients a look at the Baked Goods spans a dozen or so flavors, the newly launched Mochi Kochi Donut Holes a fun concept making good use of Mama Chai’s airy Whipped Cream whether Ube or plain.

Open Noon to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and an hour later on weekends the menu continues with Mochi Donuts, an idea popularized by Japan’s “pon de ring” already done far better at Mama Chai’s than by Paina Café down the road.

Made from Tapioca Flour and naturally free of Gluten, their consistency often described as bouncy or light, Jenny’s Mochi rings pull inspiration from a variety of cultures, Butterfinger and Oreo as expected while flavors topped in Strawberry Shortcake or the flavors of a Samoa Cookie further magnify the pleasantly chewy base.

Family owned and operated from the start, Dominic Sang bringing family recipes from a Texas Doughnuttery to Sin City in October 2015, guests entering Glaze Doughnuts will notice little has since changed about the shop in 8 years while a soft base and creative toppings earn “Best of Las Vegas” accolades annually.

Located on Fort Apache Road, fair prices and friendly service undoubtedly part of Glaze’s appeal, what the shop lacks in selection is more than made up for in quality compared to the likes of Dunkin, Krispy Kream or other spots nearby.

Largely built on Yeast Rings, though undersized Fritters perform admirably, fans of simplicity will find Maple Frosting far more subtle than most while Chocolate and Vanilla Glaze are also of excellent quality with or without additions such as Cereal or Candy.

Not over-the-top, but balanced and complex, Ube and Coconut dazzle atop a fluffy leavened base while Peanut Butter and Jelly do the same, though if one is seeking Glaze’s top choice the decision comes down to Blueberry Cinnamon Toast, Churros and Horchata or Matcha Green Tea Pistachio that delivers sweetness beneath toasty notes.

Familiar with Michael Solomonov long before his JBFA awards, a meal at Zahav still memorable nearly fifteen years later, Station Casino’s announcement that Federal Donuts & Chicken would open at Red Rock created great anticipation even though the quick-casual concept targets an entirely different demographic than the icon of Israeli cuisine.

Solomonov and partner Steve Cook’s first West Coat concept, one originally launched in 2011 with a focus on fresh Donuts, twice-fried Chicken and La Colombe Coffee, guests will find Federal Donuts & Chicken just off the food court with opening hours from 7am-10pm Sunday-Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturday.

Popular for Semifreddo, though no less so for the Gelato itself, fans will find the base creamy but light and whether flecked with Coconut or harnessing Nuts each bite tastes pure thanks to a lack of preservatives or excess Sugar.

Not an easy place to walk-in, the L-shaped footprint holding perhaps two dozen diners, guests instead confirm reservations made by phone before occupying wood seats, a pour of house Chianti soon to follow alongside three types of Bread in a basket.

Wood-lined with white tablecloths, tables nearly touching, Trattoria Ruggero proposes a seasonal menu focused on history and season, a plate of Charcuterie plus chopped Liver Toast similar to others while a Salad of Chicories finds bitterness balanced by Anchovy Dressing.

Predictably offering Tuscan T-Bones served bloody, a sizable cut for six at an adjacent table, those seeking something lighter should consider Tortellini served in clear Broth with depth or hand-cut Tagliatelle served simply amidst Aspargus and Butter.

Tempted by another Steak, more affordable than most, it was on the recommendation of neighbors that spoon-tender Roast Pork instead arrived as Secondi with a side of Potatoes, the extra capacity saved for crumbly Cake and a caramelized Apple from the oven soaked in Syrup.

Loved by locals and Tripadvisor Forno Ghibellina has been serving Florence since 1890, a spacious interior unexpected from the street greeting guests who seek friendly servers offering a wide range of Breads, Beverages and Pastries.

Situated on the street for which it is named, modern insides including a bar showing no signs of 130+ years, it is with Espresso downed that many exit the space with Cornetti in hand though for those with a bit of time a Pistachio-filled version justifies a napkin and fork.

Less impressed by Sfogliatelle that break too briskly around Custard, a dollop of which can be found atop a textbook Zeppoli sandwiching Cream, it was on the recommendation of a woman at the register that an Almond Tart showed well thanks to a supple crumb sweetened by Marzipan.

Positioned in a sizable two-story space along the Amo Bottega di Pasticceria has both parking and seating uncommonly seen at Italian Pastry shops, the package as a whole quite impressive and matched by elegant traditional cakes as well as Viennoiserie.

One of two shops owned locally by Simone Bartolini, once manager of The Uffizi Gallery Cafe, it is inside that guests will find savories as well as sweets matched to Coffee or Wine, everything carefully crafted such that Pistachio Cornetti shatter to the tooth while Nutella Brioche is soft and springy.

A national building purchased by Giorgio Pinchiorri in 1972 Enoteca Pinchiorri carries all the excesses one might expect from a Michelin 3* Restaurant, from the 16 page Water menu to a €1950 3-Wine pairing and housemade Breads matching each course.

Currently toqued by Riccardo Monco while Maître D Alessandro Tomberli directs gratuitously accommodating service it is atop plush seats that diners are invited to dine a la carte or as a €310 degustazione, the latter served at a pace accommodating those who eat both slow and fast.

An opulent space filled with oil paintings and flowers, all of it mirrored by grandiose plates full of color, it is after selecting beverages that Canapes arrive as a rainbow of textures and flavors including a Squid Ink Beignet and Black Cabbage Tartelette with Quinoa.

Cherished by oenophiles thanks to Pinchiorri’s extensive cellar, though a few bargains can also be found, late-Winter’s tasting began with a warm Oyster perfumed by Laurels before progressing through a thin piece or Squid atop Uni and sheeted Pasta with White Pheasant Ragout plus earthy Bechamel.

Frequently veering far from Italy for Ingredients as well as inspiration, and thereby stripping away some of the ‘terroir’ that makes many eateries of Enoteca Pinchiorri’s caliber unique, Sauteed Snails in a Mousse of Sunchoke is nonetheless delicious while Turbot is unfortunately lost beneath all the ingredients on top.

Increasingly complex with Duck Breast bathed in Passion Fruit alongside creamy Foie Gras the latter half of the menu is highlighted by a “Cheese Course” featuring Polenta plus Castelmagno while Desserts are elegant and enjoyable but “Italian” in no way.

Declining the Cheese Cart, but not an impressive collection of Mignardises, it was after a thirty minute wait that the check arrived with a take-home gift and thanks, though no lasting impact as this sort of Food can be found at many Michelin 2* or 3* establishments nowadays.

“Home of the world’s best Sandwiches” per Saveur, and now with three New York locations plus one in SoCal and Las Vegas, guests visiting the original location can expect a brief queue to taste housemade Schiacciata wrapped around Italian ingredients at half the price one pays stateside.

Impossible to miss thanks to Tommaso’s embrace of everything from tripadvisor to TikTok guests will find several signatures plus seasonal specials and Wine poured at the register, both Inferno and Bada Come La Fuma under €10 but large enough to provide a filling meal for one.

Operating without a website or PR for over 150 years Trattoria Sostanza is something of an institution, and although locals may gripe that the Restaurant has become overrun with tourists those with the prudence to book one of six tables will discover textbook Tuscan cuisine served by a pleasant staff.

Not remotely fancy, the bar up front doubling as a prep-station for Dessert and cashier, it is surrounded by family photos that house Wine is poured liberally prior to the arrival of bread made fresh and replenished on request.

Known for signatures including Bistecca alla Fiorentina, according to some the best in town, an antipasti of sliced Salumi compares favorably to many while Tortellini en Brodo split to share comes hazy but packed savory notes and a vegetal finish.

Sporting an open kitchen, its small size comparable to Sostanza itself, both the Artichoke Omelette (labeled “Pie”) and Chicken in Butter Sauce are highly-regarded for good reason while Meringue Cake with Chocolate Chips and Wild Strawberries is a textural masterpiece.

Now 81 with Pasticceria throughout Italy those who call Iginio Massari “King of Pastries” or the “World’s Best Pastry Chef” are certainly within their rights, especially as his Galleria on the ground floor of the Helvetia & Bristol Hotel in Florence continues to generate long lines daily.

Drawn to Pastry from a young age, and working in kitchens now for nearly seventy years, it is inside modern confines that guests discover all sorts of Viennoiserie as well as leavened Breads formed by hand from nothing but the area’s best Ingredients.

More pricey than local artisans, though certainly not unrealistic as items such as a faultless Veneziane cost only €2, those arriving to Via dei Vecchietti 3 early will note Sfogliata with various fillings including creamy Pistachios alongside a delicate Pastry brushed with Butter and packed with Rice Pudding.

Perhaps best known for Roman Maritozzi, often dressed up for special occasions, Massari feature Brioche so light that it almost seems impossible surrounding a choice of Custard or ethereal Pastry Cream.
