Located inside Suite 242 of 6380 South Valley View Boulevard it seems likely that no one will accidentally stumble upon Chocolate Chip Cookie Company, but for those with the prudence to seek Dessert while out and about the small store in front of a commissary kitchen may just be serving Las Vegas’ best collection of locally made rounds.

Focused on “Bringing the Cookie Back,” and previously available only by delivery, it was late 2018 that Jovan Mesa-Glennon and husband John opened a small store at the back of an industrial complex, hours from 10:00am till six o’clock or later daily giving guests a chance to see the facility and take home one or more of several flavors.

Baking everything from scratch, Jovan’s secret recipes yielding the sort of Cookie that blossoms a bit around the edge before becoming crisp, it was based on prior experience that four-dozen were ordered for work, the business’ namesake buttery with just enough Vanilla and Cinnamon to perfume the palate while chunks of Bittersweet Chocolate are partially melted throughout the center.

Next tasting M&Ms, followed by Reese’s Peanut Butter, the addition of Cups plus Pieces to Mrs. Mesa-Glennon ‘s Batter proves predictably delicious while Oatmeal Raisin is textbook chewy with oodles of nostalgia.

Prioritizing customer safety by individually bagging each Cookie at no extra cost, Banana Walnut wins guests over by way of natural sweetness and toasty spots in juxtaposition to sugary Toffee Chocolate Chip that is also slightly salty and heterogeneous from bite-to-bite.

Not forgetting White Chocolate and Craisins, nor Sprinkles or “Just the Dough,”Chocolate Chip Cookie Company’s version of a Snickerdoodle lives up to its title of “Cinnamon and Sugar Cookie” thanks to a granulated top plus plenty of Butter while “Half & Half” offers indecisive customers the best of both worlds.

FIVE STARS: Although unlikely to get a lot of foot traffic at the back of an off-strip industrial complex the wife and husband team behind Chocolate Chip Cookie Company are quickly making a name for themselves thanks to a “do one thing and do it well” spot featuring locally-made rounds in a variety of flavors.

RECOMMENDED: Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie, Cinnamon and Sugar Cookie, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Half & Half Cookie, Banana Walnut Cookie, Cranberry White Chocolate Cookie.

Started in 1987 by Gregory Economou in El Cajon California, and now with four locations including a Las Vegas outpost on Rainbow inside the 215, Greek Chicken promises guests not just fresh Food but made-to-order plates featuring quality Ingredients at a fair price.

Opened in September 2020, the strip-mall storefront twenty yards from In-N-Out Burger undoubtedly a gutsy choice, it is once inside that diners will encounter pleasant staff who work diligently with menus both overhead and handheld offering a bevy of choices.

Advertising everything to be fresh and never frozen, the eponymous Bird an obvious choice whether straight from the Bone or as a juicy Kabob, most plates arrive with fragrant Rice, crisp Salad and warm Pita ready to be slathered in either Tzatziki or Hummus.

Also offering sliced-to-serve Gyro, 1/4lb of fragrant Meat plus Fries, Salad and Pita for just $13.95, those seeking something handheld may instead opt for a $7.85 Sandwich that is more than enough to provide an ample lunch for most.

Just $3.15 for sides, expertly-prepared Fried Zucchini competing for the spotlight with medium-thick Onion Rings served alongside Ranch, a few unexpected choices include three Filets of Beer Battered Fish for $10.95 atop a big pile of Fries and the certified Angus Cheeseburger available for $6.25 as a quarter pounder.

A bit pricey for Baklava, though at $3.65 per triangle the quality is good for Las Vegas, Greek Chicken also offers Ice Cream Cones, Sundaes or Shakes including very convincing Butterscotch and Pineapple so thick it requires a spoon.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS: Modern but homey, also with a drive-thru, Greek Chicken’s menu casts a wide net but executes very well with standouts including never-frozen Chicken served whole or as Kabobs, fragrant Gyros and an excellent Burger plus Fish & Chips that outperform the modest price-point.

RECOMMENDED: Gyro Plate, Whole Greek Style Chicken, Fried Zucchini, Onion Rings, Beer Battered Fish, 1/2lb Angus Cheeseburger, Pineapple Shake, Butterscotch Shake.

Located at Hughes Center since 1997 Lawry’s The Prime Rib can safely be described as a Las Vegas icon, and although both Dallas and Beverly Hills have outposts that does nothing to dampen an Art Deco dining room and service on par to what one will find at some of The Strip’s top Steakhouses.

Known for Meats carved tableside from gleaming carts, though Certified Angus Steaks and fresh Seafood are also available, Lawry’s experience begins with check-in at the hostess’ podium, a trip to the lounge favored by some while most won’t wish to delay the main event.

Lavish without being stuffy, curved banquettes and tables each available, guests dine in a lively environment fueled by Wine or Cocktails poured shortly after the arrival of warm Sourdough Bread.

Smart to order some starters, though those seeking lunch in under an hour could surely achieve such with Salad, a Sandwich or Prime Rib plus sides, Lawry’s Shrimp & Corn & Jalapeno Fritters outpace Crabcakes with Remoulade while the “Famous” Spinning Salad is a polarizing experience mostly thanks to the inclusion of Beets.

Offering Roast Beef as a full-Dinner or a la carte, the former inclusive of Salad, Mashed Potatoes and overcooked Yorkshire Pudding, the quality of Lawry’s Prime Rib is evident in terms of taste, texture and appearance while additional sides range from luxurious Creamed Corn and Spinach to fairly mundane Fries.

Not forgetting extra Au Jus, nor sizzling Mushrooms and Whipped Cream Horseradish for fans, Desserts come at the bargain price of $10 each for Coconut Banana Cream Pie that is heavy on the Cream plus seasonal English Trifle and Sticky Toffee Pudding better than one will get from Gordon Ramsay.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS: With locations in Beverly Hills, Dallas and Las Vegas Lawry’s The Prime Rib is less a chain than the likes of most “celebrity chef” Restaurants on The Strip. It is also a lot more honest. 25 years serving Prime Rib, Prime Angus Beef Steaks, Classic Sides and Cocktails in an Art Deco room with great service is about as simple as it gets these days and “what you see is what you get” pays dividends.

RECOMMENDED: Shrimp & Corn & Jalapeno Fritters, Iron Skillet Mushrooms, Diamond Jim Brady Cut Prime Rib, Creamed Corn, Creamed Spinach, Sticky Toffee Pudding, English Trifle.

AVOID: Yorkshire Pudding was nearly burned to a crisp.

TIP: Skip the Valet and walk twenty feet from complimentary Self-Parking.

Found at the east end of The Center at Spring Mountain, inside the former confines of Chada Street, Partage is the second Restaurant from partners Yuri Szarzewski, Vincent Pellerin and Nicolas Kalpokdjian, the trio behind Eatt Gourmet Bistro describing their upscale concept as “the American dream of award winning French Chefs” since 2019.

Translated as “sharing,” appropriate in two ways as the team seeks to share their passion with patrons by way of what one server called “French Tapas,” it was immediately upon entering that guests were greeted professionally, the young hostess first confirming reservations and then leading diners to a PDR with customizable lighting.

Highly customizable, with 5, 7, and 9-course Tasting Menus offered in addition to a la carte items large or small, it was without delay that dinner began with a small Gougere while a presentation took place in the background.

Opting for a fruity Mocktail to accompany dinner, and finishing it quickly as its sweetness would have overwhelmed subtle starters, the star of the evening arrived in the form of “Orzo Risotto” forming an enjoyable backdrop to vibrant Pesto, Squid and Pine Nuts.

Well-paced with unobtrusive service, the latter a big improvement from three years ago, Halibut arrived a touch overcooked on a bed of Onion flavors tempered by “Carbonara Foam” before the main course of Duck Breast cooked properly amidst Peaches and Root Vegetables.

Happy to see an actual Espresso machine on Spring Mountain Road, the Beans medium roasted and offered in a variety of styles, it was here that Pastry Chef Vincent Pellerin took over, “La Peche” texturally compelling with assertive Coulis while Mignardises were each executed with a deft hand.

THREE AND A HALF STARS: Relieved from the self-imposed constraints of “health Food” at Eatt, Chefs Szarzewski and Pellerin are preparing some nice plates at Partage. The problem isn’t that it is a “bad” restaurant, but rather that locals and “foodies” want it to be something it isn’t. Good cooking. Decent Ingredients. Pretty plating. “Experts” and “Influencers” can call it perfect. Perspective calls it a decent French restaurant doing well on a Thursday.

RECOMMENDED: Orzo Risotto, La Peche.

AVOID: N/A.

TIP: Early arrival for reservations is recommended as parking at The Center at Spring Mountain remains limited.

Previously discussing Chef Marrone’s background here, time with Tao Group unequivocally involved in Asian Cuisine capable of satisfying both discerning diners and folks that typically gravitate to Panda Express, it was on time Monday that a Graffiti Bao employee arrived with everything necessary, professionalism and safety never in question.

Opting for old favorites from a menu that offers far more diversity than its brevity suggests, the Graffiti Burger was predictably the first stop for many, and although the tender Meat and fresh Toppings were highly praised Graffiti Bao’s Chicken Fried Rice remains a fan-favorite thanks to toasted Chiles and bits of fried Skin on top.

Onward to Green Beans slicked with Honey, the quality of Graffiti Bao’s sourcing shows well from Protein to Produce, five styles of the Restaurant’s eponymous Buns satisfying diners on this day with the BBQ Pork a favorite for many but the Pulp Fiction referencing Royale with Cheese also pretty tough not to enjoy.

Neglecting White Rice to save stomach capacity for better things, at least three whole Scallion Pancakes devoured over the course of an hour, Marrone’s Braised Short Ribs with folded Bao saw a whole tray emptied nearly as quickly.

Rounding out the allotment with Crispy Wings and Spring Rolls, the latter often overlooked but amongst the best of their kind thanks to an oilless exterior housing plenty of meat and flavor, it was with plenty of Leftovers packed that staff was sated and already looking forward to the next time Graffiti Bao is ordered.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Graffiti Bao sets a very high standard in terms of customer service, while every Item across 28 orders has been nicely presented, displaying “Fusion” without being compromised and appealing to a broad range of diners.

RECOMMENDED: Scallion Pancakes, Royale with Cheese Bao Buns, BBQ Pork Bao Buns, Chicken Egg Fried Rice, Braised Short Ribs, Sticky Green Beans, Prawn and Pork Spring Rolls, Graffiti Burger, The Bao Dog.

Debuted in early 2021 Milpa took over the former Elia space at 4226 South Durango Drive, its off-kilter location unfortunately easy to miss despite the fact that Chef DJ Flores is cooking some of the best contemporary Mexican Cuisine in Las Vegas.

Part Molino and also a sit-down Café, with stone-ground housemade Tortillas a point of pride, Milpa’s focus is a healthier sort of Mexican Fare built largely from local Ingredients, and although not everyone will appreciate that difference the ones that do will be rewarded by every bite.

Ordered for delivery on Monday, a Milpa employee arriving on time with plenty of serviceware and utensils, it was not long before staff piled their plates with everything from fragrant Rice to spicy Spuds, while Corn Esquites channel Elotes minus all the Mayonnaise.

Raised in Vegas with skills developed under thinkfoodgroup and Too Hot Tamales before staging at Quintonil in Mexico City, Chef Flores created Milpa after time at Chica in The Venetian, though the authenticity of this project far outpaces anything from Lorena Garcia whether it be Salad or roasted Meats.

Well-priced for the quality, roughly $15 per person providing more than enough of everything to go around, Guacamole, Chips and Salsa are all praiseworthy and made fresh daily, as are Concha served during early hours and Cookies featuring Chocolate Chips, Granulated Sugar, Cinnamon and Abuelita.

Further making fans with a Romaine & Jicama Salad, whether eaten as intended or using its constituents as Taco toppings, Chef Flores’ handmade Tortillas are medium-thick, soft and with the perfect amount of flex such that one is enough to support tender Short Ribs, plump Shrimp or juicy Chicken plus accoutrements.

Self-appointed “The Best Restaurant in the Entire Galactic System” this writer’s previous experiences tell a mixed story of SkinnyFATS, one of good Food and questionable catering that seems to be improving thanks to the involvement of Graffiti Bao’s Marc Marrone.

Debuted during summer 2013 right here in Las Vegas, and since expanding via franchising to Texas as well as Utah, SkinnyFATS promises guests an opportunity to “Live Healthy, Live Happy,” every item on the menu’s left half under 600 kcals while those on the right are more hearty.

Ever evolving as relates to Chef Marrone’s ideas, owner Reed Slobusky’s Salads, Cookies and Sandwiches still comprising much of the menu, it was from the hands of a timely delivery-man that nine items were delivered, “Yummus” a bit thin but paired to soft Pita while “Spud McCurry” delighted those who sport a more adventurous palate.

Next taking a bite of the “Meltdown,” a Patty Melt punched up by Provolone and Caramelized Onions, those familiar with Chef Marrone’s work at Locale Italian Kitchen will be unsurprised that Vegetarian Arancini titled “Balls” are exemplary while SkinnyFATS “Cranburky” Burger sports half a pound of lean Turkey on a Wheat Bun with Holiday-inspired accoutrement.

Not forgetting Tempura-fried Sweet Potato Fries it was after a couple handfuls that two types of Cookie competed for the spotlight before finishing up with texturally-flawless Banana Pudding.

N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Chef Marc Marrone’s involvement at SkinnyFATS adds yet another concept to his cadre, and although the menu will continue to evolve there is no doubt every aspect of the Restaurant will benefit from the Graffiti Bao team’s skills and diligence.

Historically the first Restaurant ever selected to #supportlocal with lunch at the office, and reprising their catering role several times since, it was on Monday that Naked City Pizza delivered from the Blue Diamond Road “Express” location approximately ten minutes away.

The 25th time bringing Christopher and Michael Palmeri’s Pizza Shop off-site, indoor dining now reopened brand-wide, it was minutes prior to 11:30am that Michael arrived with a glut of items, easily enough Food for twice the number of guests with plenty of leftovers for later.

Presenting everything temperature appropriate it was not long before first-shift lunchers called dibs on Slices, Cup n’ Char Pepperoni predictably proving popular atop melted Mozzarella and housemade Sauce with plenty of Herbs, as did Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives famous Guinea Pie featuring White Garlic Sauce and Grandma Palmeri’s Meatballs.

Slinging Sin City’s best Chicken Wings, a few dozen devoured in minutes, Salad again proved popular with those seeking something lighter while the Buffalo 22 Pizza continues to make waves with dueling Meats, White Sauce, Crispy Garlic and Mike’s Hot Honey.

Continuing with Garlic Bread, slices continued to be enjoyed alongside Sausage & Meatballs while Dessert consisted of housemade Brookies impregnated with Oreos that taste great warm, cold or even two days later.

Specializing in Pretzels, signage suggesting “our café is supplied daily with baked goods from selected bakeries” making it difficult to know if everything else is made on-site, both the sliced “Butter Brezel” and one with Cheese faired well while Bread with Pumpkin Seeds and a soft Croissant were decent, at best.

Reasonably priced and happy to accept Credit Card, entry to exit less than five minutes for those on the go, Berliners come poorly filled without a lot of density while the Poppyseed Roll is compromised by Icing that renders it overly-sweet.

A concept from Rene Frank, former Pastry Chef at Michelin 3-star La Vie, CODA seeks to elevate classic patisserie techniques into a complete tasting menu served amidst casual confines in trendy Neukölln.

Described as a “Dessert Restaurant,” the definition of this discovered across five courses plus an equal number of Snacks and Mignardises beginning at 22h00, guests will find the intimate space behind tagged walls with signage so inapparent it is easy to miss.

Also offering a 7-course dinner earlier, both tastings complete with small pours of Alcohol, bar seating affords diners an opportunity to work while service is professionally but somewhat brisk and fairly pushy when it comes to suggesting additional Wines including a Champagne and Digestifs to start and finish.

Using no added Sugar across the night, instead choosing to let technique highlight natural sweetness, dinner begins with a quartet of individual bites, Candied Lettuce with Cream Cheese and Crystalized Cucumber easily the best while “Beefcake” also succeeds in its subtlety.

Hit and miss with the Cocktails, the first two enjoyable while others featuring Dill or Horseradish Eau de Vie were frankly undrinkable, proper courses began with Cabbage and Cheese stuck to the bowl over Grapefruit before continuing onto a three-bite cup of assertive Rhubarb with Tarragon and Honey.

A slow paced meal, lengthy pauses seeing another solo diner read a novel between courses, dish three presents a quarter Waffle filled with Cheese intended to be dragged through Kimchi Powder and Yogurt before proceeding to an “Entrée” of grilled Apple beneath an Oatmeal Crust and Raisins.

All concrete and monochrome, the kitchen working quietly on plates that are higher in concept than in taste, CODA’s “signature” comes in the form of a €40 supplement “Caviar Popsicle” that is gorgeous in both taste and texture before serving a fairly forgettable Carrot and Cocoa finale and sending guests into the night still-hungry and €178 poorer.

Ordered as six proper courses for €138, no Bread service but flanked by extras, the day’s first dish arrived as three crispy Dumplings in a pool of Crustacean Stock with Soy, each bite subtle but effective preceding Pike Perch that emerges from steam tableside with Mint soon tickling the palate beneath a blanket of housemade Sauerkraut.

Known for using Fruits to add natural sweetness amidst acidity and spice, “Duck a l’Orange” Dim Sum a stunning example as Kumquat peaks out from beneath Chili Oil, Pumpkin and Mushroom Gravy, Chef Raue’s take on Sate Chicken seems almost too basic despite the elegant presentation.

Utilizing close relationships with his producers and Japanese technique honed at Nihonryori RyuGin, plus time at the likes of noma, the menu changes daily with simplicity and focus but zero pretense.

Pointless to describe course-for-course, though Fava Beans, Chawanmushi, Langoustine, Lobster and Colostrum Ice Cream all remain indelible memories, reservations are mandatory via Tock as soon as they become available with a prepaid ticket allowing diners to sit back, relax and rest assured that they are in good hands.

Creative yet concise, confident but comfortable, and all of it from a truly hospitable staff that seems genuinely interested in providing each guest with a personalized experience making use of the best Ingredients available.

Debuted in 1999 with just two employees Berliner Kaffeerösterei is first and foremost a family company, their expansion in terms of storefronts and styles slow and calculated such that three generations are now involved in everything from sales to sourcing.

Focused on direct-trade Beans from responsible Farms, both Coffee and Cacao, entering the shop on Uhlandstrasse floods the eyes with one-hundred plus styles of each, everything from Truffles to Bark behind glass with a Café on the other side offering Cakes, Drinks and seating.

Drum-roasted on-site, an Americano on Ice smooth with light acidity, Cakes range contemporary to timeless with the “Original” Cheesecake creamy but a bit under sweetened while Kaffeerösterei’s Linzer Torte is properly glazed with Apricot with a bit of tooth above and below Raspberry Jelly.

Even more rustic with Apple Almond Cake, the Streusel melt-in-the-mouth thanks to an abundance of Butter, fans of Poppy Seeds will find no better Mohnkuchen in Berlin as this version eschews textural complexity in favor of Seeds ground so fine that they become one with the subtly sweet Batter.

With two locations on busy pedestrian streets “The Organic Hotdog Stand” may appear to be just another Food Cart, but thanks to multiple awards DØP (Den Økologiske Pølsemand) has earned an unlikely reputation as one of Copenhagen’s top dining destinations.

Near The Round Tower and The Church of The Holy Ghost, location number one more convenient on this occasion, DØP offers Organic Sausages atop Whole Grain Bread with Linseed at prices as low as DKK 40.

Producing their own Sauces and certifying every Ingredient Organic, no small feat considering the variety, DØP’s Fransk places a snappy traditional Danish Hotdog inside hollowed Bread slicked by Herb Dressing while the Oksekrydder uses Spicy Beef with Merguez seasoning and the works to up the ante.

Also offering Pork, Chicken, Vegetarian and Cheese Sausages, plus Politiken’s 2012 Organic Gold Medal winning Goat Sausage, suffice it to say customization is as easy as saying the words, a lack of raw Onions atop Gedepoise allowing the flavor of Rosemary a place amongst Goat, Pickles and Remoulade.

Purveyor of Coffee and Pastries, but perhaps best known for Artisan Popsicles, Cafe Det Vide Hus is an independent Café near Nørreport Station open from 07h00 Tuesday through Friday and at 09h00 on Weekends.

Two stories with games upstairs, the counter containing four Breads and Coffee paraphernalia, most guests seem to opt for a Morning Bun plus Espresso on-the-go, good Beans with mild acidity pulled to order while the Sesame Seed Sourdough offers a stretchy crumb around Cheese and Butter.

Cozy and good for crowd-gazing, prices lower than elsewhere, Det Vide Hus’ Croissant could stand a bit more leavening to open the center while a puck-shaped Cookie fares better thanks to good Chocolate, lots of Butter and flecks of Salt.

Serving Copenhagen since 1976, originally called Marstrand but later Holm’s across several storefronts, the location at upscale Illum offers shoppers and downtown denizens an opportunity to enjoy the café coinciding with store hours daily.

Best known for the Østergade flagship, family owned it its third generation, Holm’s in Strøget offers classic recipes served by a friendly staff including savories such as Seed-crusted Graeskar Bolle and a respectable Pain au Chocolat.

Taking time with Coffee and flavored Lattes, prices comparable to the likes of Juno or Hart, Holms Cardamom Roll glistens beneath Sugar with bold aromatics and a good chew while the Almond Croissant is poorly laminated and drippy with texture-compromising goo.

Better-off with Cookies such as a Raspberry Sandwich with Pistachios, though the thick Chocolate Chip Hazelnut version is also good, Holms Tebirkes finds itself equally flaccid as the Almond Croissant though thankfully less cloyingly sweet.
