Opened mid-2019, Tacos 1986 is the brainchild of Victor Delgado and Jorge Alvarez-Tostado, their stand formerly found on Highland Avenue and at Smorgasburg now slinging a concise menu of Meats and Vegetables atop housemade Tortilla at the corner of 6th and Spring Street downtown.
A financial-partnership with the folks behind Joe’s Pizza, Tacos 1986 is considered a “Tijuana-style Taco shop,” but for fans the biggest factor weighing into accolades is an exaggerated amount of Cheese more typical of America, and best evidenced through items such as the Quesadilla-like Mulita.
Raved by LA Times critic Bill Addison, and red-hot across several pop-ups before turning brick and mortar, it is inside a stripped-down storefront that guests will find the no-frills dining room, grilled Meats perfuming the air while men and women tend to tasks including making fresh Tortillas.
Catering to a diverse audience, with prices far less egregious than other “hip” Taquerias throughout Los Angeles, it takes less than ten minutes after ordering for most guests to get their Food, housemade Salsa and Guacamole freshing-up a mélange of Mushrooms for vegans while Pico and fresh Cilantro can also be added, as desired.
Skipping more esoteric toppings, just Al Pastor, Carne Asada and Chicken constituting Tacos 1986’s Meats, $4.50 feels like a bargain for spit-roasted Beef bright with Citrus between inside a two-Tortilla Mulita while 50-cents more yields a fried Shell and even more Cheese in the form of a Vampiro.
Cultured Butter, House Raspberry Jam, Country Sourdough Toast
Goat Cheese, Local Raw Honey, Black Pepper, Walnut Raisin Sourdough Toast
Kouign Amann
Almond Croissant
Snickerdoodle Cookie
Monkey Bread
Founded by Zack Hall out of an apartment on Clark Street in West Hollywood, Clark Street Bread has resided inside Grand Central Market since 2015, skills originally learned at his Wife’s family bakery in the Swedish countryside since refined to make bountiful Breads and elegant Viennoiserie.
Located next to a juicery, and along the lay of Eggslut’s inexplicable queue, it is on approach that guests are greeted by one of two servers, the booth’s small size seeing one gather and bag Pastries while his counterpart takes great care preparing Toasts that are topped to-order.
Now with a second location in Echo Park, miles from the days of delivering to Lindy & Grundy Butcher Shop both literally and figuratively, a visit to Clark Street begins with tough choices, though it is hard to pass on Toast including robustly flavored Sourdough topped with a big dollop of aged-Butter and Raspberry Jam spread thickly edge-to-edge.
Offering $5 “Toast Tuesday,” when LA-staple Avocado Toast can be had for almost half-off, Walnut Raisin Sourdough beneath peppered-Goat Cheese and Honey is worth every penny of $7.50 while $4 Koiugn Amann taste just like what one finds in the bakeries of Bordeaux and Brittany.
A bit disappointed in Hall’s Almond Croissant, the lack of Frangipane a bonus but too much Sugar masking Butter and Nuts, a Snickerdoodle immediately righted the ship while pull-apart Monkey Bread topped in Cinnamon-Sugar ate light and crunchy with a well-develop taste of yeast lingering at the end of each bite.
Having asserted several times that Bardot at Aria is America – if not the World’s – most innovative Brasserie, it was as a group of eight that dinner was enjoyed on Tuesday evening, Chef Josh Smith rolling out some new ideas along with several classics for returning guests and first-timers alike.
Now a five year Strip-veteran, no small feat in a city where constant turnover is standard, it was just prior to 6:00pm that guests were led from hostess podium to the table at room’s center, a familiar waiter with his thick French accent assisting with Beverages including the cleverly named “Le Peche Mode” which sips like a more complex Tiki drink thanks to Cognac, Crème de Peche, Lemon and Ginger.
Deferring Carte Blanche to the kitchen over the past twenty visits, trust that has been earned time and time again, it was with confirmation of no allergies or intolerances that dinner began with Bread, Bardot’s Baguette predictably warm and crunchy with house Butter while a Shellfish Tower and Charcuterie Board showed off sourcing and classic technique, respectively.
Next presented with two of Chef Smith’s recent signatures, his King Crab & Endive Salad winning “best dish of the night” accolades from one guest, it was after dividing two modernized Tarte Flambé that attention turned to all-new Ravioli, a tip of the hat to Nouvelle Cuisine yielding Scallops inside the Pasta with Mushrooms and Herbs decorating delicate Beurre Blanc on the plate.
Thankful that Nevada does not feel so strongly about Foie Gras as New York or California, a hot and cold duo embracing decadence by offering the first with Black Truffle plus Bordelaise while the second sees a Terrine transformed into “Butter” by White Chocolate, Soup next arrived as a not-so-subtle reminder that French Onion and Lobster Bisque are oft overlooked but timeless.
Offered more Pasta with upright Macaroni and seasonal Gnocchi, the latter utilizing Dan Barber’s shrunken Squash smartly to sweeten Goat Cheese, Mushrooms and Garlic, it was by request that “Le Steakburger” from Bardot’s Happy Hour was served next, its grind easily one of Sin City’s most luxurious and the flavor predictably rich but gently reined in by Watercress.
Debuting another concept next, France’s national dish presented tableside with hot Broth cooking thinly-sliced Beef amidst Root Vegetables and Bone Marrow, savories concluded with two can’t-miss plates, Bardot Brasserie’s Wellington unparalleled since the day it debuted and Chef Smith’s Heritage Chicken Roti yet another reminder that even simple plates can be exquisite when superior Ingredients are treated with care and respect.
Transitioned to sweet by cheffed-up “S’mores,” their eventual place on the menu not yet determined, Pineapple Tarte Tatin has given way to seasonal Apples that impress in their range of texture and temperature while Bardot’s photogenic French Cookie now tastes better than ever thanks to Gianduja and candied Oranges.
At this point finding almost every guest waiving their napkin like a white flag, but still willing to enjoy a few bites of Espresso Crème Brulee and Madelines Proust would likely admire, dinner came to an end with tableside flames, Bardot’s Baked Alaska a rare case where Passionfruit is not overwhelming thanks to roasted Pineapples, Banana Rum Cake and charred Meringue.
FIVE STARS: Having repeatedly challenged fellow gourmands to name a better Bistro, Brasserie or Café in North America than Bardot none have yet stood up to the task, and while some may believe that a Restaurant doing big volume cannot possibly compete with a place that seats fifty I’ll simply say I’ve done the legwork and this one does.
RECOMMENDED: King Crab & Endive Caesar, Foie Gras Rossini, Bay Scallop Raviolis, Pop Tarte Flambé, Le Steakburger, Beef Wellington, Heritage Chicken Roti, Gnocchi Parisienne, Macaroni & Mimolette Gratinee, Baked Alaska, Apple Tarte Tatin.
AVOID: Pot-au-feu, Foie Gras Butter and S’mores are as-yet off-menu.
TIP: Offer still stands, if anyone can name a French Bistro or Brasserie outperforming Bardot in North America (and back it up with evidence) I’ll fly there within 6 months to find out for myself.

Of this author’s recommendations on where to eat in Las Vegas none receives more e-mail or blog commentary than Hexx Kitchen + Bar, both negative and positive, yet from the much-maligned “Concession and Franchise Fee” to its occasionally high volume nothing has caused as much personal conflict as the recent Brunch menu change.
Up to now a five-year favorite for holidays and visitors, everything from Christmas to a 21st Birthday celebrated at Hexx or neighboring Alexxa’s Bar, it was as a party of eight including two children that guests sat down around 3:00pm on Sunday, service predictably excellent even as two nearby tables grew tiresome as a result of too many bottomless Mimosas.
Always a spectacle, the view and accessible offerings drawing all ages, races and origins to an expansive floorplan with a variety of seating options, it was once settled with Beverages ordered that Food began to arrive, Hexx’s generous Fresh Fruit Plate always welcome and its bite-size Banana Nut Muffins now larger as part of Pastry Chef Miranda Prince’s Pastry Basket alongside Cinnamon-Sugar Donuts, a Croissant and Alexxa’s Coffee Cake plus housemade Condiments.
Sad to see the Cinnaroll Waffle removed after five good years, a trend towards more healthful Fare clearly part of the new menu’s focus, Brunch marched on with Shellfish, Hexx’s Shrimp Ceviche a pleasant iteration brightened by Red Onion and Citrus while the $34.90 Seafood On Ice is a dubious value considering only the Shrimp were on-par with the quality offered elsewhere on-Strip.
Confused by management’s decision to replace the eponymous Benedict with a Pulled Pork version, though Spinach and speckled Hollandaise do a nice job softening an otherwise weighty dish, health-conscious diners will be pleased to see both Smoked Salmon and Quinoa Salads, the latter unfortunately served with overcooked Steak though the blend of Grains, Vegetables and Beans is quite good.
Having already tasted Chef Carlos Buscaglia’s Biscuits and Gravy as a special in February, the portion and Prime Beef Gravy justifying what at first seems to be excessive pricing, it was here that three “Vegetarian Friendly” items were tasted, both the Omelet and Torta appealing to Omnivores while Vegan Quiche with the texture of Wallpaper Paste lacks seasoning and ranks amongst the worst things tasted in a decade.
Continuing savory, Matt Piekarski’s Crispy Broccolini delicious in its simplicity while the returned Lobster Roll and all-new Prime Steak Sandwich are both well-crafted alongside crispy Fries, Pizza again shows well thanks to Carlos’ influence, the Breakfast version now replaced by Shrimp, Herbs and Sun-Dried Tomatoes.
Not about to skip Chef Prince’s Desserts, her Blueberry Corn Cobbler still one of Sin City’s very best bites, fans of Hexx Chocolate will be happy to know that both the new Bar and Mousse are excellent, albeit completely different from one another, while “Kahlua Milk Chocolate Pancakes” are bland below the top layer and an insulting replacement for the Carrot Cake Pancakes whose flavor is thankfully preserved by Alexxa’s Carrot Cake.
THREE STARS: Recently making a 13-item Brunch + 2-Dessert change one wonders what was “broke” in need of fixing, and although service as well as setting are still amongst the best in Las Vegas the “flaws” others have pointed out in terms of volume or price have now become less simple to dismiss.
RECOMMENDED: Fruit Plate, Shrimp Ceviche, Crispy Broccolini, Biscuits and Gravy, Veggie Omelet, Shrimp Pizza, Blueberry Corn Cobbler, Chocolate Mousse, Carrot Cake from Alexxa’s Bar Menu.
AVOID: Seafood On Ice, Vegan Quiche, Kahlua Milk Chocolate Pancakes.
TIP: Open 6:00am until 12:00am while Alexxa’s Bar greets guests from 9:00am to 6:00am. See website for specific offerings at each during those times, and look for new Brunch items at Hexx soon.

Born out of Taiwan, and since expanded globally by way of franchising, Tiger Sugar purports itself the globe’s “first drink Dessert,” and offering no apologies to Shakes, Slurpies or Hot Chocolate the brand officially opened at 5150 Spring Mountain Road in March 2020.
A global sensation in the era of #instagram, going so far as to imply the only way to enjoy Tiger Sugar is by first snapping a picture, the official title of Tiger Sugar’s signature concoction is Brown Sugar Pearl Milk, only three Ingredients purportedly utilized in each $5.50 cup.
Additionally offering alternatives built on Tea and other flavors, but strongly encouraging first timers to partake in the original, guests will watch each glass’ creation from a small waiting area, customer service pleasant and informative while music plays at low volume overhead.
Originally opened in 2017, and now featuring over one-hundred stores, Tiger Milk’s secret involves two sizes of Tapioca Pearls that are cooked on low heat in brown sugar syrup so they absorb more flavor, a topping of cold Organic Milk and Ice forming the striped appearance that is then shaken “15 times” to create a combination of smoke and sweetness that are each present in careful balance.
FOUR STARS: Less cloying than most Boba or Bubble Tea it seems Tiger Sugar is content with doing one thing and doing it well, the fact that every ingredient is weighed-to-order guaranteeing a consistent product that will need to draw repeat visitors to thrive in an off-Strip location amidst substantial competition.
RECOMMENDED: Brown Sugar Pearl Milk
AVOID: Everything else, apparently, as staff hard-sell the signature.
TIP: Open 11a-11p daily in the plaza containing New Asian BBQ, follow at @tigersugar.usa

Love My PB&J – Yeast Doughnut, Housemade Raspberry Jelly, Creamy Peanut Butter, Crumble
Although Roberto Armanino’s little shop has moved into a corporate-owned phase focused on expansion, there is no doubt Pink Box remains the best Doughnut shop in Las Vegas, a title it has held since opening and shows no sign of relinquishing with several new options and monthly specials joining their classics and novelties.
Open since late 2012 and improving since day one, it was arriving just after 11:00am on the first day of March that a baker’s dozen +1 was arranged, the store at 7531 West Lake Mead Boulevard busy as ever with several fresh items cooling on racks behind the counter.
Recently raising prices, though still fair and sweetened through cheaper-by-the-dozen discounts that apply regardless of whether one chooses OG Classics, Good Fellas, Show Offs or Fancy Pancy, it was along with family that Doughnuts were divided and tasted, a two year old in the midst immediately taken by Pink Box’s “Pooh” which thankfully seems less rich than prior while classics such as the Buttermilk Bar and two Old Fashioned rings remain reference-standard.
Continuing with filled creations, both John Lemon and Vegas Cream attesting to proper frying times as soft pockets surround Gel and Custard without becoming damp, it seems as though July’s “Doughnut of the Month” has decided to stick around thanks to its popularity, the round titled “Purple Rain” a lot like Pink Box’s original “Sweetie Pie” in terms of taste, though its consistency is magnified by crumbles placed on the surface.
Impressing as always with a “DoughCro,” widely separated layers with Chocolate Glaze and a Peanut Butter core riffing Reese’s, fans of Fruit will not be let down by hefty Apple Fritters or two additional Bismarks, “Baby Got Razz” nestling Housemade Raspberry Jam inside with Cheesecake Cream and “Love My PB&J” doubling down with a swirl of Creamy Peanut Butter.
Further delighted by the PinkBox “Cherry Bomb,” a Yeast Doughnut with Vanilla Frosting, Housemade Cherry Filling and Streusel, Chocolate was reserved to finish, first above and below a girl scout themed “Samoa” topped in Caramel and Toasted Coconut, then via the Golden Knight which is a messy textural masterpiece thanks to Chocolate Frosting, White Chocolate Chips and Peanut Butter Drizzle.
FIVE STARS: With over seven years serving Las Vegas, Pink Box Doughnuts never stops creating, and dollar for dollar both classics and novelties remain a bargain by comparison to other “best” Doughnuts across the Nation.
RECOMMEDED: Apple Fritter, Buttermilk Bar, The Goodman, Baby Got Razz, The Big Samoan, Cherry Bomb, Poomoji.
AVOID: N/A.
TIP: Still 24/7 with fresh batches coming out throughout the day and night, call early for large orders and special decorations

Basil-Basil Chow Fun with Chicken – Sweet Soy, Thai Basil, Bean Sprouts, Mushrooms
Lo Mein – Roast Pork, Celery, Mushrooms, Bean Sprouts, Red Pepper
Sticky Green Beans – Honey, Sweet Soy, Almonds, Crispy Garlic
Apple Pie Bao Buns – Baked Apples, Cinnamon Sugar
Begun as a counter-service concept inside T-Mobile Arena, Graffiti Bao has now been making noise in the Southwest since September, an opportunity to cater Marc Marrone’s Food finally presenting itself after the Chef axed his public relations team and joined ezCater.
Formerly the Tao Group corporate Executive Chef, but now partnering with Todd Lunger on a fast-casual Restaurant built for scalability, Chef Marrone brings a substantial amount of experience with “fusion” to an Asian-heavy where he hopes to avoid the mistakes of prior failed eateries by turning out high quality items at fair prices.
Well-liked by local Chefs and respected diners, as well as the public in general, Graffiti Bao’s Food “reflects the experiences from travels throughout Asia and the uniqueness of the Hawker Centres,” and for well-within the office’s usual catering budget the Restaurant on the corner of Buffalo and Warm Springs offers plenty to satisfy a diversity of ages, races and palates.
Delivered on-time by Marc’s significant other, all serviceware included and set up professionally, it was at 11:30am that staff began to trickle in, Crab Fried Rice an immediate hit with the largely Hispanic staff while spicy Dumplings and Lo Mein tossed with Pork and fresh Vegetables also went quickly.
Later seeing more experienced diners fall head-over-heels for Graffiti Bao’s Scallion Pancakes, easily the best tasted in Las Vegas to date, it was not long before Chow Fun and Green Beans slicked with Honey joined a list of items receiving high praise, all this before even biting into one of the shop’s eponymous Buns.
Both Vegan and allergy-friendly across several menu sections, Bao currently come in six varieties, Kung Pao Chicken probably the most “authentic” and vibrant with Chili Sauce while the In-N-Out-style Royale with Cheese and Apple Pie are decidedly “American” but absolutely delightful in terms of the Bun’s fluffiness surrounding flavorful contents.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone, Graffiti Bao sets a very high standard in terms of customer service, while all eight items were nicely presented, displaying “Fusion” without being compromised and appealing to everyone from Indian to Asian to Hispanic to Vietnamese at a range of income levels and travel experiences.
RECOMMENDED: Scallion Pancakes, Royale with Cheese Bao Buns, Basil-Basil Chow Fun with Chicken, Sticky Green Beans.
AVOID: N/A.
TIP: Southwest location is open: Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 9:30pm and Sunday from 11:00am to 9:00pm. Follow @GraffitiBao for specials.

Sometimes one must abandon the rarified air of Mott 32 and Jasmine at The Bellagio, the celebration of a good friend’s birthday taking some sixty-five guests to Orchids Garden on the corner of Sahara and Lindell.
A neon beacon for nearly two decades, and still one of Las Vegas’ few locations for all-day Dim Sum, it was just prior to 6:30pm that three guests entered the space prior to several others, a total of seven tables each celebrating as silver carts navigated the premises.
Clean in terms of décor and populated by a largely Asian clientele, both good signs as are the well-maintained Fish tank and restrooms, it was less than five minutes after taking a seat that Water arrived and Tea was offered, the former kept filled while staff also did a good job of making certain that Tea Pots were topped-off regularly.
Sticking to Dim Sum for the evening, a truncated version of the daytime collection offered but unfortunately already sold out of several selections, it was as friends were still trickling in that Dinner began with Shrimp, both frilly Balls made with sliced Wontons and more traditional versions outperforming tepid Har Gow with thick Skin.
Seated with a mixed group, most ordering with minimal knowledge and total disregard for price, Chow Mein proved almost flavorless save for Salt just as it did during a 2018 visit, Orchids Garden’s pan-fried Rice Noodles in X.O. Sauce a far better taste and value for those who can handle a little bit of spice.
Difficult to say whether Orchids Garden uses previously frozen Dim Sum or makes the items fresh on-site, likely a combination of both, Shiu Mai suffers from a mushy consistency without much flavor while Shell-on Shrimp breaded and fried capitalize on the Carapace in terms of texture as well as taste.
Fair-to-middling for Calamari and Chicken Wings, both “safe” for mixed crowds, Pork Spareribs are fairly dreadful thanks to un-rendered Fat while Pork Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf and traditional Cantonese Buns are much better choices.
Watching others Ignore advice to skip the Duck, bone-in and barely warm beneath flaccid Skin, Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce proved better than many others thanks to snappy stalks while the absence of Egg Tarts (Dan Tat) for the second time made Dessert a pick ‘em between Custard Buns and two different types of Sesame Balls.
TWO STARS: While it may indeed be true that Las Vegas lacks world-class Dim Sum Off-Strip, the debut of New Asian BBQ on Spring Mountain (in addition to Chang’s or KJ) has relegated Orchids Garden to a very specific status of “only when absolutely necessary.”
RECOMMENDED: Fried Shrimp with Shell, Pork Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, X.O. Pan Fried Rice Noodle, Red Bean Sesame Ball.
AVOID: Roast Duck, Pork Spare Ribs, Chow Mein, Har Gow.
TIP: 10:30a-10:30p daily, though visiting at night runs the risk of menu items being sold out.

From the moment Big Rig Jig was placed in the former Fergusons Motel courtyard locals wondered what was coming, the answer now fully visible with a Coffee Shop, green space, local artisans and two Restaurants from Chef Dan Krohmer – Hatsumi and La Monjá Cantina.
Known best for Other Mama, a west side Restaurant that has been making it cool to dine “Off Strip” for nearly five years, La Monjá (Spanish for “the nun”) sees the recently named JBF-Award semifinalist take on Baja-style Mexican Food, construction on Fremont Street out front apparently doing little to curb the excitement for al fresco drinking and dining in February.
Open since September of 2019, and adding Brunch on February 15th, it is immediately right on entering the 1940s complex that guests will notice La Monjá, its patio already half-filled at 11:00am while the interior feels nearly as breezy thanks to floor-to-celing windows, stained glass and a fully visible kitchen.
Polished without feeling disingenuous, wooden tables or booths available for those who’d rather not belly-up to La Monjá’s well-stocked Bar, it is surrounded by murals and televisions showing sports that upbeat music plays mid-volume, loud enough to drown the din but never so much as to interrupt conversation.
Raised in a small American mining town, but finding a passion for Sushi in the mid-teens with subsequent training ranging from Northern California all the way to Japan, Krohmer’s decision to open a Mexican Restaurant predictably comes with plenty of international influences, the use of All Spice and Star Anise to brighten boozy Café de Olla but one, while those seeking something a bit more in-your-face will find a lot to like about the Spicy Margarita.
Just week two for Brunch, a menu expansion already in the works, it was after being regrettably informed that the $12 Bananachata was unavailable that an order was placed, complimentary housemade Tortilla bridging a small gap prior to the arrival of Seafood Ceviche that those familiar with Chef Krohmer’s cooking will find predictably outstanding.
Equally skilled with subtlety as bold flavors, Corn Pancakes beneath fragrant Whipped Cream a textural masterpiece thanks to fresh Kernels plus candied Pepitas, another dish that impresses with nuance is La Monjá’s Enfrijoladas, the fresh Cheese at first felt a bit *too* funky eventually melding well to roast Chicken and Black Beans.
Sold on the Milanesa Torta by an attentive waitress, $15 for a pounded and fried Chop on good Bread with vibrant accoutrements and a Salad arguably one of DTLV’s best deals, fans of Posole should also take notice as Krohmer’s goes a step beyond cheaper bowls by offering plenty of good Pork bathed in brick-red Broth where Nixtamalized Corn adds a layer of texture beyond traditional Hominy.
Attentive to downtown’s diverse crowd, Gluten free and Vegan options both available, suffice it to say that most carnivores will not turn their nose up at Cauliflower “Steak” nor a convincing Tofu Scramble, the citrusy Fingerling Potatoes another pleasant surprise on a plate completed by Greens from Desert Bloom Eco Farm.
Informed that Tres Leches Topping had not set-up correctly, and as such deprived of La Monjá’s only Brunch Dessert, the meal instead ended with Chia that one guest raised in a Mexican household compared to Arroz con Leche, but less filling and “much better” as a result of the added textures.
FOUR STARS: Fronting Fergusons Downtown’s rapid revival, La Monjá Cantina sees Chef Dan Krohmer take on contemporary Mexican cuisine with bright ingredients and bold flavors that prove capable of impressing Millenials as well as Mexicans who grew up on it. Still growing the Brunch menu, but already bustling on the second Sunday, a dinner visit is already planned with high expectations.
AVOID: Aside from the usual “menu items should be available” complaint regarding La Monjá’s Bananachata, fans of sweeter Breakfast items will want to look elsewhere for now.
TIP: Open from 5:00pm until 10:00pm daily, happy hour from 5:00pm to 7:00pm offers $1 Oysters, $5 Chicharrones, $5 Classic Margaritas and more. Brunch is served 10:00am to 3:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Always happy to #supportlocal with an office favorite, CRAFTkitchen once again catered lunch on Thursday, Tami and Jaret Blinn predictably arriving early with all the necessary items and this time presenting attendees with “Breakfast for Lunch.”
Previously taking on Mexican and Asian themes, but this time squarely in the Henderson hot-spot’s wheelhouse, it was largely from CRAFTkitchen’s diverse menu that nine items were presented, savories starting with crispy Tortilla Chips topped in housemade Carnitas plus Cheese while two-bite Avocado Toasts were a big hit beneath Seeds and Greens.
Always well-portioned and fair-priced, a group of twenty-five getting their fill with plenty of leftovers packed to-go, it was alongside these that guests enjoyed individually-sized Quiche plus the Fried Chicken that normally comes with CRAFTkitchen’s miniature Waffles, though not to be forgotten were Funfetti Pancakes that remained fluffy despite thirty minutes transport.
Going all-in on Dessert, four flavors of full-size Kouign Amann tempting fans and first-timers alike, the same Icing served alongside Pancakes found itself thicker at the center of “Birthday” Butter Pastries while Ube with Toasted Coconut, Salty Caramel and Chocolate Ganache were all equally delicious.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone CRAFTkitchen has always gone the extra mile to assure off-site dining is every bit as delicious as inside the Restaurant on South Eastern, and although it is fun to get creative sometimes this Breakfast-for-Lunch sampling was a generous reminder of what makes Jaret and Tami’s place great to begin with.
RECOMMENDED: Chilaquiles with Pork Carnitas, Birthday Cake Pancakes, Ube Kouign Amann, Sea Salt Caramel Kouign Amann
AVOID: N/A.
TIP: See the website for sample catering items or contact the Restaurant directly with a budget and let them do what they do best.

Texas Twinkie – Brisket-stuffed Bacon-wrapped Jalapeno with Cream Cheese
Housemade Banana Pudding
Heath Bar Bread Pudding, Crème Anglaise
Now open from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily at Suite 110 of 6115 South Fort Apache Road, and Sin City’s best place for Barbecue ever since January 2016, it was ten minutes prior to lunch that the smell of Big B’s Texas BBQ began to drift from the conference room, staff quick to arrive for what was once again an overabundance of smoked Meat, housemade Desserts and Sides.
Already an office favorite, and even more convenient now that owners Brian Buechner and Natalia Badzjo have taken over the former Andre’s Bistro & Bar, guests this Wednesday found familiar favorites hot and fresh, the inclusion of all necessary plates, utensils and serviceware a given just as it has always been.
Texas through and through, wood driven up from the Lone Star State just one reason why Big B’s Brisket and Turkey outpace growing competition, there was really no surprise when Macaroni and Cheese as well as Hot Links were quickly depleted, and with the addition of Sausage speckled by Jalapeno and Cheddar those craving extra spice also got their fix.
Real-deal ‘cue at a fair price, additional Meat included Pulled Pork plus an in-the-works special, “Texas Twinkies” placing pitmaster Buechner’s Brisket alongside Cream Cheese in a Bacon-wrapped Jalapeno that is delicious and not nearly so spicy as it sounds.
Upping the ante with former Marché Bacchus Chef Amanda Hamilton at location #2, the opportunity to bring Big B’s Texas BBQ across town not left to chance by a team who has always adhered to high standards, Dessert followed Sin City’s best Baked Beans plus Creamed Corn, the better between Banana Pudding and recently-debuted Bread Pudding such a tough call that both should be tasted, though not at the risk of skipping Big B’s Cornbread Muffins.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone it was a disastrous lunch from Famous Dave’s that got the #supportlocal idea going in May of 2018, Big B’s Texas BBQ immediately stepping up and becoming a go-to both then and now with the experience never less than exemplary.
RECOMMENDED: Fatty Brisket, Hot Links, Smoked Turkey, Mac & Cheese, BBQ Beans, Cream Corn, Cornbread, Bread Pudding, Banana Pudding.
AVOID: N/A – though Texas Twinkies are still a work-in-progress and may not be available.
TIP: Available via Yelp! Online Ordering, GrubHub, EZCater or calling the Restaurant directly the staff at Big B’s makes catering easy and efficient in addition to offering great value on the dollar.

Mango Budino – Dulce de Leche, Coconut Streusel, Granulated Sugar
Now located adjacent Eataly for over a year, Best Friend by Roy Choi remains a modest success for both Park MGM and the Chef from Los Angeles, though neon suggesting “Roy Choy Is My Best Friend” has recently been joined by Happy Hour Specials and All You Can Eat Mondays.
Entered via Bodega, a popular location for drinks with the hostess stand hidden in back, it is passing through translucent red curtains that guests enter a space filled with hanging plants and overly-loud Hip Hop, Dr. Dre and Biggie replaced later by a DJ spinning more modern tracks.
Still decorated with illuminated street scenes, but having apparently decided to abandon more suitable volume since January of last year, it was moments after seating that a waitress in Adidas appeared with menus, several changes noted including the elimination of some funky plates and clever nomenclature in favor of “Vegas Sh*t” such as Fried Chicken.
Dubbed a “Korean BBQ joint,” and now more closely resembling such in terms of offerings, it was after being informed that one of Best Friend’s Frozen Drinks was unavailable that “Frosé” was requested, its sweetness not far from a 7-Eleven Slurpee but the cost far more substantial.
A fast-paced meal, though service seemed unconcerned with empty Water glasses and languishing empty plates, it was no more than ten minutes after taking a bite of Best Friend’s complimentary Hawaiian Roll that five plates arrived in succession, fragrant Dumplings pleasant but $2.50 a bite while “Spicy Pork” was a better value but not even “hot” to a Caucasian guy from the Midwest.
Harboring mixed feelings on Roy Choy’s French Fries with Ramen Dust, hiked from $5 to $10 in the last 13-months, diners will definitely find fire in Sambal Mayo while springy Rice Cake bathed in a Stew of Short Ribs, Eggs and Cheese impress in terms of complexity with a good balance of Jalapeños and richness.
Also ordering Street Corn for the lady, enjoyable despite its lack of seasonality, Desserts remain mostly unchanged since opening, the Cheesecake a fun interpretation while switching from Cinnamon to Caramel Ice Cream makes Pastry Chef Angibeau Philippe’s Date Cake a bit better, though too much Coconut has unfortunately compromised the previously fantastic Mango Budino.
THREE STARS: It was with skepticism that Best Friend was originally approached, but unlike many “ethnic” Restaurants on-Strip Roy Choi’s first foray into Las Vegas pulled off “fusion” with polish, and now past the one-year mark Food remains good, though more pricey and “common,” while service has unfortunately taken a step back.
RECOMMENDED: Spicy Rice Cake, Date Cake.
AVOID: Spicy Pork Belly & Shoulder, Frosé.

Having twice visited Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro for Brunch, once several years prior to calling Las Vegas home, it was as a party of five that another enjoyable afternoon was spent on the Restaurant’s outdoor patio with sun shining bright and a dog-in-tow.
Toqued by Chef JL Carrera, and largely unchanged across the past ten years, it was after greetings from a born-and-raised Las Vegan that choices were debated, a sloppy Latte presented to one guest while Tanzania Peaberry Coffee in a French Press lived up to its $8 tab in terms of taste.
Now closed in Hollywood, but still doing well in Sin City despite no less than three Celebrity Steakhouses within the Venetian-Palazzo complex, it was while guests conversed that the first of three courses arrived, Housemade Housemade Granola & Greek Yogurt simple but well-portioned while a side of Potatoes with Peppers and Onions plus Morels’ Avocado Toast each went the extra mile to be better than what guests will find elsewhere.
Somewhat lackluster in terms of $22 Chicken & Waffles, the Tenders a bit dry while their support is plain compared to what Yardbird, HeXX or The Stove are serving, far better value is found in an $18 Croque or $14 Crepe, each with plenty of good Ham plus Gruyère Cheese and the former adding further with a fried Egg atop Sauce Mornay.
Well-known for their Fromagerie, a blend of Cheeses making “Almost Famous Mac & Cheese” a Brunch and Dinner *must,* it is thanks to aged Comté that Morels’ “Farm Fresh Egg Veggie Omelet” succeeds while Crispy Organic Bacon and Fish & Chips featuring Sole also stand out.
Far quieter than the patio at Mon Ami Gabi, and refined without feeling stuffy, Dessert arrived along with a Double Espresso on Ice, the “Banana & Strawberry Crepes” better labeled than during 2018’s Dinner and thus creating appropriate expectations even if it isn’t as delicious as Morels’ housemade Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches or better-than-Bouchon Stuffed French Toast.
FOUR STARS: Easily overlooked on a property with four Steakhouses and a French Bistro boasting Thomas Keller’s name, Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro still has a lot of things going for it besides the Strip view, and for those seeking Breakfast or Brunch on-Strip without a crowd this may just qualify as a secret hidden in plain view.
RECOMMENDED: Country Potatoes, Croque Madame, Ham & Gruyere Crepe, Almost Famous Mac & Cheese, Almost Famous Mac & Cheese, Banana & Mascarpone Stuffed French Toast.
AVOID: Cornflake Crusted Chicken & Waffles.
TIP: Open 8am daily and pet-friendly on the patio. Keep eyes tuned to https://www.palazzo.com/restaurants/morels-steakhouse-bistro.html for events such as “Meet the Wine Maker.”

Serving as the flagship of John Arena and Sam Facchini’s family of pizzerias since November of 2012, and featuring an expansive footprint including Lulu’s Bread & Breakfast, it was Valentine’s Day around 6:00pm that seven guests sat down at Metro Pizza on Sky Pointe for some holiday love from the hands of Pizzaiolo Chris Decker.
Dubbed “America’s Neighborhood Pizzeria” since the early eighties, though past and present Metro Pizza is so much more, it was at the Sky Pointe location’s largest table that guests were sat promptly, service even top notch during one of the Pizzeria’s busiest days.
Sticking to favorites on this visit, but prompted to stop in for the holiday Pie first made by former GM Brian Fountain in 1995, suffice it to say everything was excellent, and if imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then John, Brian and Chris should have felt pretty proud about all the Heart-shaped Pizzas featured on Social Media in Las Vegas that week.
FIVE STARS: Serving Las Vegas for 38+ years and continuously evolving the concept while slowly growing the brand it would be difficult to say anyone has contributed more to Sin City’s love of Pizza than John Arena, and although any brand featuring more than one space may suffer from inconsistency Metro sets a high standard by rewarding their old customer base with predictable greatness while Chris Decker’s creativity looks towards a new era and without ever neglecting the basics – the same synopsis as always since it warrants repeating.
RECOMMENDED: Anything offered as a special from @everythingbutanchovies Social Media feed is worth asking about. So is the 86th Street Square Pie. And, really, any of the Pizzas.
AVOID: N/A.

Pepperoni Pizza – Mozzarella, Naked City Red Sauce, Cup n’ Char Pepperoni
Guinea Pie – White Garlic Sauce, Spinach, Grandma’s Meatballs, Mozzarella Cheese, Ricotta Cheese
Zeppole – Powdered Sugar, Chocolate Sauce
Although there are 60+ PT’s Tavern locations in Nevada only one welcomes children, and that same location at 10940 South Eastern Avenue also plays host to Christopher and Michael Palmeri’s Naked City Pizza Shop.
A joint venture now in its second year, and the brother’s second foray into Henderson after finding success across multiple locations in Las Vegas since 2009, it was in September 2019 that a wall was installed to eliminate smoke and allow for family-friendly dining, though no children were present on Tuesday the 11th around 6:00pm.
Better lit than the tavern next door, and now designated “Bills Country” by the brothers from Buffalo, it was as a party of ten that guests were seated near televisions showing Golden Knights hockey, service once again better than average in terms of refilling drinks and describing a bevy of choices.
Expanding the menu recently, several Naked City classics complimented by location-specific specials, it was with two boards of Antipasti that things got started, the Charcuterie mostly safe while items like housemade Pickles and Jam as well as Mortadella-stuffed Cherry Peppers showed Christopher’s typical willingness to go the extra mile.
A well-polished space, with play-by-play on the speakers rather than lousy music, it was on the heels of tender Eggplant Meatballs with vibrant Sauce that two “Flatbread” arrived, these off-menu specials each crisper and lighter than Naked City’s usual Pie and particularly noteworthy for the one topped in Calabrian Sausage plus imported Mozzarella di Bufala.
Comfortable for conversation without shouting, the PT’s half louder but entirely ignorable save for when guests enter or exit shared doors, fans of Buffalo Wings might guess that natives make them right while hand-cut French Fries are debatably Sin City’s best.
Not forgetting Pizzas, the famous Guinea and Back Home Pies both offered in addition to the ability to build one’s own, it was from two “1/2 Sheets” that guests were over-sated, but not before finishing a whole bowl of tender Gemelli Pasta tossed with Bacon, Parmesan, Cream, Peas and Spinach.
Finishing with two big bags of Zeppole, the best yet tasted in Vegas whether coated in Powdered Sugar or plain, it seems as though Naked City’s Fudge has recently gotten an upgrade which makes it tough to stop dipping before every bit of the sizable portion is gone.
FOUR AND A HALF STARS: Something of a hidden secret, and definitely a place that could benefit from a bit of marketing, Naked City Pizza Shop inside the PT’s on Eastern earns high marks for not only slinging good Pizza and Bar Food, but welcoming the whole family with great service and plenty of televisions to watch the game.
AVOID: N/A, though do pay attention to online menus as each Naked City location is a little different.
TIP: 11a-10p Sunday through Thursday and until Midnight Friday and Saturday, if the Golden Knights are playing expect them with full sound, and same for the Buffalo Bills.

Recently renovated, a good 10-years shaved off the venerable Restaurant Row destination, Delmonico has already withstood the test of time, but with mounting competition within the Venetian-Palazzo complex and across Las Vegas as whole the new look may just guarantee Emeril’s Steakhouse another 20+ years.
Naming a new Chef de Cuisine as part of the renovation, Chef Daniel Tederous departing Hawaii to fill a role vacated by Ronnie Rainwater who moves up to Lagasse’s local Culinary Director, it was as a group of six that seating was offered at Delmonico’s new Chef’s table, a full view of the kitchen with seclusion from a bustling main room making the experience even more memorable.
Again offered as a family-style tasting, this time with Sommelier-suggested Wines and music from Dean Martin playing softly, it was beginning with a sweet Rum Cocktail that snacks were presented, Delmonico’s iconic Truffle and Parmesan Potato Chips crisp and oilless while spicy Chicken Skins riffed on Nashville’s best known dish with precision.
Updating the menu seasonally, and additionally giving Chef Tederous a chance to showcase his skills, Appetizers found themselves paired to semi-sweet Demi-Sec, the Arugula Salad with Duck Liver shaved tableside a beautiful mélange while Steak Tartare and Chef Rainwater’s Wilted Spinach with Poached Eggs and Praline Bacon each deserve mention alongside Las Vegas’ best versions.
Never offered Popovers, possibly a good thing considering the bounty upcoming, course two turned to Burgundy for a fuller-bodied Chardonnay, its buttery quality a smart match for dainty Frog Legs and housemade Pasta but even better to compliment off-menu Escargot “Rockefeller” Crostini.
Specifically requesting more Foie Gras, a seared slice perched atop crispy Baklava and a smear of pureed Squash, the meal could have easily ended here with all guests happy, but instead a glass of 2016 Chateau Capbern Saint-Estephe announced Entrees and Sides surrounding Delmonico’s Dry-Aged Creekstone Farms Prime Bone-In Ribeye cooked Medium Rare.
Some old and some new for this course, the Creamed Corn Granitee mandatory for anyone who doesn’t mind a little heat, suffice it to say that there may be no more delicious yet intriguing dish on-Strip than Delmonico’s Rabbit Porchetta, and for those skipping Red Meat the recently-updated Kurobuta Pork with Cracklings is also exquisite.
Not taking any shortcuts with Side Dishes, both Broccoli Gratin and Charred Brussels Sprouts making Crucifers something guests will crave, Potato Croquettes should happily replace a Baked Spud for most while another trick from Delmonico’s Pasta maker comes in the form of Crest de Galle topped with melted Fontina and crispy Pancetta.
Tantalizing with textures to this point, and continuing as such with Dessert, not a word needs to be said about Emeril’s incomparable Banana Cream Pie besides “order it,” while the Mousse Cake and Pecan Pie are each also enjoyable – though that word falls short in describing both Bundt Cake adrift in Jasmine Tea Foam as well as a new contender for Sin City’s most fragrant and moist Carrot Cake.
FIVE STARS: Never lacking in terms of service, Delmonico Steakhouse completes its updated look with a new Chef and several seasonal additions to compliment all the classics guests have loved for decades, while Chef Rainwater’s promotion to Culinary Director puts Emeril’s local outlets in good hands for years to come.
AVOID: The Donut Bar is fun, and sharable, but does not compare well to any of the plated Desserts.
TIP: Open for lunch, Delmonico recently began offering “All you can enjoy” Tableside Housemade Pasta with at least three choices available daily for just $25 per diner, a great option for busy convention-goers looking for a quick lunch (best finished with Banana Cream Pie or Carrot Cake.)

One of living in Las Vegas’ greatest perks is a steady stream of visiting friends & family, so with cousins escaping a dreary Ohio winter Hexx Kitchen + Bar seemed a perfect place to enjoy Brunch al fresco while watching The Bellagio Fountains.
Rapidly approaching five years since replacing Sugar Factory, and now two years post-separating into HEXX Kitchen + Bar with Alexxa’s Bar next door, it was on the sunlit patio that guests were seated at 11:00am, a record-setting day with every seat filled as Manager Ari Stotland led an efficient and friendly service team.
A “peak-Vegas” spectacle, conventioneers and drunken bachelorettes each accounted for, it was with temperatures hovering around 60ᵒF that guests perused menus, Coffee and Alexxa’s Sangria soon arriving and quickly followed by familiar favorites including a Cinnaroll Waffle, Granola and HEXX’s generous Fruit Plate.
Adding Pastry Chef Miranda Prince’s Coffee Cake as an Appetizer, the “Dessert” from Alexxa equally suited to be a starter despite Vanilla Glaze and salty Hazelnut Butter for dipping, those seeking something savory will be happy to know that a late-February menu change promises housemade Biscuits and Sirloin Gravy, which offered as a special on this day certainly proved an upgrade on the usual.
Continuing savory, both Parmesan Potatoes and Matt Piekarski’s Crispy Broccolini delicious in their simplicity, fans of Chilaquiles likely already know HEXX serves the best on-Strip while Chicken & Waffles are reliable, much like a Breakfast Pizza who’s Crust has improved substantially under the watch of Chef Carlos Buscaglia.
Assuming five “Desserts” appropriate for five guests, though perhaps not when considering what had already transpired, suffice it to say that both Chef Prince’s Blueberry Corn Cobbler and the Carrot Cake Pancakes are “must order” dishes, while Alexxa’s Amaretti Cookies with Olive Oil Ice Cream and Hexx’s Ginger Pear Panna Cotta are refined yet complex and light enough for guests with less prodigious appetites.
FIVE STARS: Let’s face it, when a Restaurant occupies real estate across from The Bellagio Fountains they really don’t need to try *that* hard, yet from the moment HEXX Kitchen + Bar debuted inside Paris Las Vegas a new standard for 24/7 dining was born.
AVOID: As usual the Food from Chefs Carlos and Miranda was great while service adheres to high standards, but one certainly hopes the Carrot Cake Pancakes’ pending 86 is only a rumor.
TIP: Open 6:00am until 12:00am while Alexxa’s Bar greets guests from 9:00am to 6:00am. See website for specific offerings at each during those times, and look for new Brunch items at Hexx soon.

Although Shiraz has been slow to find its audience inside the old Habib’s space there is no doubt Raja Abdul Majid and Chef Jainine Jaffer are capable of feeding a crowd, and on Wednesday the Restaurant at 2575 South Decatur Boulevard once again came through with a diversity of options to please a wide range of palates.
Always on time and never neglecting the essentials, everything from plates and utensils to temperature-appropriate Cuisine making it easy to #supportlocal instead of a chain, this spread focused on the Indian side of Shiraz’s menu after starting with Hummus and a Salad tossed with tangy Vinaigrette plus Beef Kebabs predictably gone fast.
Additionally seeing Naan with a choice of Chutney popular, it was amongst staff who prefer spice that Rogan Josh slowly disappeared, Rice and two-types of Chicken including classic Masala soon to follow.
Happy to see Aloo Matar with plenty of fragrant Cauliflower, Vegetarians also got their fill of Spinach with Cheese, while attendees seeking a sweet ending faced a tough decision between classic Jalebi and Halwa made from Lentils.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone the professionalism of Shiraz’s program is everything one might hope for, $15 per diner yielding enough Food to feed at least twice as many guests with everything delivered temperature appropriate and delicious as ever.
TIP: Contact Shiraz via online form, Telephone (702) 870-0860 or Email info@shirazrestaurant.com for Catering inquires or checkout ezcater.com to do it on your own.

Born in Burbank, and brought to Las Vegas Boulevard by the folks behind Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro, it was August of 2019 that the Strip finally started brewing once again, and although Trustworthy Brewing Company’s location in Palazzo’s Grand Canal Shoppes will always be challenging the Food from Chef Lloyd Bansil is both accessible and delicious while service exudes friendly professionalism.
Now a part of the Strip’s dining scene for six months, and finally beginning to gain traction during a busy Conference season, Trustworthy Brewing Co. occupies a sizable footprint capable of seating more than four hundred guests, and capable of producing some 1150 gallons of Beer from tanks inside a specially-designed room it should go without saying that Lager-heads as well as IPA drinkers are certain to find something they will enjoy.
Sparring no expense in the build-out, a large bar surrounded by tables, booths, event space and a PDR, it was after greetings from a bubbly hostess that five guests were seated, televisions showing sports while music played low-volume overhead.
Built with “Fun” as a core-value, several styles of Beer with quirky names poured throughout a space featuring Skee Ball, it was alongside Cocktails and $15 flights that Appetizers arrived, a new Salad featuring Arugula, tart Apples, Candied Walnuts and Blue Cheese touching all parts of the palate while generously-filled Wontons and Soy-Glazed Ribs each saw smoked Pork complimented by something sweet.
Continuing with Deviled Eggs that kindly limit Mustard and instead focus on Herbs plus crispy peppered Bacon, Chef Bansil’s Prime Beef Short Rib adheres to the same high standards as both the bone-in Pork versions, Flesh tender and Fat beautifully rendered alongside a trio of housemade Sauces that can easily be skipped thanks to the quality Beef and Garlic-Herb Rub.
Happy to see Brussels Sprouts less lemony than prior, snappy Broccolini with a bit of heat also available for those seeking a healthy side dish, fans of Cornbread will be happy to know Trustworthy’s is still one of Las Vegas’ best versions while Fish & Chips built around Beer Battered Haddock would be benefitted by placing the Fries alongside so that they don’t get soggy.
Built to be an eye-catcher, bright blues and reds coating walls throughout the continuous main room, two new items are delivered on Buns, the “Black & Blue Burger” cooked-to-temperature beneath Pepper-Crusted Bacon, Blue Cheese and Sauteed Mushrooms while Trustworthy’s spin on Spicy Chicken derives most of its flavor from the juicy marinated Bird and piquant Garlic.
More than happy to devour two types of Pork Rinds with the Sandwiches, a slight edge given to the Salt & Vinegar Chicharrónes, Dessert has seen a sharable skillet Brownie recently added, and although good it is no competition for Banana Pudding with a brûléed Marshmallow top as one of the Venetian-Palazzo’s best ways to end a meal.
FOUR STARS: While it is true that Trustworthy Brewing Company isn’t Las Vegas Boulevard’s first Brewery, it is the only current one, and although more televisions to watch sports would be nice there is already a lot to love about the space, most notably the attentive service and some reference standard items, not to mention Craft Beer flights that offer great value on the dollar.
AVOID: The Skillet Brownie feels like an obligatory “Chocolate Dessert” and placing Fries beneath the Fish leaves these “Chips” anything but crispy.
TIP: Open daily from 11am until 11pm on the second floor of Palazzo, inside the Grand Canal Shoppes. Happy Hour Drink deals from 3pm to 6pm and 9pm to close, with half-off select Appetizers 3pm to 6pm.

In Memoriam. Intentionally inauthentic, but simultaneously embracing flavors and techniques that always tried to please guests from a variety of backgrounds, no matter what Virgin brings to Las Vegas Pink Taco and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be missed.
